In late after spending last night seeing Thor. So is there anything funnier than queing up the DVR only to immediately be greeted by a preview for "Original" Syfy movie, "Almighty Thor"?

TONIGHT! It's the first SmackDown after Extreme Rules and we have a new World Champion! Who lines up to face Christian first? Plus, we still have some new faces from the draft we haven't seen yet. SmackDown is NOW!

WWE - The Champ Is Here!

Here's a video package for Christian. And it's a pretty well-done one, at that.

No opening credits, as Tony Chimel welcomes in Christian to a pretty big pop. Christian comes out in street clothes with the World Heavyweight Championship. Christian's still looking choked up, as we see your hosts, Josh Matthews and Booker T. Your other host, Michael Cole, tries to be the turd in the punch bowl by pointing out that Christian won by fluke after Edge interfered. Thanks, dick! Anyway, it's promo time, right after a big "Christian" chant!

"If you'll all just bear with me for one second, because I've been waiting 17 long years to do this." Christian holds up the title to a big pop and pauses for another "Christian" chant. "You know, I've dreamed about this moment for my entire life ever since I was a little kid. I dreamed about what I would do, I dreamed about what I would say, how it would look, how it would sound, where it was going to take place, and I can honestly tell you that those dreams pale, they pale in comparison to how it actually feels to stand here as the brand new World Heavyweight Champion. And I know there's a lot of people that helped me out along the way, and I mean...right before I came out here, I got a text message from Edge...and...uh...he said...uh...he said, 'Enjoy this moment, because you earned it.' And I am! Believe me, I am enjoying every single second of it right now! And Edge, I know you're watching at home and...everybody knows about our storied past, how we grew up together, how we were best friends...and all I want to say is this...without Edge, there is absolutely no Christian, and from the bottom of my heart, I love you, man! Thank you! And then of course, there's all of you, the WWE Universe! Actually...actually, there's all of you, my peeps! You've always had my back, you always believed in me, and you always let your voices be heard. You all wanted this moment just as much as I did, and for that, I say thank you! And you know before Edge retired, he said that this title doesn't belong to any one Superstar, that it belongs to each and every one of you. And he was right! So I give you my word that every single night..."

Interruption comes from Mark Henry. Oh God...here we go! Let's get THIS feud over with! Here's Mark Henry with a mic.

Mark Henry: Congratulations, Christian! You did it! I just want to go on record right now, because I was cheering for you the whole time. I mean...not because I was a fan of yours or anything, but because I look at you...and I look at me...and I want to be the first one to get my hands on that World Title.

Christian: Ok, Mark, you want my World Heavyweight Championship? That's what you want?

Mark Henry: That's right.

Christian: You realize this is made of gold and not chocolate, right?

Mark Henry: So you got jokes? So why you out here, running like diarrhea of the mouth? Let me tell you something about yourself, Christian. Edge is not here anymore to protect you. You by yourself.

Next interruption comes from The Great Khali, of all people. Um...ok, I didn't expect that. So let's give a mic to...Khali? Oh boy...

Khali: [Hindi]

Singh: Christian, the Great Khali says "Congratulations, but before you accept a challenge from The World's Strongest Man...perhaps you'd like to accept a challenge from a former World Champion. Someone who's walked the jungles of India, someone who doesn't flinch at the sight of ten-foot pythons, A man who's wrestled white bengal tigers into submission. The Great Khali!"

Christian: Alrightalrightalrightalrightalright, hold on a second. So now we have The World's Strongest Man, we have a 7'3" guy who, on Monday Night Raw, was wearing a giant tutu. I mean, if we get another freak out here, we can all join the circus. I mean, what's going on?

Next interruption comes from Randy Orton. Well, at least we have feasible main eventers now. Mics for everyone!

Orton: Now...I'm no freak...but I am Randy Orton. And I'm new here on SmackDown, so if this...if this is how you do things over here, let me tell you right now, Christian, I am not going to let this opportunity pass ME by, so if you would, throw my name in the hat to face you for your World Title.

So now it's time to bring out Teddy Long to sort out this mess. Teddy Long decides to gauge the fan interest. Of course, they back Randy Orton, so we have a World Title match tonight with Christian facing Randy Orton. Kinda odd that they'd just give this away out of nowhere, but I'll roll with it. Segment ends with a handshake from Christian and Orton.

Later tonight, we relive The Rock's birthday celebration, because OVER AN HOUR of birthday nonsense from last Monday JUST WASN'T ENOUGH!

