Time for Mark Henry to climb to the top of the mountain before his ten year contract expires five years ago!

Poor Goldust has the longest history with the company and no World Title to show for it. Lawler totally stole his sympathy angle.
If his marriage hadn't gone south, I'm sure he might have found the inner strength for one last shot at the top. Frankly, given all the news around TNA lately, they owe him a title run for never suing the company for worker's comp even though several employees (future world champions, even!) brutally assaulted him to the point of giving him a delibitating nervous disorder.

I don't want to be the turd in the punch bowl because I know Christian is a good guy and he has taken his lumps through the years, but the guy isn't World Title material. He's a better heel than a face and his best asset other than mic work is bumping. Right time, right place and the secondary title ... hey good for him. Nothing wrong with being lucky.

If Cena was just going to win the title this month anyway, I think they should have just had him go over at WrestleMania and had The Rock get heat on him some other way. It would have been better to have Cena chasing the title a little longer, I think.
No complaints about Christian winning, though. I think SmackDown has the pieces in place to make it entertaining and building up new main eventers.
Kinda reminds me of 2000 when Backlash had a more satisfying ending.

I'm curious to see how Christian adapts to this new role. He's always been the guy chasing the title, but for the first time, he'll be the one that's being chased. He did pretty well with his ECW practice run. I'm sure there are doubters and skeptics out there, but I think Christian can win them over. It's going to depend on how he's booked over the next month. If he comes out of the gate and loses a non-title match clean to Sheamus or Mark Henry, then yeah, this title reign's probably doomed to failure.
I would hope they'd have learned that lesson from Rey's first title reign and Swagger's disastrous reign from last year enough to NOT job the champion clean right away! Third time's the charm.
What I'm gathering is that most here feel this Christian-as-World-Champ thing is legit, and that he'll hold the title longer than a week, even tho most do recognize this as a token victory. I wish I had your faith. As Justin pointed out, Sheamus is in the right spot to take the belt immediately, if not sooner.
A Christian/Sheamus or Christian/Henry feud would nicely parallel Christian's run as TNA's champ, and he blossomed in that aggressive underdog role.
I'm curious as to whether Christian will have more leeway in his promos now that he's top dog. He doesn't have to worry about eclipsing someone higher up the ladder, to maintain a respectful midcard simmer.

Has anybody considered the possibility that word got through the back that bin Laden was killed and that they immediately hot-shotted the title onto Cena, being Captain America and what not?

To what purpose? Cena being champion isn't going to get them any mainstream media attention. Cena may regularly pay his respects to the military but I don't think they especially give a shit about him. I'd say it's more likely so that Cena can rub the title in The Rock's face tonight, pointing out that he won it regardless of The Rock's attempt to prevent it from happening at Wrestlemania, so as to goad Rocky into a Summerslam match.

I am going in with the same expectations I had for CM Punk's first reign as a babyface on Raw where I thought it might end literally any week or any title match he was in. The nice thing for him is that it's just Smackdown so there's no pressure, but there's always the chance that Vince wakes up one day and decides they need the belt on Kane.
The funny thing about Orton is he worked with Sheamus and Barrett on PPV a bunch just last fall so those will be reruns to an extent. Orton/Cody has history but Cody coming off a loss would still need building to work at Orton's level. Then again, every heel on that side does.

Well, it was mentioned in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that John Cena mentioned it at the PPV. It was in an Entertainment blog, but it got a mention.
The next person to work their way up to the top should be someone who has been around for years, is incredibly over with the crowd, and is on a winning streak. Michael Cole, come on down, your the next contestant in 'He has put in the time to be world champion.'

I tend to agree. Having Miz retain at Mania made his reign into a bigger deal, and one would think WWE had gone all in on him at that stage. Not saying he'd have to hold the belt forever, but I was thinking they'd at least build to a big Cena/Miz Summerslam rematch and Cena would get the title there.

This was a very good show! Maybe it was just my spectacularly low expectations. Three very good matches (Orton V. Punk/Rey V. Cody/Cena V. Morrison V. Miz) and one great match (the ladder match). The only thing that causes me to think the Christian reign is legit is the degree of airtime they gave it. It was genuine emotion, one of those rare moments where the personal reality of the workers supercedes the pre-determined-ness of it all, if y'know what I mean.
Hey Eke! Have I ever told you how much I love your title change write-ups. They're great. They make me sad, because you put more thought into the title scene than WWE does, but I love that you're as big a mark for belts as I am.
