Thanks to GSP's eye injury and Jake Shields' weak-ass striking (and odd reluctance to try for takedowns), the main event was pretty poor. Other than that, this was arguably the best UFC event I've ever seen.
* The massive Toronto crowd and the Wrestlemania-esque setting
* Machida retiring Randy Couture with a CRANE KICK
* Mark Hominick's heart in fighting back despite the giant hematoma on his forehead
* Rory MacDonald suplexing Nate Diaz around like a rag doll
* John Makdessi's spinning backfist
* Pablo Garza's flying triangle
* Ivan Menjivar's short elbow of death
All in all, just a spectacular show.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
I caught the last three matches. Two of them were amazing.
The Crane Kick was just nasty. I didn't know that really worked.
I've never seen anything like the hematoma on Hominick's head before. At first I was shocked that someone could have something like that on their head, then I was shocked they let him fight with it and most shocking was then he fought well with it.
Shields must not have known how badly GSP was hurt. GSP on the eye after the match...

... so they ask him more questions. The shot to the eye just looked like a plain old straight jab, but it landed in a way that it could turn into one of those flukey serious injuries. Hopefully, not.

As I was telling the group of people watching it with me, the announcers did say Hominick was having a kid any day now. They didn't say he wasn't having it THROUGH HIS FACE.

Back when I was in high school, I used to brag that I was only a scant five seconds off the world record pace... Now of course, instead of a stopwatch they'd time me with a calendar
