I've come to the conclusion that Dan Didio, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are just trolling us.

This all HAS TO BE a joke, right?

EDIT: Tomorrow, Johns and Lee will be here in Hollywood at the HERO COMPLEX FILM FESTIVAL. I am tempted to take a sign or make an ass out of myself or something.

Any suggestions. I will be there.

I would hand them each a lemon, then stand back and do the slow sarcastic clapping thing, perhaps with a "Bravo Gentlemen" and treat it as if they have just trolled the entire comics' reading world.

I am upset that with as bad the history of the DCU's treatment of women is (how many female characters have rape or severe violence against them as part of their back story or character arc? How many others are simply a female version of a different male superhero that can be put in peril for added tension to his storyline?) that they are replicating the same crap in the reboot.

Harley Quinn is a compelling character because she was a brilliant, successful woman who made a clear decision to give everything up, become a criminal and be in a dysfunctional relationship with the Joker. In fact she made a decision to go back to the Joker again and again. It is not a decision anyone is making for her. Now in the reboot she looks like a man (and one that has never seen such clothing outside of a picture) is choosing her outfits.

Harley Quinn gets to lead a team, but has to look like a bad groupie at an ICP concert. Power without the ability to make your own personal decisions is not real power.

Why would I want to read about female characters that can't be trusted to make their own decisions? I want to read about characters forced to make difficult decisions and for their decisions to make sense even if I'm screaming at them to make a different one.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
I remember reading a Wizard article about redesigning Superman's costume when I was about twelve. A bunch of artists sketched an idea and some notes. Jim Lee's? Get rid of the undies, but leave him a red belt so the color layout will remain about the same.

As soon as I heard Lee was one of the guys behind the reboot I knew this was coming and I actually approve. Red underwear in 2011 looks ridiculous on the Last Son of [redacted].

Also, Spider Island? Marvel I do not miss you.

Not to derail the conversation, but since some of you are already talking about it, the difference between Spider Island and Flashpoint (well, maybe a difference instead of the difference) is that Spider Island affects Spider-Man, and Flashpoint affects everything. Spider Island isn't going to shake up Thunderbolts or Deadpool or the Hulk. Flashpoint has already gotten Secret Six canceled and gotten rid of Oracle and given us awful, awful, awful redesigns for the Suicide Squad. So, Spider Island is maybe a good reason not to read the Spider-Man books, but I'm not sure you can make a blanket statement about Marvel because of it (now, if you wanted to talk about the Fear Itself event, that might be a different story).

There's going to be a huge DC booth at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo next weekend, including Gail Simone, Dustin Nguyen, and Neal Adams. Any questions I should ask?

See, that is the problem, I have with Marvel doing something like Spider Skull Island. DC is going balls to the wall crazy with this reboot for it to effect all of their characters due to the global impact of Flashpoint. Spider Skull Island will probably only affect Spidey, yet you know who else works in Manhattan? Almost every other Marvel hero. Shouldn't we get a Daredevil who sticks to walls or a Punisher that shoots webbing out of his wrist and what about the FF he is playing around with what do they get? I respect DC for going all in even though they are playing with a dead man's hand.

Marvel is big evented out mainly due to the fact their endings suck. They have good to awesome ideas for these events and then fail with how to finish them. The endings mainly fall for Marvel wanting them to be tied to another big event after its done, so it never really ends. So, what you will about Blackest Night, Infinite Crisis and most of DC's big events, but they have endings. You didn't have to read 52 or Brightest Day or even Countdown, actually no one should have read Countdown. If you read Civil War, you were pretty much forced to read Cap, Avengers Intative and New Avengers to see who Registration played out. World War Hulk, you had to read Hulk to see where they were going with it. Secret Invasion forced you to read the Avengers titles to see how the Osborn thing would be played out. So on and so on. For Marvel there is no end, because of there was an end then they would actually have to spend money on Ads for you to be told what is coming up next instead of shoving you into it.

I hate this reboot. Its the most insane thing I have ever seen in comics and thats saying quite a bit. Yet, I will go back to DC if some of the stories get good word of mouth. It will be a long, long time til I go back to Marvel if ever.

