Not tied to any of the books, the new film seems to be a completely new story written for the film. I was kinda hoping they would make a movie out of Blood Stone, the video game that came out last year. Filming starts Monday and is supposed to be ready for release here in the states by November 2012.
Earlier in the year, there was talk of bringing in a new Ernst Stavro Blofeld for this film and reintroducing SPECTRE. Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, and Albert Finney could all potentially play that role.
The surprising part of this is the choice of director who, it seems, has never done a 'action film' before. I'm sure it'll turn out okay though. Doug Liman hadn't done any action films before directing The Bourne Identity, and look how that turned out.
@007 (twitter.com) has the live coverage of the Skyfall press conference where all the stuff about the title, the cast, and what the plot is about were announced.

Oh god no.
If there's ever a tweet along the lines of "Waiting in line at airport, my #licensetokill just might come in handy. Lol!" or "Just snapped the neck of a bartender trying to kill me. The Martini was stirred and not shaken." ...well, I'm gonna burn down the Twitter offices or something.
It can't be any worse/great than the God Damn Batman on twitter. Not thrilled with the title, but the idea of finally bringing SPECTRE back as part of Quantum or behind Quantum could be awesome. They finally got a bad guy, I don't think I could take in Javier. I hope he bring his Old Country working boots for this.

Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.

Best thing on Twitter. There are a lot of "in character" Twits, but he's by far the best.
The idea of Albert "Hank Scorpio" Brooks actually playing a Bond villain is so, so amazing.

How in fuck did they a)write a Simpsons movie and b)get Brooks on board and NOT use Scorpio as the villain? He's pretty much the best one-off character they've ever had.

Because the Movie was about Springfield trapped under a dome and Hank Scorpio controls the East Coast. Logistically, it doesn't work. Maybe in The Simpsons Movie 2, Homer can drop Scorpio a line if he's on the East Coast.
My new fanfic/theory: Bond learns M is not the head of British Intelligence. She's the figurehead who talks to the agents, protecting the real chief's identity. Finney or Fiennes is that guy.
Maybe M stands for Moneypenney? Would they alter the franchise that much?
