(Eerily quiet here. Is nobody watching?)

I'm glad I'm not the only one (slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com) who thought the refereeing was unfairly lopsided in Monday's game. Granted, it's odd (along with unfortunate) that Raymond was injured as badly as he was from that check. But to have nothing called either at the time or in review is pretty appalling. And then the "dive" call on Sedin, which clearly wasn't a dive at all. I haven't been following hockey much lately, but I've seen a lot of it in my life, & that was just hideous officiating! Is that what anybody wants to see in the Stanley Cup finals?

This has been an especially nasty series. Both teams have been playing 'dirty'. I too was very surprised there was no penalty or suspension to Johnny Boychuk for the hit on Mason Raymond, especially after Mike Murphy came out and said that the degree of Horton's injury DID play into the lenght of Rome's suspension. This is in strak contrast to past suspension calls where 'the injury has nothing to do with the length of suspension'

It's also been an odd series not just because it's ben a homer series (that's happened before) but jsut HOW the games have played out. The games in Boston have been ansty nasty blowout games, and the game in Vancouver have been good (mostly) clean tight affairs.

Some meadia outlets seem to be stuck on the fact that Vancouver has only scored 3 goals in Boston, but Boston has only scored 2 in Vancouver. Yes Vancouver has been outscored 19-8, but the SCF is not determined on aggrigate score. Still it'd be intersting to see the last time the Cup Champions (assuming Vancouver wins tonight) have been out scored and outscored this badly.

Edit: The closest I found (Since become a best-of seven series in 1939 was the 1945 finals in which Toronto won the series 4-3 and the teams (Toronto and Detroit) both scored 9 goals total.

CONGRATS BRUINS. I've heard this sort of justifying a lot, but in the end, getting utterly crushed this many times in such a short span means you don't deserve to win the cup. I know I'm supposed to be mad because Vancouver is a Canadian team, but meh. Vancouver had the last Olympics. When the last time anything good happened to Boston? Okay, okay. They've won two World Series in the last six years. But still. It went to a city with a serious hockey history, and it's the second consecutive year for an original six team. If this keeps up, the Leafs will win within four years! (Wishful thinking, I know)

...and the 2008 NBA championship, and three Super Bowls in the early-to-mid-'00s. Don't get me wrong, congrats to the Bruins and all, but Boston has now won every big-four sports championship in the past decade, so it's not like they're the Ultimate Underdog or anything. (In fact, if anything they're even more annoying than New York).

By my count, in the past ten (and a half) years, Boston has three Super Bowls, two World Series, one NBA Championship, and one Stanley Cup.

These are going to be the most annoying sports fans to hang out with for the rest of our lives.

Holy crap. Not sure how I forgot about those Superbowls and NBA titles. But hey, remember that year the Patriots were gonna go totally undefeated and then lost the Superbowl to the Jets? That was pretty sweet, right, guys? Guys?

We've been watching live coverage of the riots (yes, plural) in downtown Vancouver. Absolutely disgusting.

The NHL should take away their home playoff dates next season and play them somewhere neutral.

Yeah, and they should do to same to Chicago, where two cops were shot during the 92 Bulls riot. And Detroit, where seven died in the 1990 Pistons riot. And Denver for their Superbowl riot. And Montreal for the Stanley Cup riot.

As a Vancouver fan this second riot is embarrassing, but please cut the soapbox shit. This happens in a ton of cities.

Us Habs fans riot over wins, losses, ties, the beer not being made right, suspensions, no suspensions, and other assorted mundane things. If you took away our playoff home dates you could expect a man-made crater in Quebec.

Only being a fan of the local basketball and hockey teams here in New England, the Bruins winning is AWESOME! They last won the Cup when I was 10 and 12 and I thought they always won! The 39 year wait seems worth it this morning, though. I have a mancrush on Tim Thomas, too.

I'm from Massachusetts and, yes, I can say that this is absolutely true. There is no one more annoying then Boston sports fans (besides, possibly, the Boston sports media). The worst part is when they try to play the "whoa is me, take pity" card while also trumpeting the fact that they've won tons of championships this decade.

Then again, I just can't figure out the fascination with sports.

This 100%. I actually used to casually root for Boston teams until the early 2000s, when every single Boston fan I knew or met starting whining about how they were so tortured by not having won the World Series in so long and how anyone rooting for New York was rooting for the GALACTIC EMPIRE, blah, blah, blah. Nevermind the Pats had just won a Super Bowl and that the Red Sox payroll was nearly as high as the Yankees and light years past any other team in MLB.

And, of course, Simmons (who I find quite entertaining when he isn't whoring out his Boston fandom) came along and totally made me despise Boston fans. His Bruins column last week (after ignoring them for about 15 years when they sucked) nearly made me vomit. I can just see the column now... "You people outside of Boston don't understand how badly Bruins fans have suffered. You'll never understand the true elation of finally winning a Stanley Cup. This was the most exciting season of hockey since 1972."

Now it's going to be insufferable.

EDIT: That being said, congrats to Boston fans who didn't wallow in self-pity prior to this streak of sports success and parade out their arrogance following it.

Congrats to the Bruins for winning the cup. Congrats to Thomas for standing on his head, the Conn Smythe was never in doubt.

To the idiots who rioted, no I'm not generalizing to 'Vanouver fans' becuase it was a small subset of the 100,000 or so fans that were outside watching the game. They seemed ready to riot win or lose, it was not pretty. Grow up because you just destroyed the reputation that Vancouver rebuilt with the Olympics after it was tarnished in '94.

I was probably caught up in the anger watching everything unfold, and yeah, the NHL would never do it. Embarassment is a nice way to put it.

It's not just last night, and just Canadian Fans. You will be hard pressed to find a hockey fan like Bettman. He almost always gets booed when he's there to present the Cup. Yes the fact taht it was in Canada probably made the boos louder, but it's just a generic hate for the man.
