And there was that weird moment when Cole was talking up Del Rio and drifted to Lawler and his Memphis mansions. Lawler seemed unsteady and directed the comments back to the match.
That's unlike Jerry, and I blame Cole for being so scattershot that even a mic expert like Lawler is disrupted. I think Cole's core of selling the product is lost among these spontaneous tangents that grow beyond his control.

Meltzer on the F4W board mentioned that Punk asks Jericho for advice, so don't read a lot into this.
I think part of the problem I have with Cole - and I don't mind his heel stuff, don't get me wrong - is that he's so inconsistent. He's coming off as a heel to characters one moment but then turning around and being the play-by-play type of shill, when it comes to announcing a promotion or talking about something. It's just off putting to the character - you don't really know where he is coming from. I'm sure that that is not all his fault and he's being told to do that stuff, but I wish they would either let him be a full time heel and just let Lawler or JR do all the promotional stuff.
In a way, I'd love for them to move Josh Matthews into a play-by-play spot and have Cole be more of that Heenan style heel colour guy with JR being the veteran PBP person that can help Matthews grow. Then move Lawler over to Smackdown so he can work with Booker and Scott Stanford - then you have plenty of work being done to groom new commentators (while working with veterans) and also let Cole be a full on heel.

Not to mention the awkward "I wish your parents had never met"/"Let's not get talking about parents again...."/Uncomfortable pause between Lawler and Cole. It's still absurd that these guys were in a blood feud for months and it was just swept under the rug after Lawler won the blowoff match.
What about when Cole claimed that Lawler talking about Persian rugs was an "outdated reference" (seriously?) ... which he immediately followed up by making a joke about the Jamaican bobsled team!

HHH's "skinny fat ass" remark was interesting...it either goes two ways.
1. HHH got a bit miffed and flubbed his lines.
2. HHH was selling that he got so many he tripped up his wording.
Don't have any problem with how the face off came off, but it was a good point that everyone is trying to stay "cool". Somebody is gonna have to show ass whether it is Cena or HHH.
Remember when Michael Cole was burying Daniel Bryan week after week? That's how they should get your Zack Ryder over with the crowd. Hearing Cole rip into Ryder last night made Ryder look like someone to watch, not just some goof who comes and and does a catch phrase. Cole really does need to rein it in some. As a fellow Cole-miner, I agree with John O. I still think Vince is in the back telling Cole what to say half the time and I blame it on him though.
Cena had more people on his side last night at the end of the show. Just because YOU, meaning people on the internet like almost everyone on this site and on other wrestling sites, are sick of John Cena doesn't mean everyone else is sick of him. Further proof of how the internet doesn't matter.

It's a safe bet that every time Cole butts in, it's Vince pulling his string and telling him what to say because he gets off on needling Ross and on bickering announcers in general. With Cole out there, he no longer needs to shout in Ross's headset when he freaks out about the smallest thing he says ("doing radio!"), he just has Cole say it on the air.

I believe skinnyfat is also a bodybuilding term for someone who is thin but still flabby.

This would be a great point about those computer people if Cena wasn't booed by 50+% of the audience in 90+% of the cities. The Internet's mistake is deluding themselves that Cena doesn't have value on top, when that strong emotional reaction to him is what has made both the Rock and Punk programs that carried business this year tick.

So did the pro-Punk crowds in Boston, Chicago, Green Bay prove the internet does matter in those towns?

One of those cities might have a slight bias towards Punk.

Of course it does. But this is an argument that always pops up, but in order to be at all valid has to ignore any crowd reaction that doesn't fit into the mold. Whether because it is the wrong country, or a guy's hometown, or a "smart city" or whatever. Any reaction that doesn't mesh with the whole "only a few booger-eaters in their mom's basements read the internet and everyone else loves Cena" gets ignored which, as Justin points out, is ludicrous since Cena gets booed by 1/2 the crowd in every town.
FWIW, I think that 90% of the IWC is sick of Cena the gimmick, no Cena the performer. I don't even care if the guy stays face if he would just stop with the blatant fan ass kissing.
Edited for correctness which I admit I should have done before posting but You guys caught it before I had the chance to.
On NWA World Championship Wrestling waaay back in like the early '90's Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas were "The Dynamic Dudes" and they came to the ring on skateboards. it was as horrible as it sounds.
Drew McIntyre update, He will be at FCW in Punta Gorda Wed. night for autograph signing.
Raw Rant...
I hate the Michael Cole character too. He either needs to either calm down or just go away. I'm really not sure what they think He is accomplishing in the role other than getting #shutitcole trending on twitter or getting the internet hate off of Lawler.
And I think Punk lost his steam by officially coming back so soon. He could have milked the whole crashing thing and calling Cena a paper champion in an epic month long build-up to SummerSlam. Let HHH make some "bad" or "wrong" decisions that would incite further ridicule against the entire WWE system and prove that HHH is not better than Vince and that the status quo is being maintained.
The main problem with trying to rehash the ROH program is that in this case there is no bigger company to go to. He could go to a BETTER company but it would be an indy that in the eyes of the WWE Universe either doesn't matter or doesn't exist at all. It would be cool for those like us who know and follow those promotions but would go over the heads of 75% of the audience. The Wrestling business is like beer. WWE is Budweiser and ROH is a microbrew. While I don't personally care for the Bud/Miller/Coors style alot more people drink those than Stone/Anchor/Firestone and the like. WWE is probably actually afraid of improving the product too much in that it might alienate the target audience that is generating their revenue. People are stupid and like to be force fed crap (just listen to the radio or notice how many Taco Bells there are around) and like it or not Vince McMahon knows this and crafts his business plan around it. His ultimate goal is to be the sports entertainment Brawndo for the idiocracy.

Am I supposed to know Johnny Ace and his skateboard? I have no memory of him, but maybe because I only watch WWF/WWE.

The Dynamic Dudes. And it was Shane Douglas. And it was in the NWA promoted by Jim Crockett about a year before they became WCW.

They were neither dynamic nor radical.

Did you really just use a beer analogy explaining a CM Punk storyline?

The only positive part of Steph's promo to start was to point out that while Angle selected JJ for #5, Smackdown was able to get Cena. After that I kind of tune her out. I can't help but think that Heyman deserves a lot of credit for us getting Brock/AJ....
