"Every four point six seconds, I want a shot of Scarlett Johansson pouting her lips and tossing her hair!!" - Overheard in The Avengers trailer editing suite
I can't believe this is actually happening. Right now I'd put it on my list as #3 most anticipated movie for 2012, which should tell you how strong 2012 will be.
(the two I'm more excited for are The Hobbit and Les Miserables. Yes, I'm a theatre nerd).
Am I in Horseville? Because I'm hearing nothing but naysayers!
The exchange between Steve Rogers & Tony Stark was excellent, as was Thor's amusement at the whole thing. They got that dynamic just spot on.
If this movie is good, the whole build-up of the Avengers franchise will be one of the coolest things to ever happen in the film industry.

After seeing the trailer a second time, I went from EPIC to ok. I feel like I am seeing more of a worn out Michael Bay flick than the ultimate team up. Its going to be up to the cast to make things pop up.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.

Are you forgetting a certain Dark Knight?
This movie looks so cool. I can't wait.
I could watch Robert Downey Jr. play Tony Stark all day. If they put out ten more Iron Man films I would go.

But the explosions that you do see, raise some interesting questions. Who's firing at them with lasers? Loki (or his henchmen) probably wouldn't use those type of weapons.
Why is there a shot of Cap and Thor fighting? Is there another enemy that is not so easy to recognize?
I liked the exchange between Stark and Banner too. (paraphrased)"I love your work...and how you change into this big green rampaging monster" and then Banner stands there sulking.
So yeah, the trailer is basically The Avengers present Tony Stark being awesome--and some intrigueing plots too!
I agree, re: RDJ-as-Stark. He's perfect. I think the Skrull thing isn't "common knowledge" because Marvel is keeping that under wraps (as best they can).

Really?? A great NIN song and you'd rather hear "Bodies" for the zillionth time?

I know, but as Spiraling Shape said, not everyone knows this, or knows the skrulls. So adding a few frames of Cap vs thor might make people more interested.
Of course we don't know the context. They might be testing if his shield is indestructible or something like that.

No, actually, I'd put Batman behind this. I'm worried about the Catwoman deal.
Oh, and I had no idea that the Skrulls were in this. That makes me very happy.

Other than I am bummer we seem to have no giant Man/Wasp team, I dig it. Wasp is just about my favorite character.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Those characters are too comic book-y for a Marvel movie. It'd be like Martian Manhunter being in a JLA movie. Some things just aren't going to translate to a mainstream audience. See the terrible Green Lantern movie as an example.

They have the perfect JLA movie with the first episodes of the JL league cartoon. Green Lantern failed for a number of reasons, being with the aliens was not one of them. If its the Skrulls then either they have this giant reveal one of them is a Skrull like Widow or Thor's Doctor buddy or one of the guys in Cap or they are just another random alien race. I am pretty sure its the Skrulls since the now canned video game has them all over the place or its a fake out for Hydra. I am more curious how they are going to sandwich Loki into this if it is the Skrulls. Skrulls don't like to share.

Funny, the only thing I really liked in the trailer was the choice of Nine Inch Nails "We're In This Together". Which probably won't be in the movie. Everything else I'm underwhelmed by and not sold on, besides Downey's patented Stark snappy patter. But I'm hopeful.

I would argue heavily against that, as the portrayal of the Ant-Man and Wasp on the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon is easily the best portrayal I've ever seen. Now, you don't need to tell me the differences between a cartoon series and a live-action movie, but I don't think that the "mainstream audience" argument holds up here. I doesn't get much more mainstream than Saturday mornings on one of the Disney channels.
Yeah, I would think the Wasp would be a very easy character to translate to the big screen. A snotty, upper-class rich girl who accepts the responsibility of being a superhero and gradually becomes a smart, canny member of the team? This kind of character is right in Joss Whedon's wheelhouse....hell, it basically IS Joss Whedon's wheelhouse.

I don't think they could have started the season better. They came in with action, suspense & the establishment of the core characters. I'm interested in seeing if the teenager gets offed by his won dad.
