TONIGHT: The Muppets take Raw! In anticipation for their new movie opening in a few weeks, the Muppets will be guest-hosting the Halloween-night show. Speaking of the show: We’ll be seeing the Michael Cole Challenge, the details of which have been kept under wraps. We do know that if JR wins, Cole will quit and JR will get his seat back as lead announcer of Raw. Also, the Rock will announce whether or not he’ll accept John Cena’s invitation to tag with him at Survivor Series. And CM Punk takes on Mark Henry.

- WWE Open.

- Cold open to the arena, no theme music or fireworks. Instead, The Rock’s music played just after Michael Cole welcomed everyone to Raw. Rock appeared on the TitanTron and addressed John Cena’s request for him to be his tag partner last week. Rock said he and Cena are the two most polarizing men on the face of the earth, both representing an era and a generation. Rock said Cena asked from the heart last week, and Rock answered, from the heart: “Hell no.” He repeated that thrice. Rock said in order for the two of them to be partners, one has to slap the other in the hand to make a tag, but Rock would rather slap Cena in the face. He said Cena wants Team Bring It to team with the Fruit Loop Troup. Hell no, he said. No way. But then…Rock started to listen. He said people on Twitter were begging him to team up with Cena, and the reason that hooked him was that Team Bring It hates The Miz and R-Truth. Rock said it doesn’t matter what he or Cena want, but what the fans want. “John Cena, your wish just came true.” He said for one night, he and Cena will be a tag team at Survivor Series. Rock then addressed Miz and R-Truth, saying they’ve become the most hated men in WWE. He told them to face the Great One one-on-one (but it’s a tag match!). Rock told Cena he got his wish and now Cena’s fans will be thanking him on Twitter. Rock said there’s another reason he’s tagging with Cena at Survivor Series, that being him wanting Cena to witness Rock doing what he does best. He said what he’ll do to Miz and Truth is just a taste of what he’ll do to John Cena. Rock said he and Cena at Survivor Series, “never before, never again.” Then he ended with his catchphrase. I like that they brought it around to Cena vs. Rock at ‘Mania and used it to hype that match as well.

- Tonight, a Wrestlemania Rematch will see Cena face The Miz.

(1) CM Punk vs. Mark Henry
What is that cutoff tee Punk is wearing? I didn’t get a good look at it. Punk needs to win this match to earn a title shot at Survivor Series. During Henry’s entrance they showed the full superplex and ring breaking from Vengeance, the first time they’ve showed that on TV. Before the match began, Johnny Ace walked out and introduced himself. Ace reiterated the stips that were announced on WWE.com last week.

Henry had the advantage early and slammed Punk into the canvas for two just shy of one minute in. Henry tossed Punk over the top, but Punk hung on and kicked Henry in the head. Springboard clothesline by Punk. He went to the top and hit the Randy Savage elbowdrop. It got two at 1:55. Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez had made their way to ringside. Del Rio was giving Rodriguez instructions, then sent him into the ring. Rodriguez attacked Henry, pummeling him and pummeling him. Referee Scott Armstrong didn’t call for the bell until Rodriguez hit Henry with his shoe.

Winner: Henry, via disqualification, at 2:31. Made sense from Del Rio’s point-of-view and gave Punk some credibility by having Del Rio afraid of facing him.

After the match, Punk jumped onto Del Rio and Rodriguez at ringside. Del Rio left the scene, and Punk tossed Rodriguez to Henry, who gave Rodriguez the World’s Strongest Slam in the ring. As Henry’s music played, Punk chased Del Rio to the back. Henry stepped on, then over Rodriguez on his way out of the ring.

- Cole plugged the Michael Cole Challenge against JR later tonight.

- But up next, the Muppets! BTW, it was Miss Piggy, Kermit, and Fozzy on the graphic.

[Commercial Break]

- In two weeks, a special three-hour Raw will feature The Rock. They’re calling it “Raw gets Rocked.”

