I never watched Revenge but I heard rotten things. I had no idea Suburgatory even existed, and that word makes no sense to me. It's not a very cromulent word. Also, something called Happy Endings got more script orders.

I realized the only thing I watch on ABC is Charlie's Angels. I'm one of the few people in America who can claim this.

Great-ish news about Happy Endings!

We tried to watch Suburgatory (Suburbatory would have sounded better, but typing it out I can see why they didn't go that way.) and shut it off 1/2 way through the first episode.

It seemed very "go for the low hanging fruit" with too easy jokes and petty, unlikable characters. So of course it's one of the highest rated new shows of the season, along with Tim Allen's new show, which isn't much better, but more "comfort foody".

I want to play you in a Fantasy TV league. Wayans Junior will be slo-mo chicken dancing with Zooey this time next year. Suburgatory is a good waiver pickup.

But seriously, I'm curious- why the hate for MF? You were as strong a proponent as anyone, no? You're not cutting off your nose to spite Emmy's face, are you?

trying to think of an answer
where I don't come off
badly

For some reason I like busting the chops of Modern Family. It's the same feeling of satisfaction you get from tripping somebody who wasn't doing anything wrong. (Wait, that's not a thing?) It's going to win Emmys for the next five years and I have a dozen IRL friends to whom it is beloved. It has made me oppositional defiant. I'm nothing more than a common troll when it comes to the MoFam; I am no better than my bro Cerebus.

Plus people pretty much stopped extolling Glee after its first year so I couldn't poke them about that.

I did like season 1, and still like the performances of Phil, Luke, and Haley. But I thought it got a lot more formulaic and derivative in season 2, progressively less clever and increasingly cloying and overly sweet (show-closing voiceovers of Full House lessons). I may be a bad person. :-/ Also, from a liberal guilt perspective, I really do think their portrayal of gays is legitimately bad -- and Colombians not much better -- and it equates depicting the marginalized in any fashion, even if they are gross caricatures, with somehow empowering them.

As a fan of comedy (which has to be the unfunniest term one can write) I've stuck with it regularly cuz I always appreciated some of their defter jokes. But rather than watch a show I found fine and occasionally funny and get mad at it, I figured the sane person thing to do would be to just not watch it. Full disclosure, though, I postponed plans to quit because of the arrival of David Cross and that "offensive line" pun. I'm sure they're thrilled.

I find Happy Endings very hit or miss--some weeks it's really funny, some weeks it's lousy. When they were showing two episodes a night at the end of last season, invariably one would be good and the other would not. I thought this week's was really good after two down weeks.

I like Modern Family much more--just about every episode makes me laugh.

Suburgatory improved with the second episode.

I'm sticking with it.

The title is a portmanteau of the words "suburban" and "purgatory".

...and its a great show, definitely worth watching

There was a story on NPR very recently that compared Sofía Vergara's character on MF with characters on I Love Lucy in terms of furthering positive Latino representations on television.

Latinos On TV: Laughing At Culture, Laughing With It (npr.org)

I think the gay representation issue cuts a closer line - the only reason I don't find it patently offensive is because nearly everyone on the show is dysfunctional, so it makes sense that Mitchell and Cameron would be as well... but I think a case can be made either way.

That would be on account of Glee sucking for most of its second season.

Yeah, and Glee is not getting any better this season either. The Mike Chang storyline from the latest episode was offensive in so many ways. Mercedes and Rachel having a Diva-off...AGAIN?

Not to mention they undid about two seasons' worth of character development for Quinn and decided to turn her into a cold, unlikable two-dimensional bitch.

Wait, this thread ISN'T about Glee?

So there's one show left for ABC to either get behind or ax: Pan Am, the one other ABC show John Orquiola's been watching. John, you have a better sense for what's destined to flop than I do. (I only WISH they'd can Whitney, but knowing that NBC's picked it up, I've decided to drop it, cold turkey.)

Got to check it out today. It's probably one of the worst of the Pixar movies (nowhere near the quality of Finding Nemo or The Incredibles), BUT that doesn't mean it wasn't a damn good film.
