This week's episode spends a little of time checking in with all of the contestants, but without the usual bottom three narrative focus. It's a bit clear why by the 40 minute mark (or the teaser the week before), when someone goes down injured. It's Martin, hurt on his own, just walking out of the ring. Martin is devastated the moment he can't walk on it. He knows it's over, tries to fight it, is forced to get the x-ray, and has a fractured ankle. Martin is out, though Austin allows him to hang up his own belt.

So that's it, right? Except there's ten minutes left in the show, and trainers have the wrestlers do two minute matches with one top rope move. Christina, who all the trainers are suddenly in love with, has her match with AJ. AJ reacted to last week's near cut for being boring by switching to a boring guy trying to be exciting. It's slightly more annoying, and he'd be in the final three if they did one this week (with for sure Andy and possibly Jeremiah if only because Luke/Christina/Martin were clearly top 3.) Anyway, Christina slowly climbs up the ropes for her top rope move, jumps at AJ with a - point of contention, I guess. DeMott and Booker are sure it was supposed to be a crossbody. AJ (and I) are sure it's supposed to be an axhandle, and so AJ makes no attempt to catch her, just standing there to get boinked in the head. We never really get Christina's opinion, because she's too busy in hysterical pain on the mat, grabbing her ankle.

I may make a gif of this later, because it's pretty clear to me that it's a flying axhandle (clue 1: she makes the ax with her arm; clue 2: she goes straight down), but to the trainers, vanilla goof AJ has just injured their favorite pupil. There's no elimination at the end of the episode - too many people getting hurt for that - but AJ is full cogitate he might as well be cut right now, there isn't much that can save him.

Really, nothing happened in the first 40 minutes that mattered. The theme of the week was creativity, which led to a glorified extended plug for the create a character feature in WWE All Stars. Luke, the Miz with more tattoos, won. AJ named his guy "Jaxon" and should've be cut right there for being too XTREME.

The Divas (Bellas, Eva, Kelly) also showed creativity by...taking everyone out to a nice dinner. Austin told us the Divas make it in the WWE because of the creativity; I might have bought that if he said "mental toughness." This was kind of pointless, except for the sense that they already knew Christina and this was being edited to make that less obvious, and there was some interesting conversations about The Business. Kelly saying she's only now feeling like she's found a groove was illuminating.

Other notes
- the trainees suck and don't have their heads in the game at least 65% of the training sessions, it seems. Maybe that's a low number based on how many times they bring it up.
- Andy has a young child he's missing, but not enough to leave
- Luke had TWO strong heel promos, including barely managing to be sad for the people who just broke their ankles
- Martin is a suck up until the day he dies
- Ringmaster footage!

Next week: the Rock! Psych's James Roday! I'm very excited for one of those. Also, a suspicious lack of shots of Christina...

my wife pointed out that they want them to learn creativity but the only one that had that was kick off and none of the trainers like him.

This episode plodded and plodded and I ended up falling asleep during the Kingston/Punk match, which really annoyed me... so I'm gonna blame this show.

Ironically, that's when I woke up from my own Tough Enough inspired nap. Guess I didn't miss anything while I was out...

There really seems to be some rampant favortism for Christina. That was a freaking axe handle. I commented that she injured herself doing the simplest top rope move you can do.

NO idea where Booker and Bill are coming from. If I'm AJ, I'd cuss out both of them. He's gone anyway for having no personality, might as well throw a hail mary.

Luke was a dick about Christina's injury, but actually seemed somewhat sincere about Martin. Especially considering Martin was his biggest threat

Looked like an axehandle from here, too. But if the trainers were giving everyone two minutes to 'show their stuff', wouldn't they have to have been calling moves? That should settle the matter. (Not that we'll ever know)

I was sorry to see Martin have to withdraw, because he seemed to be the one who realized that to look good in the ring, you have to help the other guy look good as well. Though I imagine Martin and four or five of the contestants will end up in the developmental program anyhow.

Luke looks like the only one in the bunch who might be able to jump right into a program and take advantage of being named the winner, before heading down to work on his skills.

And I nodded off during Rey/Truth. (edit: and apparently that whole match Rey had with ADR before the Truth beatdown.)

Those simple moves sometimes can end up being the worst moves. Sid Vicious for example. Did she land on his ankle when she did that? Boy, this Tough Enough crowd is sure getting hurt a lot..... I don't believe Tough Enough much but I bet those last two females will get WWE shots, they certainly have the talent.

I actually thought she was going to do a crossbody, too, up until AJ got close to the corner. And even if that was the original plan, she clearly came off with an axehandle, which AJ took perfectly. So, yeah, not sure what Book & Bill were thinking.

But AJ should get cut regardless, because he's a boring.

You reap what you sow, Christina. It was your hideous botch at a leapfrog that got rid of Ivelisse, so now it's your turn. I won't, like, totally, miss you, like, at all.

