Actually, I think half of the WWE Universe will forget they even happened.

That's a great point...that they were never supposed to be apocalyptic/ominous in the first place and just a parody/aping of videos like Taker-in-Jacob's-cabin. And WWE is so good at them and they were so straight-faced... If that's what the intent was all along, that there WAS no meaning, that's pretty amazing too.

Yup, going from likely being released to having sold-out merchandise and a loyal fanbase is totally undeserving of a push. Having crowds chant for him and popping is totally undeserving as well.

We keep on talking about people not doing enough, about same ol' same ol'. The WWE themselves talk about it too, about how young talent need to get noticed. Ryder did that, and did it over the course of the year. Dude deserves props.

You know, kudos to Ryder for finding a way to save his job and all, but I can see Cerb's point. Is the IWC still gonna be in love with Zack a year from now with WWWYKI and Broskis? I can't see it. Hopefully Ryder is more than goofy hair and catchphrases and will do something compelling, but I haven't seen it so far.

A lot of times we see what some wrestlers do with what they're given. Cody Rhodes, for example, has ran with what he was given and excelled. Dolph Ziggler has taken what he's been given and ran with it. he gave a promo tonight that was pretty damn good, I may add. Wade Barrett was given leadership of the Nexus, and that went well until the wheels came off due to injuries/Creative.

In Ryder's case, he was given nothing at all. He broke the paradigm and obtained success on his own. You're right; he needs to do something more eventually. But the key is; Creative needs to give him something. As of now everything he has is done by himself.

I want Kane to kidnap Ryder and brainwash into being an Evil Cena Doppelganger, like Kevin Sullivan did to Mike Davis in Florida.

Not the worst RAW ever! Kane trying to drag Ryder to hell was incredible... I am just amazed that an OOoooOoh SUPERNATURAL spot like that still works in 2012.

-

The first time I saw Punk and Ziggler wrestle I was really really impressed. This time around it seemed they (especially Ziggler) were working too stiff and two of the spots looked like Punk could have easily gotten legit injured. In a parallel universe Punk is out due to a fractured scapula from that botched move on the apron and in another parallel universe he's dead from his neck snapping on the ropes. So, it was kind of disappointing to me and I hope their match at RR has the same magic as their first encounter.

-

Bryan-Rhodes was stupid and did absolutely nothing for either of them.

-

I much rather see Santino on my TV screen than Barrett... when Wade is going about his business my eyes usually glaze over until he's about to do his finisher... even when he's up against Orton who's been entertaining to me these days.
"Barot Garage" Oh Santino, you make me lol.

-

NOW FOR YOUR DIVA'S CORNER FASHION TAG
BROUGHT TO YOU BY NUCLEAR FALLOUT! DEODORANT FOR MEN
I didn't like the Bella's outfits... they were hot in theory but in practice they were like ill-contouring trash bags.
As usual Kelly Kelly's butt looked as if crafted by Zeus and Odin high-fiving and Eve's booty move was awkward to watch.

The whole Jericho thing was (ok, only so far!) a colossal waste of time, and something I would generally advice against: A joke than even if good is at the expense of the audience. I hope they have a good place to go with this... Like Punk and Jericho trying to out-mindgame each other?? I hope that's where this is going idk.

THAT'S ALL

The opening Cena promo was interminable. Way to suck out all of the enthusiasm I had built up for the first RAW of 2012.

Daniel Bryan's slow burn heel turn is great to watch. I just hope that he doesn't end up as a comedy character once he loses the title. His overblown celebrations were borderline Santino level.

Don't "WHAT" Wade Barrett, because he will just talk over them. Good stuff.

Dolph Ziggler cut a main event level promo before his main event level match with Punk. Was that a "Vickie's Sexy" chant during that match too?

The Divas match was a train wreck, once again. I swear some of these ladies have the unique ability to regress their wrestling skills over time. Bowling shoe ugly, as JR would say.

Jericho showed why he is one of the greatest heels. I ran the whole gamut of emotions during that return. Excitement. Amusement. Confusion (as in why is each Jericho return worse than the last one?). And then realisation that I and millions of others had been absolutely trolled by a master. It was a thing of beauty.

The main event was begging for a Brodus Clay run in. Instead we got Kane, who's already starting to get old.

I think if you want to see why Ryder deserves his push, look at his facial reactions during that main event from being in the ankle lock to Kane almost dragging him to hell to the fiery explosion. He sold the hell out of all that while it did look a bit cartoony, he helped solidified that entire feud. And he will continue to be awesome as the best friend that stands by the hero til he gets killed or chickens out and then gets killed. Either way the destruction of Ryder is going to be or should be a huge plot point for the rest of the year. Cena and Ryder at the end reminded me of Brody and Hooper in Jaws after the shark
blows up.

