Rey suffers from many of the same issues as Cena, as an always valiant super heroic do-gooder for the kids to look up to. That Chicago crowd looked like a rebellious, anti-establishment, "smart", neo-ECW-type crowd made up of a host of adult males there to see CM Punk. It wasn't a night, time or place for white hat hero types.

I think they ruined the Rey character back during the lame duck title run and he's never recovered.

Up to and including the Royal Rumble he was hella over as the guy who had the best matches. He was so over that they basically had to put the title on him.

But then they had to half arse it. Rey stupidly lost his shot to Orton and whinged to get it back. The whole Eddie's down there muddying the water in what should have been a lay down angle. Never getting a win that mattered while he had the title. Removing 'heavyweight' from the title. The E didn't get behind him and the crowd smelt that and turned on him too. And he's not been the same since.

If anyone's wondering where the WWE Championship spinner belt is today, CM Punk showed us in a Tweet this morning:

I'll be watching the whole show later today, but someone uploaded the Cena/Punk match to youtube. For those who haven't seen the show yet I HIGHLY recommend checking it out.

That match was INCREDIBLE. And if this was like the Nexus redux (Punk's initial promo a couple of weeks back was compared to it), it shows because they're doing this one right.

I don't have a DVR and I won't be able to see the whole RAW tonight. I now have a sad.

I really liked the touch of Cena taking off his shirt and throwing it directly at the guys holding the "If Cena wins, we riot" sign. This prompted a big "throw it back" chant where I was watching. That would have been such a moment if he got hit with his own shirt.

Strange to see the whole internet wrestling community so unanimously praise something and crazy that so many sites crashed last night from so much traffic.

Punk has Red Bull in his fridge. I guess straight edge doesn't include potent energy drinks.

He drinks Pepsi, which has caffeine in it. I don't see how Red Bull would be any different than that.

So, seriously, is July the greatest wrestling month ever? They should put out a July anthology on DVD. It would have the complete Bash '89, Canadian Stampede '97, Invasion '01, Vengeance '03 and MitB '11.

The extras would include (just from WWE PPV):
HBK-Jarrett '95
Sable's boobies '98
Vince leaves forever '99
Rikishi splash '00
HHH's contract signing '02
and Orlando Jordan vs Chris Benoit '05.

I was sure Miz was going to win it when he limped out. Maybe they're testing the waters for a potential face turn.

As for MitB as a whole, I haven't felt this way after a PPV since Bash at the Beach '96. It's beautiful and surreal.

And here's TMZ covering the new WWE Champion partying in Chicago (tmz.com) with Ace Steele and Colt Cabana.

Will Punk be in Green Bay for RAW? Not according to his Twitter just now:

@CMPunk CM Punk
On my couch. About to put the title on the line against Piston Honda.

One of the best PPVs in a long, long time. That was arguably Cena's best performance ever. Punk was Punk. Christian winning the title by dq off a nut shot was sad. The divas title match was horrendous. The rest of the ppv was gold. If Raw draws a 2.9 rating like last week considering how this Punk angle has gone and how great the ppv I'll be very disappointed.

I'm pretty sure Punk's definition of "partying" is different than what TMZ is used to covering. Though it does note he "cracked a Diet Pepsi."

I love that he's treating the belt like NHL players do when they get the Stanley Cup.

Rats. I meant to put quotation marks around "partying". This is how straight edge celebrates after a World Title win. Ric Flair just vomited all over his $600 alligator loafers.

"@OfficialHTM @CMPunk Congratulations & well done from HTM"

I don't think I've ever heard the Honky Tonk Man say anything nice about anyone other than taking them off his "list" so high praise indeed.

@TonySchiavone_ also had some good/snarky tweets during the show (have no idea if it's really him or not)

I very much enjoyed the show. I would have rather watched Joe Theismann's leg be broken by Lawrence Taylor 100 more times than watch another angle of Christian spitting a loogie directly into Orton's mouth again tho.

Hope everybody came out of it without permanent damage given some of the punishment it appeared their bodies were taking. Looking forward to Raw tonight and hoping this leads to some compelling television and PPV's to come.

Well if they did it would work storyline wise. Have them create a 'new' belt since the old one was taken away. Have Punk officially stripped since he no longer works for the WWE and then have a tournament with the finals at SummerSlam.

Although Del Rio should be the most pissed, because as of right now he has a useless briefcase. He has a breifcase with a contract to a title match for a title that's not even in the company right now.

One could argue that ADR used his Mitb chance and won via count out. The title doesn't change hands and Punk is still champ. I can't imagine we could get a worse design than the spinner belt, but who knows. My hope is a title tournament at or prior to SummerSlam and Cena is out in the first round.

One who didn't watch the show could argue that, but they would be incorrect.
