The Recap for TNA Impact 4.7.11, Taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

We open with a recap of Christopher Daniels' triumphant return last week and here comes the man to open the show. "I've been in and out of TNA so many times there should be a revolving door with my name on it." He understands that is the nature of the business and says it's the friendships that you make while in the business that are important. He talks about a friendship he made eight years ago with AJ Styles and seeing what Bully Ray did to him made him come back. He formally asks Fortune to include him in the Lockdown 8-man, but here's Immortal with the interruption. Flair says he doesn't even know who Daniels is, but he knows that someone's gonna get hurt at Lockdown, so it's best Daniels left. Daniels suggests that Flair take that offer and do unhealthy things with it, so Flair switches from threats to LOGIC~ by pointing out that he has no contract with TNA. Daniels says the Network wants him there and that's the cue for Hogan and Bischoff. So what, exactly, is "The Network"? Is it an all-controlling mysterious backstage entity? Does it have a face? A representative? Bischoff says the network gets what they want. Hogan wants to show that he's still in charge, though, so he books Ray v Daniels tonight. Ray says Daniels wants none of this and boasts about he can put Daniels on the bed next to AJ. Ray tells him to go back to California and put on more mascara and nail paint, but Daniels fires back with "You shouldn't worry about all that until the guy wearing it starts beating your ass!" And them's fighting words, leading to your obligatory TTNAPAB(tm)! 1 for 1 It was well-done before the stupid and utterly predictable brawl, and decent mic work from all involved, though I could've done without Bischoff and Hogan.

Anderson is on a laptop backstage but receives a note from Sting, saying "last week was just a trailer, tonight it's SHOWTIME! Your friend, Stinger." Anderson wants flowers. Cute. Then he goes back to his laptop, humming something I can't recognize.

Hogan rants about the Network and surmises that there must be a wrestler behind it because the Network thinks like a wrestler.

Match 1: Mexican America (Hernandez/Anarquia w/ Sarita and Rosita) v Tommy Dreamer/D-Von.
That's a rather random team. D-Von is no longer "Brother." Anarquia looks rather talentless. Mexican America has LAX written all over it, except it has Hernandez as it's leader so it's bound to fail. This starts out as a tag match but breaks down quickly. Anarquia takes What's Up and that's the cue for Rosita to run interference. D-Von kisses her for reasons unknown to me, allowing Anarquia to chair him behind the ref's back for the pin in 2 minutes. That was a mess. 1 for 2 Postmatch, Mexican America (a hideous name, but not as bad as "The Corre") lay the boots to the faces and Hernandez nearly Border Tosses Dreamer before Matt Morgan makes the save. Hernandez bails, leaving Anarquia to the wolves, and he takes a chokeslam.

Winter is backstage, continuing her brainwashing operation. Well, as long as Angelina drinks the Voodoo Juice, she doesn't have to make the effort. Someone used the name "Voodoo Juice" for the drink in the last thread, and it's catchy so I'm sticking with it. Winter tells her she loves her. Aw.

Match 2: Samoa Joe v Murphy
Somebody's gonna get squashed like a fly here. Pope is on commentary but doesn't have a chance to say much of anything before Joe finishes with the Koquina Clutch in about 45 seconds. Joe chases off Pope afterwards, as TNA suddenly remembered about this feud after making absolutely no mention of it last week. 1 for 3

Anderson walks around backstage looking for coffee. There's another note for him there, saying "let's finish what we started, Kenny Boy." Anderson takes his ire out on coffee, presumably pissed about being called "Kenny Boy." Is it just me or does this make Sting look like a chump? What kind of weakass mind game involves leaving little notes to people?

Match 3: The Beautiful People v Sarita and Rosita
Angelina is still in zombie mode so she can't do the entrance properly. Well, damn. Velvet actually dominates both heels one-on-one but gets no response on a tag offer. She acts all surprised. What, was she not paying attention the last five minutes? Winter appears to motion to Angelina, who snaps Velvet's neck off the ropes and attacks her, leading to an easy pin by Rosita in about 2 minutes. This match made Velvet Sky look like a total idiot. This angle is dying a slow, painful death. Unless it leads to three-way lesbian sex, I don't see any worthwhile payoff. 1 for 4.

