Mitt Romney is in the running now. Oh and guess who else showed up in New Hampshire on her bus and tried to steal his thunder. This is getting good now.

He could maybe beat Obama. Yet, he basically gave Obama the blueprint for Health Care which the GOP loved when he was in office then hated when Obama used it. That may not be the worst shot against him, its the Mormon thing. If this was a general election, I can see the hard Christian right vote for him, but its not a general election. He is going to be in there with Palin, Bauchman and others who have strong ties to that part of the party. I think he will do well in places like New Hampshire and Iowa, but when you get the South Carolina stretch of this thing thats where the craziness starts creeping into the campaign ask McCain. If he does win the nomination, I am not sure what he brings to the table besides being a bit saner then the rest of the candidates. He is going to run against his own health care plan, has not done anything in 4 years and has no real natural charisma. If he can appeal to the fact he was a governor of a blue state and somewhat popular, he will be ok. Yet, to get to that stage, he has to overcome people who think Mormons are a step above Islam, but not to far of a step.

I honestly don't know how being Mormon will play with the "Christian Right". Many I am familiar with are adamant that Mormons aren't Christian and all that goes with that.

Obama destroys Romney in a general election. But, it's a moot point since Romney isn't Capital-C Conservative enough to survive a Republican primary.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Infantry, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army National Guard! Job well done in Iraq!

Obama destroys anybody the GOP fields. The only candidate they've got with any type of right-wing pizzazz that'll fire up the Tea Party-types is Palin.

And she's a joke.

This thing's already over. Now 2016, THERE'S a race.

Surprising that she's not too busy moving into her new Scottsdale house (huffingtonpost.com) a couple of miles up the road. I'll have to remember to watch for secret service agents running errands at the AJ's market.

Hey, its a little early to call victory either way. Unemployment could blow up again or continue to suck as well as another Tea Party outrage over nothing, but get good press.

No president has ever been elected with unemployment over 9%. Also, if gas prices remain high, Obama will suffer.

HOWEVER, I have always been of the belief that you have to run FOR something. You can't just run as "Not Obama" and expect to win. That's what Dole did when he was crushed by Clinton, and basically what Kerry tried to do against W.

Mitt Romney never stopped running. The GOP field is a disaster, and as '96 and '04 showed, running as "I'm Not" does not win, barring unmitigated disaster.

The one thing about the economy that Obama has is jobs are being created. Its not a lot of jobs especially with the May numbers, but its at least something you can point to and say "Hey, I came in here with a 9.8% unemployment rate and we got it down to 9.2% that means something. Granted, it can all change come 2012 that is why saying its early to celebrate. Yet, if this is the field even with Perry or Christie jumping in then I think Obama has a good choice of winning not a slam dunk, but a 55% chance.

Agreed on the "barring unforseen disaster," but otherwise, 2008-12 is 1992-96 revisited:

* Recession under GOP Prez.
* New Democratic President elected to FIX said recession. (Whether any Prez actually can or not is another whole topic.)
* 2 years into Prez's term, people not happy with lack of economic progress; sweep GOP into control of at least 1 wing of Capitol Hill.
* GOP thinks they received a mandate from the people to push THEIR way of thinking through, not realizing they're just there as a disapproval vote of the Prez.
* 2 years later, people are unhappy with GOP. (Only difference this time? Tea Partiers who think they haven't gone far ENOUGH, in addition to Joe Six-Pack who hasn't seen gov't solve his problems yet.)
* GOP runs a ridiculous candidate. (Bob Dole in 1996, any yahoo in 2010.)
* Sitting Democrat Prez rolls to easy re-election. (Especially if Tea Partiers unhappy w/ eventual GOP nominee mount 3rd party campaign, splitting conservative vote.)

The usual crooks and liars laugh all the way to the bank, and nothing gets done for the little guy.

That may be the way it plays out but Obama is not the politician Clinton is and I am guessing that the Republicans learned something from the Newt led era. As in not shutting the government down.

Considering the whole debt ceiling debate, the real question isn't if they learned something, it's if they learned the right lesson. They might try to go even bigger and get DESTROYED in the process.

I think they are already seeing it with the Paul Ryan Medicare plan blowing up in their faces. The fact that he maybe in the field is going to keep that issue afloat for awhile. Then at some point either Palin or Romney will go after it just to get him out of the way. The Debt Ceiling is going to be raised one way or another, because a total collapse will not help anyone and in these situation people tend to blame Congress more then a President they see with the light in the White House at 3 am.

At some point, you would think the Dems are going to use the GOP Governors as a scapegoat rightly or wrongly for the economy as well. Its a double edge side for the party if the economy keeps lagging or going down, they can maybe beat Obama, yet they have many people in high profile places when it comes to job creation its bad for them. I am sure the GOP cutting everything will appeal to the base, but when states are letting go of thousands of state and local jobs not all of them are going to be Democrats. It also won't solve the problem for these states where raising taxes is going to have to be part of the plan or they will be faced with more debt and negative or zero job creation. I doubt that will be a winning combo in any election

Isn't this the same thing you guys said about Bush in 1999? That Al Gore was a lock? How did that work out?

There are three movies about how folks didn't like Fahrenheit 9/11? That's kinda sad, isn't it? I mean, at least Michael Moore makes movies about things that, you know, matter.
