After careful consideration, and monthes and monthes of watching and deliberation, I have decided that the best episode... EVER... of Star Trek is...

In The Pale Moonlight

Why? ... I don't know... it just really had a profound effect on me.

Well, maybe it's not THE best... but it's by far my favorite...

So anyway, what do YOU think is the BEST... EPISODE... EVER?

But just remember that I'm right, and you're wrong. *Grins*

Well, I'm sure CRZ will make fun of me, but the one that I still think about (what 10 years later?) is Inner Light, closely followed by the torture episode with David Warner whose title escapes me.

For just fun episodes, I like the below decks episode and the one where the ship keeps blowing up (tonight's guest star: Kelsey Grammar).

I asked Bobby Dylan, I asked the Beatles.
I asked Timothy Leary, but he couldn't help me either.

"The Seeker," The Who.

1. People who like "The Inner Light" are GAY GAY GAY oh sorry
2. "Chain of Command II?" Total "1984" ripoff but still pretty good. I do like both parts taken as a whole thanks to the Jellicho (sp?) bit
3. "There's Ben! It's Ben, the guy all the senior officers know - and we only see him in this episode!" One of my favourite things to talk about on the old public access show was my fantasy redo of the final scene of "All Good Things..." where Picard is dealing out the cards - he looks at Troi - he looks at Worf - he looks at Crusher - HE LOOKS AT BEN!
4. "Cause and Effect" is definitely Top 3 for me.

I still stand by "Conspiracy" as #1 and the best, but....hey, wait, Ender's talking about TOS, isn't he? Damn.

Eh, the Inner Light wasn't bad. "The Child" was pretty gay, though, as most episodes with extended Troi screentime tend to be.

"Chain of Command" and "Cause and Effect" were great.

What's the title of the episode where Worf kills Duras? I'm a sucker for Klingon episodes, with a few exceptions. (The cloned Kahless thing was kinda gay).

/edit: And the episode where that female admiral accuses the ensign of being a spy. That, and "The Pegasus," had some pretty good Picard scenes.

In the Pale Moonlight was not an episode of Star Trek.

Worf kills Duras in Reunion.

Speaking of Ben, Lower Decks ranks up as one of my favorite episodes no one ever really thinks about in terms of great episodes. Ensign Sito Jaxa was sooo HOT HOT HOT, too.

That's "The Drumhead," and yeah it's pretty good. Actually, most of the "courtroom" TNG eps are pretty good, but I'm still a huge fan of black & white "Perry Mason" so that's probably part of it.
Now that I look it up, you're right! It's a DS9 episode. I guess the reason I didn't pay attention is that there really were so MANY good to great episodes over the final seasons of DS9 that that one doesn't stand out from the others. It *is* a very good episode, but I don't think it's #1 - or even #1 for DS9. I'd really have to go back and check to assemble a list, though - I just haven't had the opportunity to watch DS9 as much as TNG, especially with TNN adding to the saturation point...

Yes, indeed it was an episode of DS9. When I said best episode of Star Trek ever, I meant all the serieses.

Anyway, I tend to agree with you that the last few seasons of DS9 did tend to blend together... but I felt that In The Pale Moonlight really furthured the plot along more than most, and it had some fantastic acting from Brooks, and Robinson.

Maybe I liked it 'cause I was always a huge Garak fan...

Speaking of Garak, he's my favorite character of all time... who's yours? *grins*

Maybe I'm a sucker for DS9... I just kind of liked the idea of the 'Shades of Grey' in the characters more than the black and white we find in the other series's.

I've only seen Conspiracy once a few years ago... maybe I'll take a look at it again, and see how it works. I remember not being a big fan, though... but things can change! ... But probably not.

In fact, almost all of the early TNG episodes really did nothing for me...

I watched Conspiracy last night before I went to sleep... and once again, I wasn't a huge fan of it. It was interesting to see Picard acually kill a lifeform without trying to study it. The ending also could have lead up to something BIG, but I don't recall anything really happening with that...

Anyway, I'm still a BIGGER fan of In The Pale Moonlight. But then again, I'm lame... so don't listen to me.

Psst... Maniacal Clown... Dumar's killing of Ziyel was completely intentional... If you remember, at that time Dumar was the BIG heel. More outright evil than Dukat, anyway. And because Ziyel was a traitor to his people, Dumar felt he had no choise.

And again, we're talking about every series here, not just one...

Personally, I also mark out for Q and the Borg, so my favorites are:

"Encounter at Farpoint"
"The Best of Both Worlds"
"All Good Things..."

I haven't seen them since they first aired, but if we're talking about DS9, I gotta say the Favor the Bold/The Sacrifice of Angels arc from the first third of season 6 was some great stuff. Damar accidentally killing Ziyal was one of the saddest things I've ever seen on Star Trek. Not as sad as the whole Edith Keeler incident, but still.