Anderson, now pissed off about the little notes, is hunting for Sting with a pipe when he runs into Young and Jordan. Young helpfully points out that Sting is likely to be in the rafters. Did Anderson not know that? Has he not watched any TNA show featuring Sting? Jordan makes thinly veiled comments about wanting to buttfuck Anderson, but Kenny Boy, being the champ he is, takes it (pardon the pun) in good humor.

Jarrett has a promise for Angle for Lockdown...later.

Anderson heads up to the rafter but there's no one there. He's followed by RVD, who is in Sting's trenchcoat. He says it's 4:20 and Anderson is about to get smoked. Then he beats the holy hell out of Anderson, locking in a triangle choke before choking him out with the pipe. "See you later, Asshole." 2 for 5 Mostly a hit for the beatdown, in which Anderson did not get in a single shot. The earlier conversation with Young/Jordan was mildly amusing as well. What was not cool was the mic picking up some pretty grating sounds from the equipment in the rafters.

Sting heads to the ring and calls out RVD. The reason he came to TNA was to cleanse it of Hogan and Bischoff but he keeps getting distracted by RVD. RVD seems to remember Sting bashing his brains in repeatedly with a baseball bat. Sting apologizes for that, but says he will not be a pawn in RVD's game with Anderson. Rob says things have changed, which is proven wrong immediately as Hogan and Bischoff head down to the NWO music. Hogan says he likes RVD's new attitude and rewards him with Sting v RVD, non-title, tonight.

Outside, Tara says Madison is insane and won't do whatever it is they had planned to do. Madison reminds her that she has a job in TNA because of her, but Tara is not comfortable. They get on a motorcycle and drive away.

Anderson, reeling from the earlier attack, used his pipe to smash pictures of Sting and RVD off the wall. There, there, Kenny Boy. It'll be ok.

Match 4: Generation Me and Robbie E v Suicide, Brian Kendrick, and Chris Sabin
Random! The faces take turns beating Robbie into pulp and then beat up on Max for a bit. There's a 9-man X-division escape cage match at Lockdown. The heels just can't catch a break as Kendrick beats up on them until finally Jeremy gets the upper hand and heads to the top, only for Max to crotch and DDT him. Kendrick gets the pin from that DDT in 5 minutes. Incoherent match, but it was fast and well executed, so it gets a hit. 3 for 6 Postmatch, The Gen-Me breakup is finalized, because one less tag team is exactly what we needed.

In his room, Hogan chews out Rob Terry and Murphy for failing to live up to the Immortal name and has Gunner slap them. He's like a bad 80s B-movie villain. Anderson walks in and says that he's tired of getting beat up and wants a favor - he wants the ref spot in Sting v RVD. Hogan rightly asks what's in it for him, and Anderson replies with "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours." Hogan shakes hands on it and says he's been waiting for this day for a long time. He tells Ken to bring his pipe to the ring.

Outside, Tara and Madison pull their bike off a presumably run-over Mickie James, who receives medical attention afterwards. Were they supposed to do that unseen? Because they failed quite miserably as the camera guy caught them before and after the act. Plus Madison screeching the whole time probably didn't help.

Match 5: Lumberjack Match: Bully Ray v Christopher Daniels
The lumberjacks are Immortal and Fortune, who spend much of the time brawling with each other. Ray takes over early, only to get dumped outside. He lands in front of Immortal, though, so he's ok. Ray snaps off some chops but stops to go after the chain, which gets him nowhere. Daniels makes the comeback with his signature stuff and lands the BME for 2. That really should've been the finish. Instead, the ref gets distracted by the lumberjacks' brawling, allowing Hogan to tonk Daniels with the chain for the pin in 6 minutes. Way to put over your returning star! Ray is about the level of the proverbial broomstick and no amount of carrying can lift his matches to the watchable category. It sets up for Lockdown but the booking was monumentally stupid and only reaffirms my doubts about TNA's utter lack of talent when it comes to handling guys like Chris Daniels. 3 for 7