Ad break

The Great Khali walks backstage, dejected that he didn't a shot tonight. Jinder Mahal enters the picture. I know this, because Runjin Singh says "It's Jinder Mahal!" ACTING! Mahal says things will get better now that he's here. Singh says he's got Khali handled, so Mahal points out that he's the one that had Khali wearing a tutu. Man's got a point there.

SHEAMUS v. DANIEL BRYAN
We see stills from last Sunday's PPV where Sheamus lost the U.S. Title to Kofi Kingston.

We start with a wrestling sequence that devolves to clubbing blows from Sheamus. Sheamus hits an elbow for two. Bryan goes to work with corner chops, but Sheamus overpowers him. Bryan is whipped into the corner and gets his backflip counter. He ducks the Irish Hammer and gets a dropkick to send Sheamus out. Bryan follows him with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Sheamus whips Bryan into the steel post and hits the Irish Curse to send us to our next ad break.

We come back with Sheamus hitting the armbar. Corner charge eats elbow, but Sheamus quickly gets control with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Sheamus hits clubbing blows and a running knee. Sheamus brings himself in with a flying shoulderblock for 2. Sheamus puts Bryan on the top rope, but the second-rope superplex is blocked. Bryan puts him down and hits a missile dropkick. Bryan hits kicks and the kick to the head gets 2. Sheamus runs into a boot, but puts Bryan down with the Irish Hammer. Sheamus goes for the High Cr...I'm sorry, did Michael Cole call it "Pale Justice"? Ok, so Sheamus has re-named his move...into something a lot stupider, but it gets countered. Sheamus goes for the flying shoulderblock again, but Bryan turns it into the LeBell Lock! Sheamus is able to reach the ropes, though. Sheamus regroups on the outisde. Bryan wants the suicide dive, so Sheamus catches him with the Brogue Kick! Nice! Second Brogue Kick puts an end to Bryan's night at 9 minutes.

WINNER: Sheamus - I could watch these two go all night. Good match!

Later tonight, the World Title is on the line with Christian defending against Randy Orton.

Ad break - Randy Orton's movie gets called a lot of things out of context.

Here comes Cody Rhodes in full-suit and mask. He stops atop the ramp and cues his assistants with paper bags. We see stills of Cody losing his match against Rey Mysterio last Sunday. Booker mentions the Great Muta, as my head spins. Anyway, it's promo time!

"There is a common expression and I'm sure this audience is familiar with it. Adding insult to injury! That is what Rey Mysterio did at Extreme Rules, searing my eyes with the mist...and I HATE that it will reflect as a loss for me in the record, but I did expose Rey Mysterio, BETTER YET, I forced Rey Mysterio to expose himself. Rey Mysterio was desperate! Gutless! And a coward. But thankfully, I won't have to deal with the malevolance that pervades from each and every pore of his body, because...little Rey has been drafted to Raw. You know, my eyes are still burning, they still bother, but even through burning eyes, I can see inside and out that all of you, ALL OF YOU, are still ugly! But as a service to you and at great expense to me, I will provide you with these paper bags. ASSISTANTS, assist me! Hand them out!" And yes, the assistants hand out the paper bags. And the people wear them! Just awesome! "Please, everyone! Hide your hideousness! Conceal your repugnance! Because while my face may repulse, your ugliness OFFENDS me!"

Man, Cody's such a dynamite promo these days. We move to your hosts, Josh Matthews, Booker T, and Michael Cole. They move it to last Sunday's tag title match, as they point out The Corre is still dissenting.

THE BIG SHOW v. EZEKIEL JACKSON (w/THE CORRE)
Well, I didn't expect this match to happen tonight. After months of buildup, we finally get Show and Jackson facing off. But first, here's Kane to back up Show at ringside. So let's go to our next ad break.

We start with the big power lock-up. Here's another one, which Jackson wins. Well, we're off to a riveting start. Here's another lock-up and Show gets a waistlock takeover into a headlock. Jackson breaks it with a BIG BACK BODYDROP! Damn! Jackson hammers away and gets 2. Jackson hits a corner avalanche and a BIG BODYSLAM for 2. Time to hit the chinlock. Show hits a back suplex to put Jackson down. Both men to their knees, hammering away. Show hits clotheslines and a corner avalanche. Shoulderblock takes Jackson down. Kane and The Corre guys are fighting each other. Show single-handedly wipes them out, but he's left Jackson alone and the lariat finishes at 3 minutes and change.

WINNER: Ezekiel Jackson - A bit anti-climactic, but those were some awesome-looking power moves from Jackson.

Post-match, The Corre guys raise Jackson's hand. But Jackson looks a bit non-appreciative and he walks away.

Coming up next...sigh...it's The Rock's birthday again.