- Justin Roberts introduced tonight’s guest stars, The Muppets, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. They showed up on the stage, which has been set up slightly differently to accommodate the Muppets. Piggy called herself the original Diva, then Vickie Guerrero interrupted with her “excuse me,” and she and Jack Swagger came out. Vickie said it was bad enough that Hugh Jackman took their TV, now they have to share it with livestock. Swagger threatened to make Kermit into Frog’s legs and have a ham dinner, then finished with “wocka wocka.” Piggy called Swagger “Frankenstein,” then Kermit covered for her by saying he didn’t want trouble with Swagger or his mother. That got a pop. Vickie and Piggy went face-to-face until Santino Marella interrupted. “This is bizarre,” said Cole.

Marella told Swagger not to pick on Kermit or Piggy or any other Muppet friend. He told Swagger to warm up, as Johnny Ace told him that Swagger will face him in a match. Kermit wished “Santini” good luck, and Swagger grabbed Kermit’s mouth and kept it shut. Swagger said he has Dolph Ziggler in his corner, but Marella said Ziggler will face Zack Ryder tonight. Kermit and Piggy did Ryder’s catchphrase, then Kelly Kelly walked out. She was dressed in white, with a cowboy hat and sword. Santino posed for a kiss, but Kelly walked by him and planted one on Kermit. Piggy had a look of shock on her face. Kelly went to the ring, as a Divas Halloween Battle Royal is next.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Divas Costume Battle Royal – Winner is #1 Contender for the Divas Title

Eve is Robin, Aksana is Morticia, Rosa is a cavewoman, AJ is a character from Mortal Kombat, Kelly Kelly is a pirate, Alicia Fox a sailor, The Bellas are Mario and Luigi, Kaitlyn as Dog the Bounty Hunter, Tamina an Egyptian Goddess. Beth Phoenix was dressed as royalty – I think Nattie’s was the only one I missed.. Of course it’s kind of ridiculous to have this match as a #1 Contender match. Rosa was eliminated :22 in. Aksana out at :42. AJ was out at :57, and Tamina went out at 1:00. Kaitlyn out at 1:08. Eve did some gyrating then hit a standing moonsault on the Bellas. Kelly did the Stinkface on both Bellas. The Bellas were clotheslined out by Eve and Kelly at 1:51; one of them hung on but Eve pushed her out. It was down to Natalya, Alicia, Kelly and Eve. Fox was eliminated at 2:30, then Kelly at 2:38, both by Natalya. Eve then snuck up behind Nattie and tossed her out.

Winner: Eve, at 2:44. Not surprised we’ll be seeing a rematch, even though Fox won beat Nattie last week.

After the match, Beth and Nattie confronted Eve, but Kelly Kelly and Fox backed her up and helped back down the Divas of Doom.

- Bunson and Beaker were in the lab backstage. Bunson created an energy drink, designed to give people better speed, agility and everything. Beaker was supposed to take it to Santino, but he ran into Christian in the hallway. Christian took the drink from Beaker and dumped it in the hallway. Christian called Beaker a nerd. Sheamus asked if there was a problem and Christian just walked away. Then we had the Sheamus-Beaker confrontation. Sheamus said he couldn’t make the family reunion this year and told Beaker to tell Aunt Teresa he said hello. Sheamus helped Beaker style his hair a little more like him.

- Air Boom came out for a match. They face Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes next.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Air Boom vs. Cody Rhodes & Wade Barrett
Evan Bourne with a knee to the mid-section of Rhodes, then a tag to Kofi Kingston. High-impact move early on got a one-count. Kofi fought off Barrett on the apron, but Kingston then tried to springboard in – Cody kicked the top rope to break Kofi’s momentum. Side Russian leg-sweep for a near-fall. Cole kept pushing the Barrett Barrage on commentary. Boss Man Slam for two by Barrett. Cody back in, snap-mare into a chin lock with the arm barred. Barrett made the tag and booted Kingston in the corner. Bourne was getting frustrated with his partner being cut off. “Cody sucks” chant from fans in the first few rows. Rhodes with a few punches, but Kingston came back with a monkey flip. Crowd didn’t seem to be into it for whatever reason. Bourne and Barrett both tagged in. Bourne tried a hurricanrana, but Barrett held on and put him up for Wasteland. Bourne turned it into a DDT for two, broken up by Rhodes. Kingston got involved and Rhodes tossed him to ringside. Bourne went up for Air Bourne – Cody distracted Bourne and Barrett popped up, grabbed Bourne, and gave him Wasteland for the win.

