Impact starting out with a knockouts segment for the first time that I could remember and boy was it a bad segment with Madison Rayne screeching all over the place and you had everyone including the announcers looking like idiots not questioning how Madison became head of the knockouts division then again they never asked how Karen Angle was in charge either. Sting straightened everything out by saying that Madison has no power and they even explained finally stated that Karen had a iron clad contract and that’s why she was still in charge now that Immortal no longer had power. I have no idea why they couldn’t explain that two months ago. Sting was pretty funny in mocking Madison’s screeching. The segment was a pretty crappy set up for a Mickie- Gail title match. They seemed to be setting up TNT Vs Gail-Madison at Genesis in the opening segment at least.

Abyss-Steiner Vs AJ-Kazarian was a very solid six minute match. AJ and Kaz did a good job bumping around for Steiner and Abyss and Steiner busted his ass in there. The finish with Abyss turning on Steiner made some sense and in another way didn’t make sense. I mean why did Abyss not turn on Steiner in their first round match up? AJ and Kazarian didn’t come out of the match looking too strong as Abyss took them both out and then took out Steiner. The bookers are clearly building Abyss up big time.

I liked Bully Ray’s mic work. He’s such a a prick that he can get the fans behind a stale act like Abyss. Abyss’ mic work wasn’t any good and his slobbering was pretty disgusting to be honest. Bully Ray Vs Abyss in a monsters ball should be a pretty good as that match works to their strengths. I just wish Joe was getting Abyss’ push as he’s better in every way.

I didn’t like Angle and Sting backstage segment because when Sting teased facing someone that throws kicks Angle scoffed and laughed thinking he would be facing a X division guy and cracked up and even asked to face two, this was really a burial of the X division. Angle pretty much pulled a Triple H in that segment.

The Zema Ion-Nese match being a pole match just marred the match. It has been three years since Russo booked a pole match so I guess he couldn’t resist. Aries was good on commentary, but this was a bad showcase for the X division. Nese did not come out of this three match series looking all that good.

Gunner Vs Williams really wasn’t a match as it lasted 90 seconds at best and ended with Gunner nailing Williams with a ddt on the floor. Is Williams on the outs? Man Williams has fallen off in the last year or so. They did a terrible job putting over the injury to Williams as they cut away right away.

The Roode segment started off with Taz pulling a Booker T. and killing Roode’s heat by praising Roode’s despicable actions and giving him credit for doing what it takes to win. Taz is just hideous as bad as Tenay these days. The Roode-Old High School buddy started out bad with nobody caring about this Tracy guy but Roode cut a good promo and Tracy handled himself well enough and Roode came off looking despicable for acting his old friend. I guess Roode is a dead beat dad according to that segment so I expect Taz to praise him for that next week.

ODB-Young Vs Joe-Magnus was about you’d expect with Young’s lame comedy and some actual funny stuff with ODB and Joe and Magnus did hit a couple of tag team moves. Eh it was not as bad as Young’s usual matches.

Angle Vs Rvd was okay with Angle controlling the match and carrying RVD. RVD has really, really slowed down in the ring and is so unmotivated and stale as fuck. He reminds me a lot of Lex Luger in his last few years in WCW. I had no issue with it looking like Angle was gonna pick up the clean win over RVD before Storm ran in. RVD means less than nothing in 2011. I did like the Post match interviews with Angle, RVD, and Storm.I’d like to see more of that in wrestling.

Mickie James Vs Gail Kim was an excellent match. It was surely the best women’s match either the WWE or TNA had in 2011. Gail pulled out some cool moves like the octopus and the key lock. Mickie flew around all over the place. It is too bad the crowd was dead because these women worked really hard. I believe this was the first time in a year that the knockouts Main Evented Impact last year it was Tara vs Mickie which was excellent too. I didn’t love the finish with Hebner going out of the ring for no reason like an idiot and you had a disguised woman interfering. It clearly was Madison Rayne and shockingly even the announcers figured it out.

All in all, while I had some issues with the show there was more than enough to like to rate this as a solid show. It had a great main event and a couple of good matches. This show was a huge upgrade from last weeks crap fest. It was a fine show to finish the year off with.

I think with the departure of Karen, the KO division will and has already gotten better. You do have to give TNA credit for putting a woman's match that went 15 minutes as the main event which WWE hasn't done in a long time. It was also pretty good, too. I like Angel/Storm even though I was hoping James would brutalize Kurt instead of a superkick. That could be a great feud for James. Besides the rather long way and fucked up way they got Bobby the belt, he has done well with it. Now, if they would make him a big deal that would be nice.

Other than that, TNA is still in a holding pattern. Jeff Hardy does nothing for me as a contender. The good wrestlers are being stuck in the mid card fighting for the tag team title and I have no idea nor do I care about the X-Division. Aries really wants to be Punk, but has none of the credibility to pull it off. I don't care about Gunner and why is Eric Young employed if anything why does he have that beard? I will say ODB should be given some credit, because Magnus looked to have murdered her in the tag match. She was also the entertaining one in the ring as well as Joe who just looked like he wanted to be anywhere else, but in that ring. I don't blame him.

I figured that I'd set the DVR to record Impact and give it another chance, as I haven't really watched since this summer but I wasn't really impressed.

I pretty much FF'ed through the opening Knockouts stuff since Madison was just overboard with the screeching and Sting just being a normal person sans face paint is just boring.

