I don't even like Kane but I marked a little bit for the ending. I was really hoping he'd stay bald though. It would be kind of doing something old and new at the same time. Plus he'd look Jasony.

As for chokeslamming Cena, I think it was more like "Henry bailed but I gots to chokeslam a bitch!" than an actual heel turn.

I have zero problems with Kane's actions or motivations or what not. Seems clear that he's going to be after everyone as part of reclaiming his Monster status. I think the idea is that he came down to kill Henry, Henry wisely got the hell out of there as anyone with any sense would do when a giant dude with a robot head comes your way and Cena was too trusting (and apparently doesn't watch the show and never saw any of the Kane promos) and was there for Kane to vent on. This also gives the Undertaker a reason to come back so that HHH can challenge him (or they just do Undertaker-Kane: The Finale) for Wrestlemania.

I think Kane can still get big reactions depending on who he comes down to kill, and throwing him after both faces and heels can work if his attacks are impressive enough and the crowd has a chance to adjust after last night's initial confusion. My only problem is his current attire: is it supposed to be that he sewed it himself with a giant sewing machine?

Appreciated the Orton/Punk brief moment of unease and, on the other side, Cody and Dolph not getting along well. Fine character work on everyone's part.

I had forgotten that, hands down, my favorite missing WWE theme was Lita's "SOAP MAKIN' WOMAAAAN! SOAP MAKIN' WOMAAAAAAN!" entrance.

Punk's tribute video/'80s flashback/homage to Transformers: The Movie was great, though it didn't seem to go over with the crowd who were probably too young for it, since the also seemed to young for the Road Dogg. The highlight was the glowing finger point near the end.

Pretty much everything else was awful, as is now expected for Slammy shows. The beginning was brutal, brutal television, and I hope this spurs a Cole face turn because of how he was screwed in the rap battle. Also if Hornswoggle never speaks or appears again. I wish they'd turn the Slammys into another off night for the workers around a holiday where they don't want to be on live TV and don't expect people to be watching and turn it back into a pre-taped "awards show". I don't ever expect to get anything as beautiful as the original Slammy show again or anything (if only...if only), but I'd settle for something like the year where Austin killed Doink while the rest of the roster cheered him on.

The jokes are going to be terrible no matter what, but they'd at least play better in a taped setting than in front of a live crowd who HATES the host banter like they do every year, and I think guys like Ziggler, Cody, Ricardo, Christian, Regal, Truth, Punk and even Cole might thrive in a pre-taped, phony awards banquet set-up. Ricardo could host as their Ricky Gervais. Sheamus could wear his delightful little Hall of Fame jeff cap. Punk could wear a tuxedo t-shirt. We'd all win.

He would've gotten lost in the shuffle tonight, but it's gonna suck when Brodus debuts the night after TLC and wins the U.S. title from Ryder. :-/
That would be kinda great, actually. Gets immediate heat on Brodus, lets Ryder go right back int the chase with a new, different kind of obstacle and gives all the other mid-and-undercard guys something to do (get squashed by Brodus).

I can't be the only one who marked a little bit for Kane, can I?

As for Road Dogg, I'd still like one last run of the New Age Outlaws ... even if it's only for a couple of months.

It also makes me happy that they went to the old school Kane theme with the organs leading in to the music.

Don't think it was the original theme, seemed to be a cover off it. I remember the original being a lot less rocky.

I know it would be last minute but maybe they ended the show with two guys that won't be on TLC because they are going to throw a match together between the two? It's an all gimmick PPV so they could easily come up with a match in which Kane can win without necessarily making Cena look bad. Inferno Match? First Blood?

ding. overdub the non-diegetic horror movie score behind him and you've got Friday's first segment.

For the last five months Kane has been taking welding classes at ITT Tech.

I agree with both of you. As with Bret Hart and Rock they seem to like to overdub electric guitar riffs as some magical act of modernizing the original themes. But having the original number back was great and his return kind of harkened back to Kane's appearance at the end of the Dallas 10-man tag in 2000 even if it was exponentially less awesome.

