I've been trying to reply to the Stanley Cup thread in Hockey for a while now, but each time I get told by Avast there is a HTML:Script-inf issue and it stops the connection.

Now I have absolutely no clue how this stuff works, but a quick Google of it mentions this is some problem in coding. Could this get checked out?

As near as I can tell, there's nothing in that thread that isn't in every other thread on the board. Is there anything else you can give me?

Ugh. I had to go and jump on another computer to reply.

That's all the information I really have. I can't reply to any message, send a PM, or view a new thread after I've created it. Avast pops up with the error every time and stops the connection.

Doing more Googling on this, it appears to be something that's widespread and happening pretty recently - maybe even just started yesterday or today. Avast seems to be the main culprit, and it has to do with ads somehow registering false positives with Avast.

Well, it's probably either Quantcast or Google Analytics then. Unfortunately, LOTS of websites use one and/or the other.

I'd say disable Web Shield until they throw you an update to undo the last update.

(I notice the Avast! site is down, so there must be a lot of people trying to figure out what's up.)

((This is all over Twitter, by the way, although you probably can't access Twitter at the moment. ;-) ))

I'm on my non-Avast backup desktop and everything's fine here. Perusing Twitter lead to a couple news articles and it looks like it's Avast themselves, and not the actual ad people:

Avast Antivirus Problems (psionet.co.uk)

If you are a user of the popular Avast anti-virus software, don’t be surprised if you are having problems tonight. It seems the latest update has caused a lot of problems and one of the symptoms is that it blocks websites warning of a fake trojan. It’s reporting it on many websites such as YouTube. Avast are apparently aware of this latest problem and will issue a new update by tomorrow.

If you haven’t yet experienced any problems it may be because your Avast hasn’t updated yet. In which case we strongly advise that you switch off the auto update feature temporarily until the fixed update is released.

Seems the Avast support forum at http://forum.avast.com is down at the moment - probably been inundated with complaints from users. Twitter is full of #avast complaints too.

If you do have the problem already some people are advising that you switch off the ‘Web Shield’ until the patch is released. However this isn’t recommend as you will open yourself up to security threats.

I have avast, and I attempted to update it before BoromirMark's link told me not to, and I'm still not having any problems with the playoff thread in Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer.

So I don't know if it's fixed or if I am not experiencing the problem for some reason or what. Very strange.

Did you change what happens when you click on a random quote? I seem to recall when it first came out it would go directly to that post. Now it just goes to the top of the thread that the quote was in. Or maybe I'm crazy. EDIT: Ah I see.