AJ/Kaz/Abyss/Steiner was OK, I guess, but last I remembered AJ and Kaz were the faces of the company - what happened there?

I'm not really a fan of the Monster's Ball match as it's mostly just unnecessary garbage wrestling. I wish Abyss would just go back to the mysterious guy who doesn't really say anything and has a mouthpiece like James Mitchell - I prefer him in that role as I think he just looses a lot of lustre as a face.

I can't get into the X-Division right now.. what happened there? It used to be really good and now it's just "meh". I liked Aries on commentary but the match wasn't that good - and it ended too quickly to really get into any rhythm.

Why is Gunner getting a push? I still don't care about him.
And why is his name still GUNNER if he's getting a push?
And why do they let him talk?
And why is DOUGLAS WILLIAMS being fed to him instead of challenging for a title?

Oh, and if Magnus was in the building, why did he like, you know, come out to help Douglas Williams considering they're tag team partners?

I hadn't really seen much of Roode as champion as I just stopped watching before he got the belt but I just didn't real get too into it. The promo was good, and he did what he could with it, but it just didn't do a lot make me get interested. I want to like Roode as champion, I do, because it's better than seeing Angle or Jarrett or Hogan with it but it just came across as dull.

And are they really making the angle be about how having the title has made Roode a bad person or a bad father when he's being challenged by meth-head Hardy?! Seriously.

Give me Douglas Williams. Give me Samoa Joe. Give me Christopher Daniels.. anyone but Hardy. Just make Roode be this arrogant guy who thinks he's better than everyone instead of making it about his family. At least then I could get behind it.

I can't really talk about the rest of the show as I saw Eric Young and ODB and couldn't take it anymore.

Can Joe please just leave TNA and set up a Punk vs. Joe match for the title at Wrestlemania? Please? He can take Douglas Williams with him.

Like last week, I thought Impact was underwhelming. Nothing was as bad as last week's Madison, Tara & Tessmacher fiasco so for that alone it was better than last week's show.

I could do w/o so many Madison promos and any hour opening or closing with her. She's super annoying, and not in a good way.

The opener was decent until the finish. Whenever they try (and fail) to get Abyss over and reestablish him as a monster, I think of all the people who'd be better served getting that attention and push. I didn't care for the 2nd tourney match. There could have been so many potentially great and interesting teams and match ups in this tournament yet the final 4 included Young/ODB & Steiner/Abyss. I'm burned out on Abyss hardcore matches and have seen enough stale Young comedy matches and unfunny vignettes for 10 lifetimes. It's a shame TNA spent so much of this tournament catering to those tired things and the even more tired partners who don't get along trope which won't help a very weak tag division in the short or long term instead of spending that time churning out good matches and testing out potential new teams that last beyond this month.

I'm glad they were finally able to fit the X Champ onto Impact. I don't see how a pole increases the intrigue and stakes of a match. That match was sloppy and no good. That series under delivered. The match quality had diminishing returns, the layout and finishes made Nese look like a schmuck which is unfortunate since the division needs to build up a decent face more than it needs to build up another heel, and Ion looked, in many ways, like a bad Indy stereotype during most of it. I'm glad they spent some time on other guys in the division, but I can't help but think they could have put together something much better and more productive the past three weeks.

I'll be disappointed if that's the end of Doug Williams. Them (maybe) getting rid of him or having him sit out a few more months while Anarquia, Crimson & Rob Terry not only stick around, but make TV (more) regularly is ridiculous.

Angle/RVD was underwhelming. At least they got the Storm/Angle feud back out of the cartoon world. Storm seems really underused this month which is a shame since he's one of the hottest acts they have.

It looked to me like Gail was carrying Mickie throughout. Mickie's comeback clotheslines (now the most distracting cliche of matches) missed by miles, and Gail reacted like she was getting Russian Sickles. And Mickie slipped coming off the turnbuckle. She didn't impress me. Gail played up her main event role.

Agree on Mitchell. It is amazing to me that he's not employed by the WWE or TNA or even ROH as some of the managers ROH trots out there are as dull and bland as Ted Dibiase Jr. Abyss has lost a ton of luster since he and Mitchell were seperated as he's been locked into stupid storyline after Stupid storyline like morphing into Evad Sullivan in 2010 or his dopey feud with Dr. Stevie and his promo are just the worst in the business. Abyss is so bad on the mic that it makes John Morrison blush. He was very effective as a monster heel from '03-07 but man since then his character has died a slow painful death and I can't imagine how he can be rebuilt after all the damage that's been done to him.

Getting him past the knockoff Mankind gimmick is the easiest route. Amazingly, he had some nice momentum as Hulk Hogan's pet project, and I don't want to see happy Evad Abyss again. But I think it proved that people want to react to the guy if given a decent gimmick.

Update the look. Give him a purpose. He's a fine midcarder.

The main event saved this Impact. Gail is awesome and got to show it. Mickie kept up with her and it was definitely the Women's TV match of the year. I don't generally care for the creative direction of the TNA product but I have to give them credit for putting the Knockouts in longer matches and giving their programs tv time. They prove that they can carry a main event & draw ratings.

Aires was a plus on commentary and Ion is good but needs the guys like Red & Lethal who aren't there anymore who can carry him in that wrestling style.

Roode did his best but his segment just didn't work for me, poorly planned.