Winners: Barrett and Rhodes, at 5:29. I could get behind a Barrett & Rhodes vs. Air Boom feud.

After the match, Christian ran down and attacked Kingston. The other two heels joined in until Sheamus ran down to make the save, which included giving a nice Brogue Kick to Rhodes, laying him out while Christian and Barrett escaped. Wonder if they’ll turn this six-man feud into an eight or ten-man elimination tag match at Survivor Series.

- From high above in a suite, Stadler and Waldorf were shown. Stadler gave Waldorf the “what” treatment. Waldorf said they went from Stone Cold to someone born in the Stone Age.

- Johnny Ace was backstage texting and CM Punk walked in and asked Ace if he was texting or if he saw what happened out there. Punk asked if that was fair and impartial. He asked what he had to do to get a title match. Ace said Punk can get his match if ADR agrees to give him one. Ace turned his back and said he had some business to take care of, then went back to texting. Punk gave Ace a slap on the ass on his way out.

- Del Rio vs. Big Show is next.

[Commercial Break]

- Brodus Clay vignette aired. He’ll make his return on Raw next week.

(4) Alberto Del Rio vs. The Big Show
Justin Roberts was forced to handle Del Rio’s ring introduction due to what happened with Rodriguez earlier in the night. They once again showed the ring collapsing during Show’s suplex of Henry at Vengeance. Show choked Del Rio in the ropes, getting up on Del Rio early. Suplex by Show for a near-fall at 1:26. Show charged at Del Rio, but Del Rio got out of the way. He couldn’t capitalize and ended up being clotheslined down. Del Rio jumped on Show’s back in desperation, locking in a sleeper hold. Show fell to one knee as he tried to fight off the long goodnight. Show got back to his feet and flipped Del Rio off his back. Show coughed and grabbed at his throat, selling the effects of the move. Del Rio went to ringside, trying to catch his breath himself. The two fought outside the ring, but Show rolled in to break the count. Del Rio grabbed Show, but Show pushed him into the barricade and gave him a knee to the stomach. Show again broke the count but this time, Del Rio gave him an enziguiri to the shoulder. Back in the ring, Del Rio kicked Show in the skull several times. Front face-lock by ADR with Show on his knees. Show broke out and both men were down at 7:25. Show and Del Rio went back and forth and for some reason, they showed a random woman in the crowd – it’s not like she had an interesting look on her face – it was sort of blank. Del Rio was thrown to ringside as they went to break at 8:55.

[Commercial Break]

Back with ADR working the leg of Show. Show got to his feet, but Del Rio DDT’d him. Two-count at 13:12, and the kick out sent Del Rio out of the ring. Back in, Del Rio had Show cornered and went for the enziguiri, but Show hit his knockout punch for the pinfall win.

Winner: Show, at 13:46. It certainly felt like 13:46. A little surprised Show went over here.

As Show headed to the back, CM Punk came out. He shared a Disel-Big Show Royal Rumble look with Big Show, then got a mic from ringside. Punk also got a bottle of water and sat next to Del Rio in the ring. He asked if he could hear him, then poured some of the water on Del Rio. That woke him up. Punk wanted to ask Del Rio a question, and he thinks he’ll say yes, because first, Punk will apply the Anaconda Vice, and he won’t let go until he gives Punk a match at Survivor Series. Punk did just as he promised until Del Rio said, “you have your match!” Punk got the mic and was about to tell the fans Del Rio said yes, but it stopped working. He got another mic and said he’ll see Del Rio at Survivor Series, “amigo.”

- Fozzy Bear and Gonzo were backstage at Raw and Fozzy said the guys are so big he saw one guy with his own zip code. Gonzo said he could be a WWE Champ if he put his mind to it. Vickie, Swagger and Ziggler walked up. Fozzy said Gonzo was just joking about what he said. Swagger, and Ziggler stretched Gonzo’s arms way out, then wrapped them around his head. Ziggler told Gonzo that if his friends are going to get involved in his match, the same thing will happen to them. Gonzo asked how those guys knew he needed that adjustment. Fozzy deadpanned the camera on that line. No reaction from the crowd, though.

