These have been thrown around in some other threads, but it's time to make them official and put your prognosticating where everyone can see. This coming weekend brings us:

Eagles at Bears - The dream will live on at least one more week. Anthony Thomas running will be too much for the Eagles defense. He's going to just churn through the cold and kind of soggy turf. Too much Urlacher keeping an eye on McNabb. And too much of AP All-Pro's Ted Washington and Mike Brown (Take That Pro Bowl!) containing Staley and Thrash and Lewis. Bears 27 Eagles 13.

Packers at Rams - As a Bears fan I have been brought up to have a certain disdain for teams that play indoors, as well as having a healthy dose of fear and respect for Brett Favre. These things almost combine to make me think the Pack can spring the upset. But not quite. I don't know if anyone can beat this Rams team, but if anyone can, I don't think the Pack is that team. Packers keep close for a while, but Marshall Faulk just is too much for them at the end. Rams 38, Packers 24.

Ravens at Steelers - This game will be ugly. So ugly that they best check Ray Lewis for weapons before they let him on the field. I think the Steelers are the class of the AFC, and as much as the Ravens can hang with them and play hard defense, Kordell is on a mission to prove himself, and the Steelers D doesn't give up yds the way Miami did. Steelers 24, Ravens 10.

Raiders at Patriots - If any #1 or #2 seed is going to fall this weekend, I would think the Pats are the likely candidate. But I don't think they will. I think Antowain Smith improves on Curtis Martin's 147 total yds from last week, Brady avoids mistakes and the Pats play solid enough defense to hold Rice and Brown in check. Pats win a tight one, and get to advance their miracle year one more week. Patriots 23, Raiders 16.

Philadelphia at Chicago - I hope there's no fog this time, like in the 1988 playoffs. The Bear's defense is strong enough that there really shoudln't be a doubt on this game. BUT, if the Eagles get a freak score or big play to get to an early lead, I wonder how the Bears offense would respond to being down. Bears by 4.

Oakland at New England - The only thing that could be worse, crowd-wise, than the Raiders "black hole" would be a night time playoff game in Foxboro. Which part of the Jeckyl and Hyde Raiders team shows up? I'm thinking that it's the Jeckyl (that would be the mild mannered side). Patriots by 10.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh - Baltimore looked really good this week, but I think Miami quit. If Bettis is healthy, Pittsburgh wins. I don't think he is. And I sure don't want Kris Brown to have anything to do with this outcome. Given the nature of the defenses, he will. Baltimore by 2.

Green Bay at St. Louis - I didn't figure us to get past San Francisco, but Gilbert Brown was a force last week. If he continues to collapse the pocket, maybe a little pressure will thrown Warner off his game. I picked against the Pack last week and it worked, I'll do it again. St. Louis by 13.

I'll go with Bears because, frankly, its my duty.

Rams because the Pack don't have anybody that can keep up with Faulk.

Steelers because they are the complete package this year.

Oakland because they proved me wrong last week.

I'll take the Eagles, because McNabb is a playmaker. And I think the Bears are a very young team who probably wont know how to handle the playoffs and smoothly as the Eagles.

I like the Rasins over Pittsburg, simply from hunger. They have been there, they have won, they know what it takes. That, and Kordell Stewart is a bad mamma jamma.

I like Oakland over the Patriots. Tom Bradey is young, and willprobably be very exited and nervose. That, and Oakland seems to have found thier offense again.

And of course, I'll take the GREEN BAY PACKERS. (Did you expect any less?) They have awesome speed at linebacker, a GREAT corner in Mike Makensie. our secondary recievers (Bradford and Driver) have stepped up huge in the past 4 or 5 games, Aman Green has the same speed as Faulk, with a kick ass O line, and then theres Favre. He's pretty terrible in domes (Except for that one Super Bowl, hehe) so its going to have to be a pretty much perfect game for him. Well, its going to have to be a perfect game for everybody, but I think they can do it. I do feel a lot better going in as underdogs though, cauise if they lose, no one will be suprised. I dont even think I would be, but man, if they win. If they win against a arrogant ass Rams team..well, that would make my year.

Ok, here goes nothing...

EAGLES over Bears, 24-13.

No one is giving the Eagles D any credit for shutting down the Bucs last week. Held them to 3 early field goals. If they had allowed TDs, they would have been out of it. A-Train will get shut down, and force Miller to pass. Not good when the Eagles come off a 4-INT week. The Bears D is great, no doubt, but McNabb seems really on his game. I think his movement is the key.

RAMS over Packers, 38-16

This game will stay close until the end of the second quarter, when the Rams D makes their play and picks Favre off for a TD. 210 mentions the Packers great corner... You need more than 1 against the Rams. The Rams were peaking at the end of the season, no reason it won't continue.

RAIDERS over Patriots, 28-24

I think will be a very close game, with both teams having a chance to win in the 4th. The Raiders on paper are a much better team, and I think they righted the ship against the Jets. If they can keep A. Smith in check, they'll be able to handle Brady. As for their O, they almost looked Ram-ish last week.

STEELERS over Ravens, 27-13

I am not sure this will be as close as everyone thinks. spf mentioned the Steelers D. They will hold the Baltimore running game in check, which the Dolphins could not. This forces Grbac to try and win the game, which this season has not been a good thing. Steelers D scores on an Interception return to add to the Ravens woe....

This leads to 2 beautiful Championship games.