I have no idea what Booker and Bill were on about, that was an axehandle all the way for reasons already mentioned here. No word from Trish or Austin. It's almost as though they're building up to cutting AJ next week. In any case, if Christina's gone, AJ's not near Luke, Andy, or Jeremiah in terms of talent, so he'll be going anyway.

I will miss her, if she's out, but we can't avoid that she was involved in two mishaps, one that eliminated another competitor. I don't blame AJ at all for the injury. She went up. She jumped off. If AJ didn't know what the spot was supposed to be, how can he be blamed for her injury? By moving closer, he allowed her to jump a shorter distance. I think he was being courteous.

I said before that I wanted Ivey's injury to spur a lecture about the safety of others inside the ring, and Austin touched on it briefly -- very briefly -- at the start of the episode. Austin, out of everyone on that show, can attest most to the need to look out for the other guy. The subsequent training session was halted out of dead energy and sloppiness, not so much because Luke was thrown onto his head over the top rope. That spot looked especially ugly, and Luke was lucky to walk away.

I'm sure these kids are getting their asses handed to them over safety. I hope so anyway, because we're not seeing it. Remember when Al Snow locked a kid down because he repeatedly landed on his wrists? We need that level of reinforcement for this fundamental element of the industry.

Martin was a fluke, and my heart broke for him just as it did for Ivey.

My favorite now is goofy but earnest Jeremiah, leaving Luke the Pompous to immediately attack him as the sore loser.

Kharma for Christina. Shut up trainers. Justice for Ivelisse. Iveyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I would still root for Christina to win all of Tough Enough. She's totally like a sweet and nice person, and Luke is (playing/edited as) a real jerk.

Great episode. It had just about everything you could want from Tough Enough. Injury, pathos, drama, Trish in yoga pants, sexy Divas being sexy and slapping Jeremiah at the dinner table. I loved Stone Cold letting Martin put his own belt on the wall. I really dig displays of respect like that in this business. Martin exiting the show to respect, hugs and applause for his run was like the Ric Flair retirement equivalent of Tough Enough. But with Martin down, I'm throwing it all behind Luke. He's the unquestioned alpha wolf. Luke is the heel you'd love to hate to love.

Oh God, PLEASE. Nothing was a greater sign of a successful kool-aid drinkin' brainwash like Martin getting weepy that he got to put his own belt up on the wall. That indicates he'll definitely be back because he has "respect" for the WWE way but makes him no less of AHLOOOOZAH.

I think I was more interested that Austin not only referenced his own piledriver injury but it somehow escaped the editing process and made it to air. (Austin seemed careful not to actually come out and say "Owen Hart," which made it much easier.)

I am in the Christina fucked herself camp. All the way it looked like an axe handle. Bill and Booker thinking it was a crossbody could be their bad and reversed in next week's show. Luke has this thing wrapped up, but even my wife pointed out the obvious feud of Martin coming back to say he never lost. I did like Austin letting Martin hang up whether it was WWE influenced or not, it was a nice touch. I fell asleep after Cole/Lawler and I DVRed Tough Enough. I am guessing its just Raw. Rock and Austin in the same ring, I am there.

I saw a promo for next week's episode:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
The voice over guy said "Who will make it to the final three?" That pretty much explains what happens to Christina.

My understanding of the whole Christina situation was that the "match" was scripted with her going for a crossbody, but AJ wandered too close to the ropes, so she settled for going for the double axehandle and just jumped straight down and landed awkwardly.

Stupid on her part for improvising something she couldn't pull off properly? Yeah. But it was AJ's fault for not knowing where he was when he was staggering around.

Now I may be wrong here but aren't you so post to bend your legs when you jump from a high place onto the floor? I was told that by my mom and dad when I was going to jump off a tree when I was 8. For some one to have the background she does and NOT do that was stupid on her part, for that I put the blame on her all she had to do was kick him away to do the cross body.

My guess is that this is a scripted show that is heavily edited like every other "reality" show and that Christina could have fallen off the top rope onto the floor, killing two newborns in the process... and the trainers would have said "AJ screwed up that cross body" because it makes good sense demographics wise to have a female in the final three instead of making it all-males.

That's how I read it, too.

Here's where I disagree. Christina was taking FOREVER to get up to the top, and AJ was on the verge of looking foolish standing around in one spot waiting for her. It's like struggling to pull off a Fatality in Mortal Kombat while your opponent is staggering in one spot looking like an idiot. My read is that AJ initiated an improv by going after Christina which forced Christina to improv with the double axehandle. Blame him for that, if you want, but I think he knew exactly where he was.

Here's a dumb question. When you throw your opponent over the top rope, who's doing the "work"? Is the thrower applying real force causing forward momentum, or is the throw-ee jumping? Whose fault was this?