Don't like Punk losing again, not stoked at all with Dolph. Did love Punk dropping the bitch which unsurprising got a pop. PG is about dead and I do think if that kid, R-Truth handed the mic to uttered a swear word, we would be officially done with it. I thought for sure, after Happy New Year was Mother Fucker. At least the kid was smart enough not to do it or was a plant. I still think the water bottle is weak and a steel chair would be more devastating. The Divas match was your typical T&A match of the faces using their As while the heels used their Ts to win.

Jericho. Man, Jericho. Either this is the most mind fucked return of all time with the videos, the hogging of the spotlight and the weird smile he had on his face or it bombed. I have no idea, but if he is back, I will take it. At least it wasn't Taker or the McMahon kids. He is going to win the Rumble.

The Jericho stuff was weird. I guess it's easy to say it now, but after five minutes had passed and he still wasn't speaking, I kind of got a feeling for where it was going. At that point I fast-forwarded. Trolling is the perfect word for it, but how does trolling lead to drawing money? I'm open-minded as to where it can go, but I found it more smug than clever which I guess is why I could never get into Community.

Smugness gets heel heat.

I think it's weird to second-guess one of the best mic workers of the past ten years, one who also happens to be very picky about ensuring that any return he makes is a worthwhile one.

I'm perfectly happy to be wrong about this, and knowing Jericho, I probably am. I just didn't enjoy this.

Also, that Cena promo was really fucking bad.

Did get that Kane was going for a Kevin Sullivan 1983 have the American Dream embrace darkness vibe, but Cena doesn't have the undying love of the people that Big Dust had. Now, if Kane can get, say Lex Luger, to rise up from the darkness of the water after walking beneath the water from Hawaii, then that would be impressive.

Someone needs to call BS on Cena's hokey "I respect the fans' right to boo me" schtick by pointing out that those fans booing him want nothing more than for him to tear them a new asshole on the mic. He's not giving the fans what they want, what they paid for - he's being a smug prick about it.

I didn't know what to say about this show last night, but that may be part of it. Could have been the crowd was poorly-miked, but right off the bat Cena comes out, and his opening promo died. The anticipation for the show may have raised the bar higher than the E can deliver these days.

After some thought, I guess that Jericho did what he had to. Off his last run, there was no particular reason for him to come back face (and they need top heels anyway) - but it was inevitable that the crowd was going to pop for his return. (As I did.) When he took so long to get the mic, I was also waiting for the snap heel turn, but it should work better after a week of the more casual fans stewing over that WTF? moment.

(So was that twitter feed inserting pics of Jericho holding a suitcase into various locations sourced from someone 'catching' him at the Memphis airport?)

Between Kelly's stinkface and Eve's bump-and-grind standing moonsault, the rule must be that heel Divas talk trashy, face Divas *act trashy.

If you're only going to have about 6 WWE Title matches on Raw all year, maybe you should schedule them so you aren't putting the match on in the middle of the show? Obviously the main event angle had to go last, and the pillar of hell spewing out from under the ring was an impressive visual.. but they weren't doing Punk and Ziggler any favors putting them on like that - second fiddle to a freakin' thrown-together six-man tag.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I even said to my son that Jericho was doing a Andy Kaufmann.

The problem is that my son (like the rest of the young WWE audience) replied "Who???"

I didn't like Jericho's return and this is why. Just like with Andy Kaufmann fans, the hardcore wrestling fans look at what Jericho did and say it was comedic genius (and maybe it was). But the majority of the other WWE viewers will think it was just stupid, not funny at all and one huge disappointment. It was just a long drawn out Kaufmann-like bit that just made the return become uncomfortably unfunny. Like I said, some people will say it was genius, but most will just have a disappointed "WTF was that???" response and possibly be turned off from RAW.

I don't see how doing something like this to the fans helps the ratings.

The best thing about Jericho's return is the Jeff Jarrett Memorial Electric Outfit. Y2Jacket! Y2Jacket! Jericho vs. Bryan could be a fantastic feud. This is what I want to see.

The column of fire from the ring gash was a damn great visual wasted on a Cena midcard feud. This angle doesn't need that kind of spectacle. It's not about Kane's demonic nature, it's about Cena denying HIS nature.

I need to see Ryder do more than the boot and the Rough Ryder. He's quickly becoming a two-move hero. A feud with Swagger/Vickie's stable has potential.

Maybe I was too focused on playing with my son's LEGOs during the Jericho thing, but it seemed to drag on & on & on & on & I hated it ...

But after thinking about it waaaay too much, it was pure genius ...