Rams vs Eagles (hope it's as good as the season opened was)
Radiers vs Steelers (best O in the AFC against the best D)

I kind of hope 210 is right about the Packers thing, because if that happens then I can challenge him to some sort of bet regarding what will be the Bears/Packers NFC title game. Since I of course am disregarding the picks for the Eagles/Bears game which invoke the idea of the Eagles somehow advancing, since the rule is no NFC East team in the NFC title game this year.

My pick at the beginning of the year was Raiders vs. Eagles and it's still Raiders vs. Eagles, so that would mean they both win this week.

The other two games? Doesn't matter since they are losing to the Raiders and Eagles in the next round.

I'm game.

The nice thing is, if the Pack lose, its no big deal. No one (Except for me and Sec19row53) expects them to win. It will be so awesome when they win. WHEN they win

"Bettis is healthy, Pittsburgh wins. I don't think he is."

Nah, he's good to go. Bettis could've played 3 weeks ago or even sooner but he's been resting because they wanted him healthy for the playoffs.

So I only went 2-2 last week. But I had the Bucs and Pats in the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season (I'm orginally from NH), so I had to go with Tampa last week. As for the Dolphins, well, I don't know what I was thinking.

So time to screw my head back to correctly and get onto to this week's games:

Saturday:

Chicago over Philly. This appears to be the easiest game to pick, which usually mean upset, but I'll take the safe pick anyway.

Pats over the Raiders. Wow, did Rice look great again last week. But when playing in The NFL's Worst Stadium at night, always take the Pats. They win more times than not for some reason.

Steelers over the Raiders. If Pittsburgh can win in Baltimore without Bettis, imagine what they can do at home with him.

Packers over the Rams. I know, the Rams are amazingly good. But which would you rather see: Bear-Rams inside in St. Louis or Bears-Pack outised in January in Chicago?

AFC:

New England vs. Oakland: I picked Oakland to lose last week, but, then their offense exploded, and I'm liking the chances of that not being a one time thing. Oakland 30, NE 18

Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore: Baltimore is temporarily my favorite team, for knocking the Fins out of the playoffs, but..I don't like to play favorites in picks. Steelers 21, Baltimore 9

NFC:

Chicago vs. Philly: So Philly beat the Bucs. The way they played last week, the Lions could have beat the Bucs. This should be the game to find out whether or not the Bears are as good as their record says they are. I don't think they are, but they're good enough to beat the Eagles. Bears 24, Eagles 22

St. Louis vs. Green Bay: Everything and everyone points to the Rams winning. They should be able to win by at least 10 points. But...I'm an idiot, so I'm picking the Pack. Green Bay 34, St. Louis 27.

New England over Chokeland-24-21 I hate the Raiders.

Da Bears over Philly-20-14 I love Donovan, but I still see Da Bears winning.

St Louis over GB-27-23 I hate to say it, but the Rams move on.

Pittsburgh over Baltimore-23-9 Grbac won't have two decent games in a row. Believe me, I know. I'm a Chiefs fan.

St.Louis over Green Bay. The only way, GB can wins is if the Rams make Brett angery. Brett is a lot like Dr. Bruce Banner if no one goes after him or gives him a cheap shot, he'll play a good game. If he feels that the Rams are taking cheap shots or trash talking, forget about it. He'll turn into the Incrediable Hulk and light St.Louis for 50 points. Still, GB or any team is going to be hard pressed to be the Rams at home in a game of Arena football.

Philly over Chicago. I like the Bears' team, but there has to be an upset and this is it. Philly has a good overall team where Chicago just has a good defense. I say Philly if no other reason, that there will be an upset.

New England over Oakland. This will be a close game. Oakland has no serious defense in the last few games which shocks me. The Pats have a good team and should play them tight. This is the game where it could go either way.

Pittsburgh over Baltimore. I am a Steelers' fan and they will only, because the fans will burn the stadium down if they don't. We, Pittsburgh fans, hate talkers, so we really hate the Ravens. Plus, Deilfer is going to have past more than twice, so there is an automatic turnover right there. Ravens will keep it close, because the Steelers can't close the door on teams, but they will this time, because they want to be the ones that dethrone the Ravens. I will say I could see the Steelers losing this game, cause I opened my mouth on my Philly friends yesterday. Karma is a bitch.

A Fan- Man, I hope all these games end before the Rumble.

Here we go... I was 4-0 last week (just ask my wife, she only went 1-3)

Bears 24 Eagles 14 ... Bears running attack is the difference, as the Eagles have trouble with teams that run up the middle

Raiders 21 Patriots 10 ... It's midnight, New England...

Pittsburgh 13 Baltimore 10 ... Figure Elvis for 3 interceptions here...

Rams 31 Packers 21 ... Not enough defense for the Pack...

Heh, I like that idea actually. When the Bears win this weekend, and should the Pack somehow through the aid of divine intervention get to the NFC title game, you're on.

I'm truly bad at this, but here goes anyway:

Bears over Eagles - defense plus just enough offense worked for Baltimore last year, and it's working for Chicago now. (Sec19Row53 - if you're wondering how the Bears react to being down, why don't you ask DB Mike Brown?)

Raiders over Patriots - the Raiders simply have too many quality players to let the new Brady Bunch beat them.

Steelers over Ravens - good Steeler offense countered by good Ravens defense; good Steeler defense countered by...uhh...

*and of course*

Packers over Rams - The Rams manage to trigger Favre's "evil genius" gene, and he spreads the Rams all over the turf.

Mind you, I'm obligated by state law to cheer for the Pack. I believe that it was written into my last lease .

Steph

The bye is such a critical aspect in Football. 2 full weeks to rest and prepare is huge. Without pulling up the sample sizes, I know I've read that teams coming off a bye fare dramatically better than those who are not.
