Well, now I feel dumb for hurrying up and posting.
The network is coming back online over the next few hours. You can see a map of which US states are online yet. State by state seems an odd way of doing it. It should be going up for everywhere, but I don't know where those maps are (or if they just show the right graphic for your region via your IP address.) As I write this, none of the states appear to be 'turned on' yet.
There's also a somewhat patronizing and still not apologetic enough message from Kazou Hirai. They're not so subtly more worried about lawsuit exposure than apologizes, making sure you know Sony was the victim here. Stores (both the PSN and the music one) will not be up yet - wonder if they're handling credit card info different? I know I'll be handling credit card info different with them.

It is telling that when I try to access this page, I get an error. (Also, they have invented their own HTTP codes - *that* leads to a Sony joke that almost writes itself.)
Everything from Maine to new york, new jersey and now California are up. I would like to know what order their doing this in. because they are skipping around alot. At this rate the network will be up by Sunday afternoon.

Wonder what the schedule is for Canadians. I checked last night before bedtime...nothing.
Edit: Its back up, I think - I haven't tried to play any games on it yet. The PlayStation store is still closed, however.

According to Sony, Home is available.

I logged in and played my favourite PS3 game, "Sit On Your Ass While The System Update Runs." Never gets old. Then I changed my password (I wonder how many of the new passwords will reference the hacking and/or tell Sony to go fuck themselves?) and finally got in to find out which credit card I had saved in there. Deleted the info. Changed my personal info to say that my name is Gene Parmesan and I live at 123 Sesame Street in Bonerville, Saskatchewan. I assume this will cause problems if I ever require warranty service, but whatever. Called the bank and cancelled the compromised card. Then I remembered that Japanese PSN account I made a few years ago for that new Fire Pro Wrestling game that turned out to be a hoax, so I cancelled my other credit card too, just to be safe. Hope I don't need to buy anything for 7 to 10 business days.
Anyway, my point is that the PS3 is mostly a really crappy system and this hasn't improved my opinion of it.
Originally posted by thecubsfanI think you'd like the PS3 better if you played any games on it.
Every time I try, I have to run a system update and then I get mad and do something else. I think I had 2 GB of updates the last time I tried playing Pain.
And if the game isn't exclusive to the PS3, I'd rather play it on the 360 for the Achievements (plus I prefer the controller for everything but Katamari).
That definitely happens with me too. The system or even game update will just usually freeze at a certain point, and I have to give up and just play whatever game I am playing without doing the update.
Although we differ in that I don't really care about achievements that much, so my decision on which system to get a game for has more to do with online capabilities and graphics (which is why I am getting LA Noire for PS3 tomorrow and not XBox 360).

I'm going get Little Big Planet and Wipeout HD. The wife wants a racing game and wipeout looks fun. and LBP I have heard nothing but good things about.

Originally posted by KJames199 I'll get LBP and ModNation Racers for the PSP and LBP and inFamous for the PS3, unless someone can sway me with recommendations.
That's the way to go, unless you have a predilection for other genres. Anyone who likes Mario Kart will like Modnation, LBP is fun to play with, and inFamous is just very good.
Since I've played those two games, I'm kind of out of luck here. They actually gave out Wipeout as part PS Plus a while back, and even my love of trophies couldn't get me to try it more than once. I am racist towards both zombies and zombie killing, so that's no go. Stardust doesn't much interest me. I may just grab LBP (since I long ago traded it in), though I'm not sure how long it's going to stay with a HD that's already quite full. Need to look into getting a bigger one of those, I guess.
Infamous is amusing timing since the new game is just a month or so away, but the great thing is I've been meaning to force my copy on a friend to get him to check it out, and now I won't have to bother (and might actually get that final trophy.) Hooray hackers!
I would have preferred a credit to my PSN account instead - none of those games outside of InFamous really interests me. I already have LBP, and it's really fun.
I've never played the PSP version of ModNation Racers, but the PS3 version is absolutely incredible fun.
I'm interested in seeing what the PlayStation Plus service is like - but I heard someone suggest that the free games available on it are locked if one's PS+ membership expires.
I'm grateful to have my PSN back, though.
EDIT: I can't get into the PlayStation Store - Its saying that it's under maintenance. I'm impatient :)

I'm assuming it's the one for collecting all of the blast shards. That was a pain. As far as the free games go, it's nice of them to do but is wasted on me. I have the platinum for InFamous and already played LBP to death. I don't have much interest in the other games. But again, nice of them to do. I'm just glad I can finally play Mortal Kombat and The Show online.
The North American PS3 choices: - Dead Nation - inFAMOUS - LittleBigPlanet - Super Stardust HD - Wipeout HD + Fury
I own LBP and Wipeout HD already and my roommate owns infamous. I guess I'll be getting the other two. Has anyone here played Dead Nation? Is it any good?

I will be especially excited if the unique ID that I created for my wife allows me to download 4 games onto the console.
I just got this thing in December or so. Luckily there is no credit card info listed on my accounts. I typically avoid on-line purchasing where point cards are available. I think I am going to continue with that mindset. (Hmmm, thinking about an update to itunes now)
Infamous and Wipe out are likely to be my picks otherwise.

My brother and I are thinking the same thing ... I wonder if it's two games for every PSN account, or if it's limited to only two games per individual console.
Anyway, downloaded the update last night before watching Chuck/The Event, and it actually was pretty quick ... My brother reset his password no problem, but when I tried to do the same thing, they actually sent me an email and told me there would be instructions on how to reset mine on a PC. Weird.
