It was just a year ago too that she returned from a long recovery from injury and they brought her back like a house of fire. Alicia Fox was Divas Champion and Melina got to beat her for the title at Summerslam in her home town (a match so legengary, it inspired that woman from Tough Enough as the match that made her want to become a WWE Diva). Then a month later - this was months before WrestleMania and that stuff with Snooki and Trish "taking her spot" - Melina totally and immediately cooled off and dropped the Divas Title to Michelle McCool when the Divas and Women's Titles were unified. In hindsight, it seems like the belt was taken off A. Fox and put on Melina just so it would be a babyface McCool beat when she unified the titles. That was pretty much it for Melina doing anything of note until her release.

Man, is Ryder's dad going to be devastated. But then after the temper tantrum she threw about the Snookie match at Wrestlemania, you pretty much could see the writing on the wall with her.

For some reason, I think I remember Mick Foley saying in one of his books how nice she was. It would be around the time he feuded with Flair and she was involved, so 2006? Plenty of time to turn bitch though, I suppose. She has been so irrelevant for so long, she will hardly be missed. Same goes for Gail Kim, which is really a shame. Gail is too talented to simply fill out the roster for a battle royal.

They were. I think it was mentioned already (though maybe not in this thread) that Gail actually rolled out of the ring and eliminated herself. She acknowledged on Twitter that she was told to go out really quick (surely the same with Melina), so she did, and no one appeared to notice. Gail quitting on Monday probably just saved WWE some time.
Kozlov and Masters are gone? Won't someone think of the neverending current season of NXT??? (Incidentally, do they even HAVE any Pros left on that show?) Remember when Kozlov debuted and he was immediately shot into the main event? How laughable is that in retrospect?
Melina getting released isn't a shock. It's going to be really interesting to watch John Morrison in the next few weeks. Between the way his return is being handled (still winless!), the lack of a payoff for his hard work at the Rumble and Elimination Chamber, and now his real life girlfriend getting sent to the unemployment line, let's see if he can either pull through like a trooper or start phoning it in from here on out. (Guess which option is more likely.)
Gail Kim went from headlining TNA's Knockouts division and main eventing a Monday night show (to some decent ratings, all things considered) to going to the E and...doing nothing. It's not hard to see where she's going now. As much as I've been frustrated with TNA's current product, I'm all in on a Mickie/Gail feud!
Happy trails, David Hart Smith! Man, that Hart Dynasty breakup did wonders for both of those guys, didn't it? It's so sad that the moment that this breakup happened, I knew both guys were utterly dead in the water.
Melina was inevitable, though I do wonder why she didn't just quit and save herself the indignity of being fired WWE. You've gotta figure you have way more political capital to eventually return if you do it that way. Cena recently predicted MVP will be back someday. I can't imagine why anyone who can see it coming doesn't bail. Vince McMahon wanted an incest angle with his daughter. If the writing's on the wall, just tell yourself that about ten times and see if you won't quit.
David Hart Smith really is a good worker, but that clearly means nothing in 2011 in WWE. He's one of the few, I think, who could probably get work in Japan. Lack of charisma notwithstanding, he could return. I'd make the same argument for Haas and Benjamin. Sooner or later they need to realize someone who can actually wrestle needs to work with your Barretts, Zekes, Slaters, etc. to take them to the next level.

Not really, they seem like the kind of guys who just keep their heads down backstage and are willing to take minimal pay so they don't have to bum around the Indys even if they aren't happy they're not getting TV time. WWE always needs those kinds of guys, so they're safe for now.
Masters had really improved the past year or so, especially after he shed most of the steroid weight, but he'd lost so much capitol after his first run that this one was doomed to failure. Oh well, next time, Chris.
Vlad had the look and the demenear to be a solid longtime mid-card guy, but I get the feeling he was probably too expensive to keep around for a guy who would never go anywhere, and he's still nothing special in the ring.
That's almost 1/2 the Roster of "Superstars". While I feel bad for anyone who loses their job, most of these people weren't really being used on real TV anyway and in the long run the ones who keep wrestling will work the indy's as "former WWE Superstars" which usually tends to put a few more fans in the seats and dollars in their pocket. I am actually glad for Gail Kim (my favorite wrestler) because She is a happy person now and just going to live her life on her own terms. Even though it can be baffling that the truly talented are often let go while the lesser workers stay on, the upside to every round of releases is that it gives a chance for everyone left to elevate themselves and makes room to bring in new talent.

Nah, Kozlov was saddled with a horrible gimmick, he really wasn't that bad for a big man.
What the...? Where has THIS Kozlov been this whole time? The only time I saw Kozlov show any kind of personality was when he and Santino did that tea party skit with Sheamus. So now that the guy suddenly shows an iota of charisma, they let him go? Unbelievable.

Possibly people in the WWE started looking down upon her once she started cheating on Morrison with her banging Batista. Even Morrison lost alot of respect in the locker room for not smashing Batista in the face.

I guess the releases of Koslov and Masters mean that Zack Ryder is the closest thing Santino Marella's got to a regular tag-team partner. (In addition to a quickie loss to Otunga/McGillicutty on one of the A-shows-- RAW, I think-- those two got a win over New Nexus on Superstars a couple weeks back).

I think we had a thread about this on the board already, but while Morrison might've gained respect by fighting Batista, he also might've gotten himself fired for sparring with a main eventer.

Morrison was in a no win situation with the Batista/Melina thing. If does nothing, he looks like less of a man. If he attacks Batista or even gets up in his face, Batista just cries to his best bud, HHH to get him canned. Booker T got jobbed out to Batista after their real life fight. His course of action should have been to dump Melina and move on. Yet, he seems pretty in love with the chick for reasons unknown to me, so its an easier said then done thing.
