He's wrestled exclusively in four-star PPV world title matches in 2011. Personally I would've thrown him a couple pins, but this is [was :(] the biggest run of his career. Perfect time to jump to the flatlining televised indy where starpower goes to die.

Yeah dawg Ross is so overexposed.

Ended up being a good show after an hour that was not exactly befitting the biggest party of the summer. Thought Christian/Orton was awesome. D-Bryan probably should've won since he lost clean on Friday in like 3 minutes, even if it's the start of a program.

Not exactly dying to see Punk wrestle MAH BIG HOMIE but I thought it was a creative way to delay his match with Triple H and draw out the turn. This month I'd guess we'll get a Cena/Punk/Bert threeway though.

Didn't watch the show as I'm only into the main event scene and that ain't worth $45. The Nash thing isn't the end of the world and does set up some good angles with his connection to HHH.

Still, I agree with Boromir. They sacrificed their hottest angle for Summerslam. They should have just booked the tourney finals of Rey Vs Cena as that main event and cut their losses. Frankly, if their two hottest merch sellers couldn't pop a good buyrate, then the company needs to work even HARDER on new faces. You could've even had Punk show up at SS to satisfy everyone and have him telegraph it through twitter.

But they wanted the Summerslam buy. Punk is still hot, but now he's in "just another angle" and not the next nwo or Austin Vs McMahon.

And did you forget the parts where Edge said he was proud of Christian for winning the title, no one deserved to be champion more than him, he loved him and they would be best friends until the day he dies? The point of that promo wasn't to bury Christian, it was to bury his actions as of late.

He's been one of the top two guys in Smackdown since Wrestlemania, and is on the biggest push of his career. Granted, it's him weaseling around and whining and crying (except for the first month or so), but he's good at that character. And if you want to see him as a tough, brave, noble, face champion, that went on for about a year on ECW, so at least this is something different.

Couldn't have said it better.

And COME ANNN, they did not blow their hottest angle for SummerSlam guys.

The fact that all of us here (and we are SO SMARKY) are actually like, "oh shit what's gonna happen next?" proves that they are handling this thing correctly.

Are they going to Mexico? Yes. Is ADR Mexican? Yes. NYOHMYGOD CONSPIRACY! Yeah, a conspiracy to do/ruin what exactly?

Imagine that, a storyline where there is actual suspense sorrounding the WWE Title... no, no Boromir is right; WWE blew it by not leaving the belt on Punk. Because that's what makes Punk compelling, the fact that he's the champ.

Separating the Finish I Wanted (Punk cleanly defeats Cena, is Undisputed WWE Champion, is now recognized as The Number One Man in WWE) and the Finish(es) We Got is a little tough, for me at least.

Looking at the big picture, the situation now with Alberto as WWE Champion does have some advantages to it. Yes, it's compelling, and it has the virtue of We Don't Know What Will Happen Next. It also opens up the avenues of Punk and Cena as the two top babyfaces on RAW, which is a neat have your cake and eat it too (what's with me and cake today?) solution in that if Cena and Punk are the two top faces, then you have a top face for the kids to cheer (Cena) and a top face for the surly, "smart", disenfranchised adults to root for (Punk). Hot shotting the belt to Del Rio via MITB cash in has been telegraphed on the fringes as the Punk-Cena thing was happening on the forefront.

Still didn't like how Summerslam ended and as a paying customer, I would have preferred the simpler story of Finish I Wanted, but this could go a handful of interesting directions. At least, I hope so. Otherwise, RAW Creative just put the WWE Championship on four different men over the last five weeks (and counting), to the benefit of... whom and what?

The point was to throw completely random names in there of people that could kill a live audience. Dwayne Gill would probably get zero reaction and X-Pac sucks. No mater who is in that ring, the internet wrestling community will continue watching the WWE until there isn't a show to watch, and then they'll watch old tapes and bitch about those. No mater what this company does, it's never going to be what you want it to be.

Your mistake is in thinking that the WWE belts actually 'mean anything.' They don't. They're just marketing tools. I thought this was obvious way back when they introduced this...

Then they went and gave us this...

These belts mean shit. You know Wrestlemania, the biggest show of the year for wrestling. Remember how for the past three or four years, the main focus of selling the show was about winning the WWE titles? I don't, all I remember is them pushing The Undertaker's streak as the most important part of the show. I remember how Smackdown and Raw sold the hell out of Undertaker/Michaels 1 and 2 and Undertaker/HHH more then their own shows title matches.

EDIT: Thanks, I was just doing that myself. I blame the drugs I am on.

I am with Johnny O here, this is not "Oh, what will happen next?" territory as it is "Why do you go with the most unoriginal ending?' We all knew that at some point ADR was going to cash it in, hell they even previewed it at the last PPV. They basically redid the main event of the last PPV and added the ADR ending with a sprinkle of Kevin Nash. The added the mystery of who Kevin Nash is working for does not outweigh the suck of a more Cliq and Steph on my tv.