Ok, I've been thinking about the Superman thing and it doesn't make sense. If DC has lost the rights to the suit design, wouldn't the new Superman have to look more different than "no undies"? I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you have to change things significantly.

I know that in wrestling there is a line. When Ray Trailer went to WCW, they tried giving a different color police uniform and calling him The Boss. WWF filed a suit and he had to become Guardian Angel. When the Dudley's went to TNA, they had to lose the glasses, tie dye, and the Dudley name.

I would think that there would have to be major changes like no cape, maybe a completely different symbol, different color scheme, etc...

Just send Gail all the love in the world for Secret Six, which is one of the best series of comics I've read in the last decade.

This write up about Jim Lee and Geoff Johns' plan for Justice League restored some of my enthusiasm, at least for the initial issues Justice League title.

Lee said. “We’re talking about ‘Justice League,’ but there’s never been a really awesome origin for the Justice League."

WHAT? What do you call Starro -- okay, I see their point. I'm really interested in what they're cooking up for Justice League.

Morrison and Superman, I'm much more skeptical about. I really liked All-Star Superman and Morrison talks a good game. But then, Morrison always talks a good game. 9 times out of 10 I just have no idea how to read Morrison's game.

At the end of the day, Johns is correct that it's all about execution.

JLA is going on my trade list to buy if its half as good as I think it will be. Yet, I am skeptical. Perez on Superman sounds good til you realize he has some serious health issues. Awesome guy though, meet him twice in person and out of all the reboot stuff is the only one that makes me interested. Rob Leifield on Hawk and Dove is going to interesting.

I am heading to Wizard World Philly this weekend and can not wait for the Green Lantern panel. Yet, I am sure it will pale in comparison to the Baltimore DC Panel where you get the retailers. I will sit through whatever crap panel is before it just to see the chaos ensue. Of course, last time I did that it was Image were Kirkman was there talking about Walking Dead getting greenlighted and he still thought it was a 35% chance of getting made.

I just don't see this "reboot" meaning much. It is like they want to reset everything, but don't quite have the balls to do it. In most cases, the middleground pisses off everyone.

As if all the questions of whether this is a reboot, relaunch, or a giant smash of the RESET button weren't confusing enough already, we get the official solicitations for September and they don't make anything clearer when they say stuff like:

I like how someone called it a "reheat" instead of reboot.

Just say no.

Maybe I'm too jaded now (like how Stan is now in South Park), but this is the DC universe. I fully expect that they will just have another "crisis" in 4-6 years and they will reboot/reset/relaunch/retcon all this away.

As they have pre/post crisis eras, there will now be a pre/post reboot era. DC could go back to the old numbering or pick up where they WOULD have been in a Marvel "Six months later..." sort way.

The titles would be different from before this latest "big event" and they mystery to the changes in the characters will be slowly reveled to the readers.

Wait someone used money from their billion dollar company to fund a vigilante's war on crime and there were LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS?

Crazy talk, Superman (whoever that is) totally vouched for that dude.

That's why the whole Batman Inc. concept is retarded. It is enough of a stretch to belive Commissioner Gordon would cooperate with Batman, but at least we see how deperate you would be trying to clean up Gotham.

Plus Batwing #1, which features the Batman of Africa from Batman Incorporated.

Let me ask you guys: I know people just read whatever books that have the artists and writers they like nowadays. But is there any way to make sense of, for instance, the disparate adventures of Batman [presumably Bruce Wayne]? Looking over the lists, Batman is involved in Justice League, Detective Comics, Justice League International, Batman and Robin, Batman, and Batman: The Dark Knight. I mean, when does the dude sleep?

Supposedly he does the eight "30 minute naps" thing. I think Chuck Dixon said that. The real question is who is in more places at once: Batman or Wolverine?

The best thing about an idea like Batman Incorporated is if there are multiple Batmen it solves this problem. Bruce in JLA and Batman, Dick in Detective Comics, Jean Paul resurrected leading the Outsiders etcetera etcetera.

On topic: Could the reboot/reheat please un-martyr Sue Dibny?

How can the Justice League only have formed 5 years ago but Identity Crisis happened? How can Bruce Wayne have had three Robins and still be (presumably) under 30 or younger than he was before? I'm even more confused than ever.