Ad break - Tough Enough promo

Here's a birthday recap, in case you didn't see the footage from Raw.

Ad break - DX DVD promo

WWE Rewind - LayCool breaks up and Michelle is gone from the E

LAYLA v. ALICIA FOX
Layla comes out to LayCool's music, as she now has full custody of it. Is this a FRESH Divas match I see? Something that DOESN'T involve some combination of LayCool and Kelly Kelly? Somebody up there likes me!

Fox takes control, as the announcers note Layla's redemption storyline, which I still maintain could be awesome. Layla hits a neckbreaker and...oh, it's over?

WINNER: Layla - Don't blink!

Post-match, it's KHARMA! Layla and Fox are both scared shitless. Well, Layla looks scared shitless. Fox just does some hideous acting. Fox tries to attack Kharma from behind. She gets a BIG clothesline and a Kharma Bomb for her troubles! Layla, smart enough to flee to the ramp, can only watch...and run away to the back. Kharma laughes, as the crowd chants "One more time!"

Backstage, The Corre guys catch up to Ezekiel Jackson in the back. Barrett points out that things haven't been working, so their partnership is being severed. Barrett is sporting enough to let Zeke at least SEE the beatdown coming, so Zeke responds by getting the first blows in. But it's a three-on-one beatdown and Zeke is left laying. So after all this...Ezekiel Jackson is right back where he was six months ago. Now THAT'S...progress?

Ad break

Here's a replay of Jackson getting beaten down.

We go to the announce table, where Chavo Guerrero has grabbed a headset. Yes, I'm shocked he still works here, too.

SIN CARA v. TYSON KIDD
Sin Cara does NOT botch his entrance this week. I think he's got it down. Speaking of guys that still work here, here's Tyson Kidd.

We start with a wrestling sequence that SC wins. Kidd is smart enough to duck the handspring elbow, so SC does another backflip and lands on his feet. Double spinning headscissors takes Kidd down. 'Rana on the outside puts Kidd down, as I can't keep up with all this quickness. Kidd cuts SC off with a seated dropkick. Snap suplex on the outside. Back in the ring, a cover gets 2. Kick to the back gets 2. Kidd misses an apron legdrop. SC hits kicks and hits the handspring elbow. Springboard crossbody gets 2. Kidd wants a Tornado DDT, but SC counters with the Flux Capacitor for 3.

WINNER: Sin Cara - Two-minute special, but it was an awesome two minutes!

Post-match, Chavo comes in and shakes Sin Cara's hand, as we get a staredown. Is this a Sin Cara/Chavo Guerrero feud we're getting? That could be ten different shades of awesome!

Backstage, the demoted Todd Grisham asks Teddy Long if it's fair for Christian to defend the title after Extreme Rules. Teddy Long points out that Orton's coming off a grueling match himself and Raw had a title match the night after the PPV.

Ad break - Wrestlemania DVD promo

RANDY ORTON v. CHRISTIAN: WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
We get the in-ring introductions from Tony Chimel, with both men getting big pops.

We start with a lock-up and Orton gets a side headlock. Christian gets a shoulderblock off a criss-cross. Orton gets a back bodydrop and hammers away. Orton looks for the hanging DDT, but Christian backdrops him out. Baseball slide puts Orton down, but Christian misses the pescado to take us to our next ad break.

We come back with Orton stomping away and going to work with some methodical offense. Orton whips Christian into both corners to wear him down. Here's a whip into the corner with authority for 2. Orton goes to the waistlock. Orton clotheslines Christian over the top to send both men out and take us to our final ad break of the night.

We come back with Christian hitting the chinlock. Orton breaks it, but runs into an elbow for 2. Corner whip is reversed and Orton hits a back suplex. Both men are slow to get up and start exchanging blows. Orton nails a dropkick and clotheslines. Orton misses a corner charge and Christian nails Kofi Kingston's high kick counter. Second-rope dropkick gets 2. Christian looks for his reverse DDT, but Orton fights out of it. Orton tries to dump him, but Christian lands on the apron. Christian hangs Orton on the top-rope. He goes up top and hits a top-rope crossbody for 2. Second-rope spinning elbow hits, as Christian tries to rally the fans. He wants the Killswitch, but runs into the powerslam for 2. Christian tries the Killswitch again, but Orton pushes off. Christian sets up Orton for his floatover slap, but Orton has it scouted and turns it into the hanging DDT for 2! Orton goes for the Angle Slam, but Christian counters into his reverse DDT for 2! Christian pulls him up and Orton hits the Angle Slam! VIPER COIL! RKO is nearly turned into the Killswitch. Orton leapfrogs over the Killswitch attempt, so Christian kicks him in the gut. He springboards off the second-rope, but right into the RKO! Orton covers and gets the pin and the title at 18 minutes!