I also have to ask the question is ADR a compelling champion? It is too early to tell, but I don't see it. I just see him as another JBL who will either face Cena all fall or be feed people I'd rather see champion then inadvertently change people to face. He is a better work than Bradshaw and could be good, but he has faced Rey a hundred times now, people are bored with Cena and Morrison until yesterday was getting jobbed out. Yes, Punk could be the ultimate face in this, but I don't see them giving him the belt back and also ignoring Cena.

Live from Los Angeles ...

Great time being there live. Totally sold out building, up to the rafters on all sides. Crowd practicing coordinated "We hate Cena" / "Cena sucks" / "Let's go Cena" chants well before the show started.

Dark opening match had Dolph Ziggler with Vicki defeating Alex Riley. The crowd was so psyched for the show, that RIley actually got cheers!

People were buying the "WWE radio" thingies, so you could listen to announcers commentary feed in the arena. I had seen via wrestlingdb that they were going to be doing this, but never got an email announcement from WWE. Personally, I prefer not having to listen to most of the commentary.

Cool surprise to have Al Jones doing the national anthem. Better yet, he was there for the show! Stayed for the whole thing, & took his commemorative folding chair home with him!

No mention of Miz' giant inflatable "AWESOME" soft sculpture? It took a few minutes to get set up, & we were wondering what it was going to turn into, There were a couple of "inhabitants" to it as well -- couple of guys (?) in all white leotards out there to wrangle it. Kinda looked like they were inside the inflatable part. Silly, but actually kind of ... awesome. :-)

I hadn't heard about the 6-man tag team match before it happened, so that was a surprise. (Good to see that those guys all get some SS PPV payout.) Really fun, entertaining way to start the show. Crowd was psyched, & a good, fast, fun match, with Rey winning, was a great start.

Part of the problem with Laurinitas' voice is that you can't understand a word he's saying in the arena. Innnnteresting to see Steph on TV. Love how Punk isn't trusting anybody in management. Was it this exchange where Steph was saying something that amounted to "don't underestimate me"? It was really hard to hear in the arena -- the harmony of "Cena sucks" & "CM Punk" chants were drowning out a lot of that audio.

Sheamus did a magnificent job getting a watchable match out of Mark Henry, & I don't think he even got (legit) damaged in the process!! My favourite thing in the match: Sheamus went ahead & dragged himself all the way back into the ring, even though the count had expired. Something about that "I'm getting back in there, even though it's too late" was the kind of little thing that solidifies his face-ness.

Cee-Lo Green. However it's spelled. Don't care. Some of the crowd was into it. For me, it just reminded me of Eric Young about a month ago "mistaking" D'Lo Brown for Cee-Lo Green.

Kelly-Kelly is not a good worker. Beth was doing her best to drag a match out of her, but there's only so much Beth could do. Lame finish.

Couldn't tell whether Steph was leaving Cena's locker room, or by-passing Cena's dressing room.

"Little Jimmy" business was cute. Word in the arena was that that was Ron Artest off to the side of that bit?

Wade Barrett vs Daniel Bryan wasn't a big fave of mine. I wasn't buying a lot of the Bryan offence that Barrett was selling for. At least in my section, the crowd was kinda disinterested, & submission wrestling is not something that will pull us back in. I don't need Bryan to get buried, but Barrett is a lot bigger, & they have to run a certain amount of "plucky underdog". Where I was, Barrett was getting more cheers than boos, & definitely more response than Bryan was getting.

Weren't we all expecting Christian to bring out his best friend Edge? And it was still awesome to see him! :-) The Christian-bashing was beautifully done. It really brought up the Christian-lovers' desire to see Christian to get a real, clean win. This match was excellent, & indeed did steal the show. There was a "we want tables" chant at exactly the correct moment. Also a bit of an "E-C-W" chant as Randy was tossing garbage cans & kendo sticks into the ring. Crowd was massively into this whole thing, & really, match of the night! I would have loved to see Christian retain clean, but the match was so good, it was OK.

To say that this was not a pro-Cena crowd would be putting it mildly. The only tricky thing was whether it was a pro-Punk crowd, or an anti-Cena crowd. One of the unfortunate bits of "Cena sucks" & "CM Punk" sounding so much alike is that they're often both happening at once, & it's tough to tell which of those 2 is winning. Punk continues to enjoy the hell out of the love he's getting, which is very cool to see. The match itself was very, very good. Lots of emotion, & the crowd all over everything. Cena trying to get in a bit more variety in his work helps with the "You can't wrestle" chants. Loved that HHH wasn't about to let the match end on a double countout, & tossed them both back in.

From where I was, it looked like a clean finish; reading on here that it was questionable is disappointing. The Diesel runin was quite bizarre, but an interesting development!

And then we had the ADR cash-in. There is or is not a rule that the champion has to be able to actually answer the bell?? As important a plot device as this whole MITB thing is, they really have to firm up these rules! Personally, I'm voting for ADR having hired Diesel directly to make the opportunity for ADR to cash in. As the Kevin Nash character, he's regularly said that he's just in it for the money, although I don't know whether that applies equally to the Diesel character. (BTW, why the Diesel character? I'd really prefer the Kevin character. Perhaps we'll find out tonight.)