- Cena vs. Miz is still to come.

[Commercial Break]

- After an exterior shot of Atlanta, they showed some fans in the crowd dressed up for Halloween, including one dressed as Sheamus.

- The trailer for the Muppets Movie aired.

- Animal was shown as the special guest timekeeper for the next match.

(5) Jack Swagger vs. Santino Marella
Swagger had Vickie at his side. Santino mocked Swagger, and Swagger clotheslined him. Forearms across the buckle by Swagger. Swagger charged at Santino, but Santino got his boot up on a second charge. “We want Ryder” chant by the crowd. Swagger took Marella down again and Santino did a split to avoid a clothesline. Diving headbutt for two by Santino. Single-leg take-down into an ankle-lock by Swagger. Santino kicked him off. Santino then spotted Beaker at ringside, who gave him the energy drink. Santino took a sip and he seemed to choke on it. Swagger turned him around and Santino spit it into his face, then rolled him up for the win.

Winner: Marella, at 2:35. Well, we got a payoff for the earlier backstage skit.

- Miz vs. Cena is still to come.

[Commercial Break]

(6) Zack Ryder vs. Dolph Ziggler
Ryder with a couple arm-drags, but Ziggler hit a dropkick. Ziggler then stomped Ryder a few times as Vickie shouted encouragement. Ryder made a comeback and leapt onto Ziggler outside the ring. They went to break with Ryder in control at 1:51.

[Commercial Break]

Back live at 5:05, this time, with Ziggler in control. There was a “Let’s go Ryder/Woo Woo Woo” chant. Points for creativity. Ziggler tried a dropkick, but Ryder turned it into a flip into the corner. Ryder picked Ziggler up and face-planted him. Ryder pounded away on Ziggler in the corner, then set him up for the running boot to his seated foe. Pin got two at 7:33. Ziggler tried a charge, but Ryder got his knees up in the corner. Pin got three, but after counting the fall, he saw Ziggler’s foot under the rope. The bell rang, but John Cone waved it off. Vickie grabbed Ziggler’s leg on his way back into the ring and the Zig Zag was set up. Ryder held onto the top rope then hit the Rough Ryder legdrop for the win.

Winner: Ryder, at 8:49. Nothing wrong with the match, and I liked the ref counting three then realizing his mistake and correcting it. Made it feel a little unscripted.

- John Cena vs. Miz is still to come.

- Next, we’ll get the latest on Triple H’s condition after the attack by Kevin Nash last week.

[Commercial Break]

- A video package recapped the Hunter vs. Nash incident from last week.

- Cole said Hunter suffered a concussion and a fractured vertebrae, and will be out another five weeks. Jerry Lawler said a story broke on WWE.com that Johnny Ace has signed Kevin Nash. Nash confirmed he will be on Raw next week.

- Michael Cole stood atop the announce table and said JR isn’t in the building tonight. He said JR met with a specialist this weekend and is suffering from inflammatory bowel disease. He said his sources in the medical community have told him that JR is suffering from lots of nasty stuff (in medical terms- I wasn’t about to transcribe them all). Cole pulled out a diaper and said JR should’ve worn those tonight in accepting the challenge. Cole asked if JR will show up next week to face the challenge? “It depends,” said Cole, who then laughed hysterically. I wonder if they were running long or they just plain didn’t have any ideas for the challenge.

- Stadler and Waldorf said the only thing worse than listening to Michael Cole is…nothing.

- Miss Piggy was admiring John Morrison’s abs and asked him out to dinner after the show. Morrison said he has plans but has a friend who’s totally free. It was Hornswoggle. He showed off his Piggy tattoo on his ankle. He went in for a kiss, and got her on the cheek. She gave him a “hiya!” chop on the testicles. Kermit walked in and asked if Horny was okay. He just shouted. Kermit said, “and I thought our show was weird.” Cody Rhodes walked in and put a bag over Kermit’s head. “Trick or treat” said Kermit.

- The Miz was out for his match. Stadler did the “you can’t see me” sign and Waldorf said he can’t see anything. Stadler then said it’s a good thing, because Cena is fighting Miz.