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: Randy Orton - Umm...what?

No, seriously...what?

Orton celebrates with the title all over the ring. Orton exits up the ramp with the title, as we go to Christian, selling despair in the ring. Crowd cheers for Christian, as if that means anything. Show ends with Christian walking up the ramp a BIG FAT LOSER!

FINAL THOUGHT

What a slap in the face.

I'm almost speechless. So they give us the ultimate feel-good moment on Sunday with Christian celebrating his first world title win in the center of the ring with Edge, only for the E to go "Haha, just kidding!" and put the belt on Orton LESS THAN A WEEK LATER! And after opening the show with that heartfelt promo? It's one thing to feel like Orton was drafted solely to be the show's top guy, but it's another for the E to directly tell us "Want a change of pace with a whole new guy at the top? Well, TOUGH SHIT! We're putting the belt on Orton and doing the same thing we've always done and there's nothing anyone can do to change our minds, so EAT IT!" It's one thing to feel like the company has no faith in Christian as champion, but it's another for them to pull the rug out from under him and not even give him a chance. And that's without even mentioning that it takes Christian's title victory from last Sunday and it really DOES make it look like a fluke! It's a load of crap and it sucks!

So where are we now? Orton's the champion now. Christian's probably turning after this so he could be Orton's first feud, even though having Christian carry on Edge's legacy should have made him one of the biggest faces in the company. Oh, and he's probably never going to actually WIN the title back. And who goes for the title after that? Sheamus? Barrett? I'm SO glad we had the draft so we could get fresh matchups like Orton/Sheamus and Orton/Barrett!

The sad thing is that this was a good show up to the end. The main event was a decent match when you put the result aside. But you can't put the result aside and the end result of this show is just such a kick in the nuts and leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. Thanks for nothing, WWE. Bite me.

I take back everything I said before. Give me the Christian/Mark Henry feud for the world title!

Until next week! The Orton Era begins...again.

It is surprising that they didn't give Christian the Mark Henry feud before starting over with Orton just to ride the moment a little and give the belt and Christian a little credibility.

I feel bad for Christian. He now knows where he stands with the company and he will never be able to move up any higher. I'm not sure what they do with him now.

Dear WWE, you suck. Christian's punishment for jumping to TNA a number of years back is this: holding the world title for a week and dropping it to someone who doesn't need it. Heck, TNA gave him a decent title reign, didn't they?

Let's not even talk about him holding the ECW title, only to drop it to Ezekial Jackson the week ECW was cancelled.

Jay Reso deserves soooo much better than this crap.

To say that I'm appalled would be putting it mildly, but quite frankly I'm not really shocked. Somehow you had to figure that WWE would find a way to screw Christian.

I wouldn't mind seeing Christian turn and feud with Randy Orton, but let's be realistic-- in an Orton/Christian feud, there's no way they'd make Captain Charisma look like a legitimate threat to recapture the belt.

Anyway.

Title Changes

World Heavyweight Championship
New Champion: Randy Orton
2011 Title Changes: Five

This is Randy Orton's second reign as World Heavyweight Champion; he is the 10th individual to win this championship more than once.

As Orton has also won the WWE Championship six times, he is recognized as an eight-time world heavyweight champion.

His previous reign with the World Heavyweight Championship began on 8/15/04 when he defeated Chris Benoit at SummerSlam. He became the youngest world champion in WWE history with that victory, and also did something that fellow Evolution member Triple H had been unable to do in defeating Benoit for the title. Orton was unceremoniously kicked out of Evolution soon afterward, and Triple H defeated him for the title on 9/12/04, making Orton's reign last only 28 days.

Orton ended the reign of Christian which lasted only two days; annoyingly, Christian's reign is now the third-shortest reign with this title in WWE history. The only two reigns that were shorter were Jeff Hardy's first reign (he defeated Edge in a ladder match, and then CM Punk cashed in the Money in the Bank contract), and Dolph Ziggler's reign (losing it to Edge on the same show it was awarded to him).

----

The last time I did one of these, for the Extreme Rules PPV, someone praised me and said he was glad to see I'm a mark for belts.

I might get cured of that quickly. (Even moreso, since someone spoiled the ending of SmackDown for me late Tuesday night).