Gotta go drive to San Diego now! Should be an interesting show tonight!!

To the "You will watch ANYTHING" sentiment:

I will always have some degree of interest in wrestling, but that doesn't mean I'll always pay money. I automatically DVR Raw and Impact but when the product get bad I fast forward through the shows (with Impact I haven't even bothered to do that the last two weeks).

I bought Destination X, but I am not even going to a house show 30 minutes away because they've done nothing to follow up (and have gotten even worse with the Angle turn).

So I don't really get this, "Ignore the smarks because they are addicts" mentality.

Sure there will always be some people to watch anything, but I can't agree that WWE can do anything and everyone on here will continue to watch. Plenty of people (including me) actually did stop watching WWE and just got pulled back in because of this whole CM Punk storyline.

Also, the belts have to mean something dude. I know they "really" dont, but nobody is really competing either; so yeah, you have to sell the belts to the audience as something that's important.

Interestingly, I also really agree with Johnny O. A lot of you here wanted CM Punk to win the belt, but the way that things unfolded instead does leave openings for interesting storytelling as well.

Also the whole ending of SummerSlam wasnt a sprinkle, it was a glaze. The fact is nobody here right now can be sure of what will happen next and you will tune in to watch RAW tonight (I neva do). I will tune in to watch RAW tonight. Hence SummerSlam was what? A success, ladies and gentlemen.

You can (and probably will) continue to think that this one - no, wait, this one ... or maybe this one - is the Big One that's finally going to do his business in, but I'm going to continue guessing "no."

Yeah. I remember back in 2002 when Eric Bischoff was brought in as the general manager of RAW. There was a RAW recapper who'd been doing it for a couple years, who quite literally stopped recapping in protest the moment Bischoff was announced as the GM. Just took his ball and went home, in mid-recap, and didn't pick it up again.

I know, it really makes the guy who predicted the world would end in May, no wait, now October seem reasonable by comparison...

Sheesh. Granted, the man was long winded in his opinion, but he's entitled to it. And you can't 'shock' the pessimism out of a pessimist by telling them to stop being so pessimistic. Seeing the glass as half empty is a fine indicator that you should consider refilling it at some time.

I do disagree with this being shortsighted, however. CM Punk can not hold the belt; being 'screwed' not only helps to legitimize him as a face but also gives him his quest; chasing not only the belt but doing so on his own terms. ADR mugging him for the title was telegraphed by Money in The Bank, the means of doing so on the heels of a beatdown from a well known Kevin Nash being that little twist we needed.

The way I see it, things are just picking up.

Picking a nit, but Rey already works "Plucky Underdog" to perfection, and Evan Bourne generally works that style as well. You can only have so many guys doing that. I personally liked the match because it was different. Submission wrestling isn't for everyone, but that's the age-old adage of the "three-ring circus" approach to wrestling. Different things for different fans. Some high flying (six man), your girl match (Beth/KK), your gimmick match (Orton/Christian), your dramatic main event (Cena/Punk). Plus, if Barrett got cheers it didn't come across on TV...Every time I watch him I feel like I'm watching a jar of mayonaise come to life. Why people find him charismatic is beyond me. Everyone with a British accent isn't interesting.

Good show. I won't bitch about the booking of the main event, but I would like to say a hearty fuck you to WWE for the commercials. Nothing quite like increasing the price of your shows by a hundred and twenty five percent since the Attitude Era and then making people sit through Twix commercials and shitty movie trailers. At least when they're hocking their own shit I kind of understand it. So many options to get these shows free...Don't give people any more of a reason, geniuses.

The time to do the ADR title run is now, so I get them on that. You can't damage him permanently by having his cash-in fail. He's an honest-to-God Mexican, not a Chicano, but a real live Mexican, and they're over huge in that market. And once you get to Survivor Series, Rock/Cena has to start to take on a definite shape, and by then, presumably, we're looking at Punk/HHH also. It makes way more sense to hot-shot the belt now than to wait until pre-Mania season or Mania season.

Nash on the mic needs to not happen. There's really no point to him being a cool dude who buries people on the mic when it can't lead to a decent match. Plus if it crosses a line that exists only in Nash's head, he'll do a drunken shoot interview about it saying how he could totally kick your ass if he really wanted to and you never got paid.

I don't really see why people think that Nash getting a mic segment is a bad thing. What's to say Punk won't obliterate him on the mic? I think Punk could more than defend himself in a verbal debate.

With all the inevitable wacky tag-team partners who don't like each other but learn to respect one another shenanigans between the two. But wouldn't Punk co-existing with Cena be seen as him selling out to the man?

Anyway, my hope is that this will all lead into Punk/Cena vs ADR/Nash which then becomes the Megapowers vs. the Megabucks for the 21st century.