I really wish Voyager had as consistently good writing as TNG and DS9 had when it comes to the newer shows. Slightly better actors in the lead roles would've been better for the show, too. (*cough*ROBERTBELTRANCAN'TACT*couth*) BUT, if you want to see some CLASSIC science fiction and the one episode of Voyager that stands FAR above the rest, try to catch Blink of an Eye sometime. Beautiful.

My fave will always be Disaster. Lots of great character interaction and drama in that one. I also love Masks, even though I know CRZ hates it. I like the Data episodes mostly, Measure of a Man is another good one.

My favourite characters are mostly on Voyager. I used to hate Voyager, but it gained a lot of steam in the last half of its lifetime. Kes, Neelix and the Doctor were all great characters.

My brother tries to make me watch Star Trek. I greatly dislike it, but occassionally grudgingly accept it. But ONLY The Next Generation.

So we're talking favorite episodes. Figures one of HIS is a Deep Space 9 one (you still can't watch it!!!).

One that really sticks with me is weird. Someone's going crazy (probably Data, he seems to go crazy alot. High time they shut him down before he kills someone...) and they see Worf eating Troy. His line about a mint frosting kills me.

And as much as I like to stand around and pretend not to get it - I actually laughed at CRZ's post of the poker game and subsequent looking at Ben.

And as far as episodes I Never Want To See Again go? That one where Data has a daughter. I've seen it like 4 times in the past year alone. Terrible and pretty unfunny.

Now had Data chosen "a friend for Worf", we might be getting somewhere...

I sit through you watching Friends! YOU can sit through me watching DS9! Besides, DS9 is on far far less...

I thought that would be your favorite episode... yeah, it is Data going crazy. ... Well, not crazy per-say... I think he's just dreaming, if I remember correctly, and I assume I am. I mean, it's not often that other people go crazy!

Though, now that I think of it, my favorite TNG episode is when Riker goes crazy, and is locked in an alien mental hospital. Gold!

And I completely agree with you... the one with Data's daughter has to die!!! I don't think Worf would appreciate having Data's daughter around, though. He'd probably find it offensive, yell a whole lot, and then go and drink prune juice with Guinnan (spl?).

I also really like in the first season in 'Naked Now', I think, where Wesley has that super-drunk deseise, and he takes over the ship using Picard's voice. Picard's reaction is gold! ... Why did Picard have to start liking Wesley? It was so much cooler when he hated him, and yelled whenever he went onto the bridge.

And the worst episode ever? In my humble opinion, the Voyager where Paris passes the Transwarp barrier, and starts 'evolving' really fast into a reptilian-like creature... and then he steals Janeway for no reason other than to have SEX! ... Why doesn't Q do something like that to get Janeway? If Paris can do it...

Troi Cake is in Phantasms.
Data's daughter is The Offspring.
Riker in the mental hospital is Frame of Mind.
Paris broke the transwarp barrier in Threshold.

The worst episode EVER is Voyager's Rise. It's the asteroid one from season 3. GOOD GOD. Almost equally bad was 11:59, the one about some ancestor of Janeway owning a bookstore and refusing to let it be demolished for some stupid building honoring the millenium. BORING.

I must admit to not being much of Star Trek fanatic. I watched a lot of the original (since I was alive when it first aired) and my wife and I watched Voyager religiously. Well, she did and I was in the room most of the time! DS9 and TNG - I have not seen much of either, sad to say.

D'oh! Two of my favorites -- Cause and Effect ("All hands, abandon ship! All hands, aban...") and Chain of Command (THERE...ARE...FOUR...LIGHTS!) have already been mentioned.

I'll also add:

RELICS (home of one of my favorite flubs of all time)
TAPESTRY (Welcome to the afterlife, Jean-Luc. You're DEAD!)
Q-WHO? (Q is made human: this week's guest star: Corben Bernsen)

TOS was an O.K. show. If you look at the time and place it looked O.K. and was fairly new. The characters were good and it had some really good episodes. The show itself didn't have a plot but it didn't really need one.
TNG was really good. The characters were good and showed real development during the series. TNG had some great episodes but needed a bit more direction. The E just kind of went wherever and did whatever. And if the officers were so good how come no one ever got promoted in the 3 years (not seasons) that they all served on the E? B&B really needs someone to check and see if things make sense. Like why did Riker turn down command. I understand why Frakes stayed but Riker was a total moron to turn down command 2 times. That will kill your career in real life.
DS9 was good. Great plot. Every episode moved the plot or characters forward. But that also meant that while the seasons were good there weren't that many kick ass episodes. But the characters were the most believable and interesting.
Voyager sucked. This show needed to tightest plot and had one even weaker than TNG. The characters except for Kes and the Dr. were total cardboard cutouts. And B&B could never come up with a major bad guy until the Borg. While the Borg are cool 1 cube destroyed 60 Fed ships so how does this 1 medium sized ship keep beating them?
Enterprise is good so far. The characters seem O.K. kind of generic but it's the first season so there is plenty of time. Since their job is just to go around and explore they don't need to explain all the random occurences.

Q became human in Deja Q. Q Who was where he introduced us to the Borg.

Enterprise isn't Star Trek, and that's all I have to say about THAT. =)
