I was looking for a thread for The Office's season premiere, but I don't see one.

I like Andy as the new boss and Spader is okay, but I am not sure where we are going with this. Many good jokes with Dwight especially.

They really wound up a bunch of potentially compelling plot points over the summer. Maybe having those play out would have been a nice idea?

I think it'll take a lot for me to stop watching this show, but I'm nervous about this season. An article I read summed it up nicely, there's really no antagonist anymore. The first two and a half seasons were great because it was the office against Michael's incompetence. Heck, even his redemption over the last couple of seasons was interesting.

I kind of expected Robert California to be the new foil, but even he showed some humanity with the "prove me right, prove me wrong" speech. I just don't know who am I rooting for/against for the funnies...

But Kevin screaming "Loser!" at people was pretty funny...

I think Andy as boss was the right decision as far as potential for comedy. I'm really looking forward to Spader as I'm a huge fan (and the "winner/loser" speech is probably the closest we'll get to his famed Boston Legal closings) but I think it'll take the first few episodes for everyone to get comfortable in their (new) roles.

I can't tell how I feel about Jim's little list at the end. That was very hokey but totally something Jim would do, and sweet. I like that Pam even vacillated on just how cute that was.

I think they did a great job establishing Andy as the boss *and* establishing that everyone now accepts him as the boss. His speech to California about the virtues of his so-called "losers" was a great plot device and delivered in pure Andy Bernard style.

By the way, I was reading the EW blog the next day, and browsed through the comments. I was shocked to see a number of people remark on Pam's "troubles" commercial sadness and say THEY CRIED AT IT TOO. Really, people??

I feel like there's another shoe to drop on the office manager thing. If the dynamic now is going to be 'boss is now basically the go-between between the workers and the crazy CEO,' then they might as well have just promoted Jim as the voice of reason at Dunder-Mifflin.

Also, is Andy's reign going to last permanently, or just until Catherine Tate is available?

Kevin really took this one. Calling people loser, and his warning system, great.

The planking gag went over my head, I think.

Andy as boss made the most sense to me; most of Dwight only works if he's not in charge and Darryl's interaction with everybody in the office wouldn't be as funny.

The real tell will be the first episode where you get Jim, Dwight, and Andy all together doing something strange. Also, why is Gabe still there? I thought Jo brought him back to Florida, I guess Robert California brought him back?

I thought this show was really great. The planking stuff was gold to me (especially with Erin), and having Andy be boss is rife with potential. I mean, regardless of the final scenes of Andy getting support, how long until the higher salespeople get fed up with Andy not ever being good at selling things? I loved Andy's little dig at Gabe as well, as it is the new Michael/Toby for this year.

Spader was incredible in this as well. I have to say that his involvement, and this episode the whole way through, has revived my interest in this show.

Supposedly one of the two deleted scenes explains this, though I haven't had time to hunt them down and watch them.

If Andy's the new Michael, it makes sense to keep Gabe around to be his Toby.

Yeah, but Andy is a lot more good natured than Michael was since Anger Management and isn't really the type to hate someone to the degree Michael did Toby.

Here's a link to the deleted scene explaining Gabe being back in Scranton.

The end is awesome, and totally redeems featuring planking on network TV in Sept 2011.

"It's called owling. You'll read about it."

That was way too good to be a deleted scene. Also loved Ryan's chart of the pandemic-like spread of planking.

Miniscule, nitpicky note, but betting on the Cowboys in '78 Super Bowl (after the 1977 season) doesn't seem like it would've paid off too much. The Cowboys were favored over the Broncos in Super Bowl 12. But heck, it shows Sawyer knows his Super Bowls......