I am sure someone will come on here and say not to worry look at Jericho's tweets or at least he got a good moment on Sunday or at least was a good match. I am not going to be that person, because this was a slap in the face of Christian and his fans. It also didn't help that Orton's tweets this week made him look like a jackass. If WWE's quick fix to help get the company after Mania is going to the Orton/Cena well for the hundredth time, fuck them. I was going to watch Smackdown or DVR it after Smallville was done and get tickets for this summer, but no. I am going to do what I usually do, go to website, look at the spoilers then wait for the reviews here. Actually, I am going to ask right now CRZ if we can waive the spoiler rules for Smackdown and we can talk about it on Tuesday and no one has to waste their time watching this shit on Friday. Fucking retarded.

I've worked pretty hard to keep this board spoiler free and this week I was about 90% successful (big thanks to everybody here!) ...so you can probably figure out what I think of your request.

Aside from how bad this treatment of Christian is, it's also just plain stupid even if you swallow the WWEthink that Orton is the man and Christian isn't. A face is supposed to chase a title. A face is supposed to have obstacles. You're supposed to make the audience anticipate, want, even NEED to see the face win. Not have him just get placed in the front of the line and win the very first day he set his sights on the title.

Smackdown just gave away two things--Christian as a main eventer, and Orton's quest for the title. Damned if I know what they got for them. Or what is supposed to sell Smackdown now.

And, FWIW, I'm with CRZ on the spoiler thing. I do appreciate how spoiler-free this board is. Lotjx, you still don't have to watch the show, you know.

Ive been furious at this since i heard the spoiler.

Fuck Orton
Fuck the booker that thought it would be a good idea to do this.

Only redemption to this, is to have Orton act like an ass, Christian to move to a "tweener" style role, and chase for the belt.

Nothing else redeems this garbage.

At least Christian can claim to be a world champion now. They could have always had Alberto Del Rio go over and then had Orton take the title away from him somehow. I don't get all this talk about Christian being screwed. Did Vince take food of his children's plates, somehow? (Wikipedia suggests that he doesn't have children, which I find relieving for some reason.) Even a two day title reign is more than Christian was ever likely to get if Edge hadn't gotten hurt. Even his closest friends talk about what an annoying bastard he is, I can only imagine people who aren't good friends with him (i.e WWE Management) find him even more annoying.

I can't seem to find a link at the moment but Lance Storm has talked about it a couple of times on his site. He was ripping on Christian and someone asked him about it and he went into an explanation of how Christian drives even his best friends crazy. I've seen Jericho make reference to it as well.

On a related note, while failing to find the above quote, I did find this relevant quote, when someone commented that they were sure Lance was proud of his friend Christian for winning the TNA championship:

As much I do think Lance has a lot of good points. Sometimes he comes off as the crotchy old man who did marginal work and yet somehow become a prophet due his associations with others as well as work no really saw. So, some retire mid management executive who is the boss' golf partner.

This was quite depressing on Tuesday night. (I accidentally spoiled it for CRZ! Sup!) Actually one of the worst things I've heard. But it's not as bad now that you saw the post-match play out and see that all the emphasis was on Christian being shocked and devastated, and this is going to lead to a turn and a feud. Still a major rug-pulling out, and that sucks. I don't know why they had the great hurry to get the title change and couldn't have just done it at the PPV, other than it was the original plan for Del Rio to get the belt right back on Smackdown so they kept the timeline.

Christian's promo was awesome, the match was awesome (jump to the floor apron punch is avoided and pulled into his rope-hanging DDT? those guys put some thought into this), the finish was really awesome, and Christian's acting in the postmatch was awesome. Christian is probably never going to get the belt back, but at least he'll get a program in the top mix, which is where he's deserved to be all along. Maybe from there this can be for his career like Edge's first title win was for him, a short-term thing that changed decision-makers' minds about him because of how well he did.

This has nothing to do with him going to TNA, come on. It has everything to do with the reasons that led to him going to TNA in the first place.

Could be a combination of doing a title change during their first spring book on the new network coupled with rather having a proven commodity in Orton with the belt during such a time frame than Christian.
Or, giving Orton the belt immediately was part of the deal to convince him to move off RAW and go down to SD.

meltzer said Orton was going to be getting the belt on Tuesday, whether it was Christian or Del Rio that won at the PPV.

Again, I thought that Orton was somehow going to come out of Extreme Rules with the belt, so there is absolutely nothing shocking about this. That said, barring actual, real-world tragic events, this was the saddest episode of Smackdown I've ever watched. I've never seen a wrestler look so utterly, utterly defeated before. Great acting.

Edge has a legacy?

I guess I just can't see the problem with this, but then I've always thought Randy Orton was much better than Christian (or Edge for that matter).
