Love this. Coolest thing they've done in years. Hope they cover it on RAW. It's like Punk said on RAW. Vince loves to do things that have never been done before. This qualifies. I wouldn't shoot an angle every year at Comicon, and in any other instance it would smack of being a work, but here, with the right personalities in front of the right audience, it clicked big time. Keeping this angle simmering. One can only hope Punk will crash Linda's next Senate run announcement.

They definitely should NOT show this on RAW. They need to let this thing go viral. Use every media BUT WWE TV. Twitter, appearances on other shows, Comicon, Ring of Honor. Maybe have Cole or Lawler allude to Punk causing a scene, but not being specific.

I'd go as far as to have WWE shut down Youtube videos or pics that have Punk with the WWE title in them.

Unless HHH was holding a title during that time (and he wasn't), that's about as ironic as rain on your wedding day.

Really loved the whole crashing the Comic Con thing, especially because Punk being at Comic Con is something that everyone knows would actually happen, WWE panel or no WWE panel.

He nailed it on why I miss ECW, but he missed on the ECW theme 'Enter Sandman' was great, but was it really better than what ECW did with 'Natural Born Killers'?

Better to try to insult him (wouldn't you?) than if he goes "you've been erased from continuity. Move along"

The best thing that Hunter said though was that if Punk wanted to (re)negotiate, the door was open due to new management.

But yeah, I agree with everyone. This is pure genius.
Earlier in the day I said to a friend that Punk was probably happy that he has time off so he can be a comic-con geek, and he could pose with the cobra commander.

I don't think anyone expected something like that, and it keeps the angle/memory fresh.

In a by-gone thread, it was said that the keys to a great wrestling shirt are the simplicity of its design and the exclusivity of its message. For example, people said the Austin 3:16 shirt worked so well because it could be worn in public and didn't require that much explanation.

I think Punk's lightning fist design will work really well toward that end, eventually. T-shirts, stickers on street signs, and spray-painted images on the pavement.

I also think for all of this to come together like I'm sure WWE would like it to, it's necessary to change the format of the show. I'm not sure how well all that, "Wait, why is Dolph Ziggler so surprised Teddy Long put him in a match with Kane? Wasn't he watching that conversation somewhere?"-stuff won't translate to a growing casual audience.

This is all serious business.

Thank you for pointing out the flaw there. I wanted to as well but you beat me too it.

I also agree that this should NOT be mention on WWE other than maybe having someone make allusions to it but not actually saying CM Punk, maybe say somethign liek 'some guy who thinks he's the champion' or something along those lines.

I do like that Hunter continued witht he 'new management' bit and said the door was open. And I loved CM Punk's retort of 'Steph has my number' more on the level of 'I'm not calling you guys you can call me' than on the 'he he he I'm alluding to sexual indisecretion on the part of your wife'

I think if the do enough of these 'CM Punk intereupts public WWE function' rather than CM Punk crashes RAW it's alot more believeable and keeps RAW as a must see. Maybe have Punk crash one RAW in a couple if weeks and then not again for a month or something.

Loosie.

I don't remember WWE ever having a panel at Comic-Con before. It almost seems like they had one for the sole purpose of doing this bit.

That said, it was still awesome.

Punk having front row seats for SummerSlam would b a pretty good progression of the story.

Punk and Colt Cabana in the front row at Summerslam surely would be all kinds of awesome, I have to agree. I would then let them leave during Triple H's match, in the course of which they did chant "Boring!" and "You can't wrestle!" most of the time.

They had one last year. Miz showed up. It's actually a WWE/Mattel panel which makes sense since 2010 is when Mattel took over the WWE toy license.

The lightning fist icon/image is what's going to push this over the edge. One thing about high school kids is that they like drawing on and in their books and notebooks (as an aside, do kids still cover their textbooks with brown paper bags?). Hulk Rules/Hulkamania, Austin 3:16 and the nWo all lacked iconic images. I think this is important.

I remember them sending Ted Dibiase (Jr.) to Comic-Con last year or maybe before to walk around and interview people.

I think what needs to happen is Punk turns up on Monday with his front row tickets (conveniently located behind the time keeper position) after the main event begins and the new WWE title is unveiled. Prior to the close of the match, he reaches over and grabs what is his, the WWE title and takes off with the new belt. He has not been "stripped" of the WWE title, so in theory, any new belt would rightfully be his. Then he could parade both belts around as HHH gives up trying to crown an illegitimate champion and tries to entice Punk to return throughout the next month or two. Punk doesn't need a live mic at any WWE event... he can go on Twitter and Youtube and let it play out from there.

That would be pretty hilarious...but I still think he needs to stay off of WWE programming until at least Summerslam.

Random Thought: I think it would make the internet explode if we get a Cabana/Ryder tag team out of this down the line.

a) "I'm sure Stephanie has my phone number" only implies sexual innuendo to a room full of Comic Con attendees. (Not hatin' on the geeks -- jus' sayin'.)

b) Zack Ryder has to be shitting himself. This might be the best thing that ever happened to him, but more likely, gets him future endeavoured. (Which might be the second best thing that ever happened to him.)

c) Nobody else finds it interesting that it's @HeymanHustle whom Punk retweeted with the first photos of Punk at the panel ?

d) I'm curious about the logistics of the several security-type guys & better-than-iPhone-quality camera operator that Punk had with him in the longer video (youtube.com).

e) This is awesome!

f) Colt Cabana is CM Punk's house sitter?

Yeah, I was going to say that the footage of him being let in by some flunky really hurt my suspension of belief. I wish the video started from inside the room, and suddenly he's talking on the megaphone.