Seeing Kane and Lita mentioned in the same post made me nostalgia for their aborted wedding, both for the instrumental Kane theme and Trish in her bridesmaid's dress.

Nothing for Kane will ever top his return at the 10 man tag. That may go down as one of the greatest yet somehow underrated moments of 2000. I also think it ended the consecutive streak of DX beatings end Raw and Smackdown. I was in my dorm room and everyone was on their feet was the lights went out and Paul came out. It is still to this day one of the greatest wrestling saves ever. The amount of guys he took out too, wow.

I saw that clip on youtube recently, and the pop was insane. But I couldn't quite remember what he was "returning" from. Was it just Xpac and Tori turning on him, or was there more to it than that?

I only half marked out. I really wanted the old mask; they seem to have gone with the far less cool RVD-Kane tag-team era mask.

I believe so.

Watched it out of curiousity.

-I will never complain about Cole again...We could've had STEPHANIE in the booth.

-The crowds were sooooo into everything WWF was putting out at the time. The only reaction to touch it recently was the Chicago crowd at MITB.

http://www.prowrestling.net/artman/publish/WWE/article10022302.shtml Raw drew a 2.8 rating against a terrible MNF game. Ouch. They drew a 2.98 for the usual two hours as the rating sunk in the third hour. The ratings have gone way down in the teen demo. I wonder how the WWE reacts to this. Maybe they won't because they drew a 2.97 last week. Maybe Vince will realize that Cole turns off the viewers and pull back on him, but I doubt it.

I popped for Kane's return as well, because it was unexpected more than anything else. They were smart to put the Kane video on this show so that you thought you wouldn't seem him until after the PPV.

As for the rest of Raw, it is true that most of the Slammy awards blended together. And yes there was some bad comedy and some trainwreck segments. Still, I enjoyed this show. There was one good match (tag match), one great match (4 way) and enough cool surprises that I didn't mind it at all.

I was planning to go to Raw next week in Philly, and this show solidified it for me, so this Raw last night ultimately worked on me.

The one thing about Kane is that TV does his entrance no justice at all. It is outstanding to see his entrance live and in person, and by far the best live entrance in the WWE.

But I stand by what I said, now that's Kane is back, now what do you with him besides a feud with Mark Henry?

I love the whole Christian with crutches/neckbrace act. The guy is totally underrated when it comes to his timing and heeling it up for the crowd. I hope he can wrestle again soon.

I'm sure he'll get one. more. match.

Agree with the earlier suggestion to make this a taped show.
Maybe next year, on the WWE network? The comedy they did back in the day (will someone kill the clown?) was much better to do when you don't have to deal with random fans.

I didn't expect/predict many of the presenters so that kept it fun but in general it was pretty boring.
The 4way 'trending' match was nice and fast paced.

Kane's return was well done.
I'm sure the explanation will be minimal.
I do hope he keeps the welding mask as well but it seems that's something they never really keep around.

Oh, and I never really liked his original theme(s). I liked the Finger Eleven theme best. The guitar riff was bad-ass.

Kane vs. Big Show would the next logical thing if he is heel. He may cost Show the title. I just hope they don't shove a Kane vs. Cena match on the PPV. The chances of Cena putting over Kane are slim, but if they do it would go a long way with the Cena is losing his touch. I just don't see it happening. Punk will get blamed for the ratings even though Cena and Henry were the main event.

I love Punk, and he is the reason I watch Raw, but he probably is partially to blame for the ratings dropping. But it is the company's fault, because they didn't rebuild with fresh faces sooner. Now everyone they are half heartedly pushing at or near the top just doesn't immediately grab the fans attention. Sometimes it works, but lately it's been missed opportunities with guys like Punk, Del Rio, and Swagger last year. Casual fans don't tune in to see new guys until a buzz is created.

But yeah, the will blame Punk, but not for the reasons listed here. They will think the cure is another Cena title reign. Another band aide on a gusher.