[Commercial Break]

(7) The Miz vs. John Cena
Match began right at 11:00 EST. Lawler said Miz and Truth have a good chance of winning at Survivor Series. Suplex and another by Cena, but Miz kicked out. Running boot to the face by Miz, who then kicked Cena in the back several times. Just Tweeted by JR: “4 the record, I'm in Atlanta. Was informed by Raw GM's office, my services weren't needed. Cole wants 2 make fun of my 3 surgeries. Classy.” Miz took Cena down again, then gave Cena a running boot as Cena was seated. Corner clothesline found the mark, then he went to the top rope. Double axe-handle for two. After dueling Cena chants, Cena worked his way out of a rest-hold, suplexed Miz then landed the five-knuckle shuffle. AA was turned into an inverted DDT for two at 4:41. Miz tried another running boot, but Cena grabbed his ankle for the STF. Miz got out and connected on his back-breaker/neck-breaker combo. Big clothesline by Cena for two. Miz crotched Cena on the top rope, then went up to meet him. Cena pushed Miz off and hit the Sicilian Slice for two at 7:08. AA avoided again, and a short DDT (which Cena sold on the skull, a la RVD or Val Venis) by Miz for two. Miz charged at Cena and he was back-dropped to the floor for his troubles. Miz was then thrown into the barricade. Miz took advantage of a distraction provided by a fan in a Scream outfit, who grabbed Cena, and Miz tried the Skull Crushing Finale in the ring. Cena turned it around for the STF and the win.

Winner: Cena, at 8:58.

The fan in the Scream outfit charged the ring and Cena gave him an AA. Fans didn’t really seem to know what to think, but Cena unmasked the fan and it was R-Truth. Cole plugged the Survivor Series tag match as Cena celebrated to end the show.

So why does Cena need a partner to face Truth and Miz? He proved tonight that he can dispatch of both of them all by himself. The booking made no sense he should have gotten beat down while fans chant The Rock's name. I give up on trying to figure out the WWE's booking. Cena does not need protecting, but Miz and Truth sure do.

I'll say it right now; I cannot, under any circumstances, take Awesome Truth seriously in a straight up tag team match when Cena can beat Miz with Truth interfering and leaving them both laying. Through in the Rock, and they have zero shot or credibility. Even if they play up internal dissension I'm not sure I'd buy them as a threat.

Highlight of the Santino vs Swagger match; the payoff of the backstage skit. Also a highlight (for me); "We want Ryder" - "WOO WOO WOO".

Like I (@rickardmorin) mentioned to you on twitter (@gregmparks), the Ryder/Ziggler match was almost a aversion of the Dusty Finish. It was interesting that two very typical heel tactics (foot under the ropes and manager interference) didn't work. It helped that crowd was actually invested in the match. All of that does make me wonder if they'll take Ryder seriously.

Big Show vs Del Rio felt loooooooooooong. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG. Like no business being that long loooong.

NEEDED MORE MUPPETS.

I think Punk was in "costume" with the sleeveless shirt, but it was too obscure for me...a Japanese wrestler?

Let's go back to the thread with our Muppet RAW predictions... http://the-w.com/t/44270

And yes, Statler & Waldorf in the balcony, as expected...

I loved almost all the Muppet segments...the first one, with Piggy and Kermit out on the entrance was gold.

Re: AJ as Kitana from MK, if you saw her doing the fan attack at the start of the match...

@WWEAJLee I really thought that fan lift was gonna work...

I didn't place it, but I showed this tweet (@marchhaire) to Kim and she was, like, "ohh yeeeeah"

CM Punk is wearing Jack Burton's shirt from Big Trouble in Little China. #Raw #IWantWrestling

I hope all this humiliation is worth the paycheck for JR.

I bet guys like Foley and Edge would have loved doing a skit with The Muppets.

I really lost it when Cody put the bag on Kermit. Other than that, probably one of the most ludicrous shows I've ever seen, but in a good way. Santino allying himself with Muppets, Vickie Guerrero's stable having beef with them, it was zany. I just can't help but think, though, that next week I'll still be thinking "Sheamus is related to a Muppet" and "Jack Swagger thinks Muppets are real". The end of the Fozzy/Gonzo/Swagger/Ziggler bit really, REALLY fell flat though. The joke was so bad it was met with ABSOLUTE SILENCE. Not even a cough.

