Let's call this a rolling beta. :) I'm not sure how well it will work with some of our own code, but for the (x) of you who really wanted something more WYSIWYG, I've installed CKeditor (ckeditor.com) and tried to integrate it into new versions of the new thread/reply and editpost pages. (If you're reading this, at least the new thread is working - editpost works too!)
If you'd like to test it out, you will need to jump through one additional hoop by clicking on the "Would you like to try the CKEditor?" link when you're on the page with the old editor you already know and love. (Note that this will NOT carry over any changes you make, so click on the link BEFORE you start!)
As always, if you see anything unusual or something that needs fixing, let me know - I already know there will probably be some grief when quoting, but I think I've mostly worked around it. Also, I've taken out some buttons from the editor - mostly for stuff we don't allow you to put in posts as it is - but more buttons may need to be taken out later.
If you like this and think you might use it all the time, you MAY need to remove any header/footer code in your profile. Something to think about.
Holy jeezum crob! This thing has everything! Though you may, if possible, want to disable the autoplay function in the Flash menu. Oh, the spellcheck does some funky things too.

The The-W spellcheck initially brought up a blank window when I hit 'Check Spelling,' but worked when I tried it a second time. (after purposefully misspelling a word to try it out.) As I type this, it's back to the blank box and another pop-up telling me there's no spelling errors, again despite spelling some things incorrectly on purpose. I guess that makes sense, because when it did come up in the The-W spellcheck, when I tried to hit the close button, it just kept greying out the screen more and more until I closed the spellcheck window with the 'X'.
So I guess I'll just use the CKEditor spellcheck* from now on.**
*which I had totally glossed over **Hmm, perhaps not, it locked up on me spellchecking this post. Well, not locked up, but seemed to go into a loop when I hit 'Finish' only solvable by hitting 'Cancel.' Maybe it's the horizontal line?

I'll probably rename the CKEditor pages and move them out of "beta" soonish. I may also give you an option to edit your profile to make it your default if you like. (Would anyone want that?) (Is anyone besides Mike using this/still using this?)
Hmm. Very interesting. I did not know the CKEditor existed until I saw your latest post. It seems to not work unless I allow JavaScript -- I am running NoScript by default thanks to a nasty virus I received a while back from elsewhere, my apologies -- but that's easily fixable.
Definitely I am interested in the bold/italics and I am sure others like the font/size aspects. Not really a fan of the smiley choices - they don't look that appealing compared to what the board already has. Link, numbering, list, and justification is also useful to me.
Cool. I would be glad to not have to double check the FAQ for bolding code prior to any WWE prediction thread, let me tell you. Having the option as a default in profile would be good, too.
Actually, I'm looking into phpBB 2.0 RC1 on my development board. This is kinda funky though, I'm not sure I like how clean phpBB is I love it when a plan comes together
