Supergirl #2. Flashback to Krypton! We learn that Kara dressed provocatively on the old homeworld as well and that "three days ago" in her memory, she was just with her cousin Kal, who was just a baby! And now there's an adult man in ceremonial Kryptonian armor wearing the El family S crest calling himself Kal-El, the son of Jor-El and Lara, flying around this strange planet Kara is on. So she fights him. And fights him. And fights him. Until finally, they stop fighting after they smash a part of the Great Wall of China and they start talking to each other. (Neither of them used Repair The Great Wall of China Vision like in Superman IV). Superman promises to take Kara somewhere that will answer her questions, presumably the Fortress of Solitude. Kara also discovers she has X-ray vision and that she can fly. The issue felt like a Marvel Comics throwback: two heroes meet, have a misunderstanding, and then fight. More interesting was Superman conversing with Kara with stilted, formal Kryptonese, and Kara remarked how it sounds like he learned the language from reading a textbook. Superman should have said to Kara in the native tongue, "Please stop punching me!"

Justice League #2. Made me feel like I was 12 again. Because the book talked down to me like I was 12. Also, the superheroes acted like they were all 12. This is the flagship book of The New 52? I get that they're all five years younger, but none of them are written to be all that smart or capable adults who just happen to be starting out as superheroes (besides Batman by default). They seem like bickering simpletons, especially Hal Jordan and The Flash, who joins the action here. This also felt like old Marvel 'heroes meet, misunderstanding, fight'. We learn that GL and Flash have known each other for a while and that Central City has a manhunt going to capture The Flash. Meanwhile, an actual teenager, Victor Stone, has a whiny confrontation with his father, as Motherboxes Silas Stone was analyzing and Superman was carrying suddenly activate. The explosion injures Vic Stone setting up Cyborg, while Parademons attack the future Justice Leaguers. The last panel promises: NEXT MONTH: WONDER WOMAN! But I dunno, I may have to drop this book. It's like Justice League for dummies.

Wonder Woman #2. Great Hera! We hang out with Hera for a bit as she plots against her (absent) husband Zeus and his newest bastard growing in the womb of Zola, the girl Wonder Woman rescued last issue. Wonder Woman brings Zola and Hermes to Paradise Island and Hermes tells Zola the classic origin of Wonder Woman to set up the shocking twist DC has given away already in a series of press releases to the media. We also see some Amazon combat as a new goddess, Strife, the brother of Ares who looks a lot like a member of The Endless from The Sandman, attacks the Amazons looking to embrace her little sister. Does she mean Zola's unborn child? No, she means Wonder Woman! Shocking twist! I wish there was more meat on these bones, but I still like this stew.

Batman #2. This was awesome. I almost don't want to ruin anything about it. Old Wayne Tower! Batcycle vs. helicopter! Batman's new morgue tech! The answer to whether Dick Grayson is a killer! The Court of Owls! "I love killing Waynes!" So awesome.

Sticking with Batman, Wonder Woman and Deadman. Dropping Justice League and Captain Atom.

What in the blue bell is Batman: Odyssey and why didn't anyone stop me from buying it?? I didn't realize it had a special history and I didn't do my due diligence until *after* I bought and read it. My mistake.

Yeah, Justice League is all kinds of bad. "They're just starting out" is not an excuse for the characterizations I'm seeing here. I'm pretty sure if we acted that moronic on our first days on the job, we'd have been fired. Batman's the only one written halfway decently.

The luster is starting to come off Geoff Johns when it comes to Hal. We get the idea shoved down our throats constantly that Hal Jordan is FEARLESS! But lately all we've seen of Hal in both his own title and in JL is watching him rush into idiotic situations headfirst. That's NOT fearless! That's RECKLESS! There's a big difference!

You know what though? Sinestro identified this in Secret Origins and a couple of other places. Pretty sure Ferris and others were starting to comment on it leading up to (and during) War of the Green Lanterns.

Possibly plot point?

Reckless and Fearless are the different sides to the same coin. Hal in a a lot of the different origins has been shown to be reckless. He is a hot shot pilot after all.

After reading Johnny O's reviews, I am kinda glad I'm opting out of this. I can understand Flash or even Hal being a jackass, but Clark, no. Superman is supposed to inspire the others to some degree not turn them all into whinny hipster douchbags.

Dropped Nightwing. Batman is still good and I'm interested in finding out more about this Court of Owls. Anyone read Gates of Gotham? This could easily tie into that.

But that's how a *real* ("brick and mortar") shop would work too in that you wouldn't be able to get ANY title you would want ;-) (Speaking as someone who has hunted down many a back issue in his day - and some current ones too!).