I did like the show, btw, but what's the over/under on when this shows up on WrestleCrap?

I like how Henry is being seemingly being treated like a tweener more and more each week, but I think that's what happens when you have a dominant heel champion that doesn't use overt cheat tactics nor doesn't team up with other heels. It's in the spectrum of the Cool Heel persona, but not so much. Weird, never thought I'd be a Mark Henry mark.

Show/Del Rio was painfully slow, but it was to help set up Punk/Del Rio at SS so it's all good.

I knew I recognized Punk's shirt, but I thought it was Samurai Jack, not ole' Jack Burton.

Does it seem like they are just replicating the Mark Henry push on SD with Brodus Clay on RAW? (not a complaint)

I would assume so, though the last time I remember this many vignettes for a wrestler, it was Awesome Kong Kharma, and that didn't pan out. Before that, it was the Boogie Man, and that didn't pan out. Glacier too.

I like Brodus Clay well enough, but let's wait and see...

Didn't Johnny Curtis get a bunch of vignettes before he debuted on Smackdown? And we got a bunch for Mistico.

Kong's didn't pan out because she got pregnant, Vince was apparently very high on her before the baby. Sin Cara might not be working out for the IWC, but his merch sells like hotcakes.

They're also doing nice little promo videos every so often during Raw showcasing talent not incoming or on the shelf.

WWE champ lost clean, tag champs lost clean, US champ lost clean, World champ only wins via cheap heel tactic and the belt is diminished anyway by having the World champ be just a stepping stone -- no mention about Punk having a claim to Henry's title if he won the non-title bout.

The Muppets were handled about as well as could be expected. Cannot believe we didn't see the Swedish Chef at some point.

The IC champ won.

In a tag match.

And I don't think brought the belt to the ring.

StaDler?? Really? Really! REALLY?!?

As mentioned, things like the World champ being a test to *face* the WWE champ...who lost clean to a guy who "lost" to the World champ and Cena not needing ANY tag partner...let alone a legend and his mortal enemy really ruin it.

Thankfully the Muppets were around otherwise this would have been a total write-off.

Shut up, Josh!

! That finish might be the new stupidest Cena win ever, ahead of Nexus at SummerSlam. At least Cena beating them made sense as an absurdly premature blowoff. I can't even think of a I don't even what. I mean. Odds: overcome. Hate: risen above.

This was not a night to be a main event heel. I think the only heels who left with any heat were Mark Henry and Miss Piggy.

Crap WWE comedy with puppets is still crap WWE comedy.

Lone positive is that it might, might have set up Ryder winning the U.S. title in New York City. And no Triple H until after Survivors.

'sup J-Shap.

I'm in total agreement with the John Cena crap. For Survivor Series to be worth paying for, Cena needs to be losing week after week to Miz and Truth. The idea that he 'needs' the Rock to beat them is ridiculous when he continuously beats them by himself week after week.

My problem here is that you think Miss Piggy is a heel? Really? Where did THAT come from. Oh wait... is it because she dislikes Kelly Kelly, who kissed her Kermie, making her a cheating whore. I also found it hilarious that Miss Piggy looked nothing like Vickie Guerrero and instead looked EXACTLY like Kelly Kelly. Who's a piggy now K2 fans? Don't deny that they looked alike, you know they did. I can't be the only one to notice this.

And why are you hating on the Muppets J-Shap? What did they do to you? Sure it was 'crap WWE comedy with puppets' but every show can't be serious. You gotta learn to laugh a little, accept that wrestling is just goofy fun. This ain't Shakespeare you know.

EDIT: Oh yeah, am I the only person who thought it strange that there was no interaction between the Muppets and John Cena? You would think that the guy the kids love the most on the roster would have had a backstage skit with the kid friendly Muppets, but nothing of the sort was to happen. I find that very strange...

My point is that they aren't afraid anymore to let a top talent go to the competition if the situation warrants it, not to compare the reasons the two were released.