The cage is lowered as Jeff Jarrett makes his announcement. Jarrett says last week Angle got himself arrested like a "common street thug," but if the cage match had happened earlier, Jarrett would've been the one being arrested for hurting Kurt. Seriously, who writes this shit? He says the kids won't visit Angle in jail because they want Daddy Jeff at the moment. Jeff says Karen has some words, but instead Angle's music plays and he rappels in just as the fourth wall of the cage gets set up, trapping Jarrett. Karen runs out and the distraction allows Jeff to get the hell outta dodge. Backstage, Angle says the police knew Karen was acting and so he was let go. He says the Network has added a stipulation for their match at Lockdown, but doesn't say what it is. Maybe the cage will have a roof? Simple but effective. 4 for 8 Call me crazy but I was into this. Yes, it's a boneheaded move to go ahead with the angle despite Kurt getting arrested for real, but now that they're moving with it, they're doing a good job.

Match 6: Rob Van Dam v Sting (Special Ref Kenny Boy Anderson)
They trade blows until RVD lands the Rolling Thunder for 2 and argues the count. Sting fires back with the Stinger Splash but that gets 2 as well, and now he argues the count. Actually both counts were fine. They tumble outside, and Anderson tries to count them out, but they're in at 9. That count *was not* fine, as Anderson counted from 1 to 9 in about two seconds. Sting catches Rob in the Scorpion Deathdrop but Anderson drops him with the Mic Check. Van Dam hits the ***** Frog Splash for the pin in 4 minutes. Postmatch, Anderson wallops him with the Title belt, and asks "are you ok, buddy?" That almost saves the whole thing. Rob Terry and Murphy head to the ring to hoist Anderson on their shoulders and clap their approval. Hogan joins the festivities, and he and Anderson blow some kisses to each other! Anderson drops both Terry and Murphy with Mic Checks, which draws Hogan's ire as he realizes that he just got played. Hogan exits stage left after calling Anderson a SOB, and that closes out the show. 4 for 9 The postmatch stuff nearly saves it, but the fact is, this was a badly-booked, badly-wrestled, four-minute main event, and I can't forgive that.

Wrestling Counter: 20 minutes.

The Score: 4 for 9: Yeah, it's better than last week, but really, last week was such a clanker that this had nowhere to go but up. It was a more focussed show, and the slower pace helps reduce the ADD effect. But it's still horribly booked, there's not a single clean ending in sight, and it continues to highlight all the flaws of Russo's booking style without really bringing to the fore any of his strong points. The build towards Lockdown continues, and some of the feuds are picking up heat. For me, personally, this was a bit of chore to sit through, but I'll take that over the ADD any day of the week. And at some point, Impact must start delivering more wrestling. That's all I got.

Yes, that was a pretty unfortunate episode title given the content.

The things they changed from the live version is adding the cruiser weight match to the main show and the backstage segments. The segments made the show less confusing if you can believe that. Again, like I said in the earlier post, the show was just ok, I liked their house show better to be honest.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Daniels is to TNA what Chris Jericho was to WCW: talented and pretty much over with the crowd but never given a meaningful run against a big name.

The obvious piped in crowd noises were particularly grating during the RVD/Anderson bit (which went on why too long).

I'm also not sure what was up with the Anderson segment after in which he showed absolutely no signs of having been laid out (plus being able to referee an entire match as if nothing happened).

I think he was used pretty well from 02-06 but after that he's been wasted. The Triple X-AMW feud was awesome and their cages match were two of the best matches in TNA history. Daniels' feud and matches with Styles in early '05 was pretty great and the three way feud betweeen Styles, Daniels and Joe lead to the best matches in TNA history and imo was the best feud in the companies history. The Daniels-Styles tag team was pretty great and I loved their matches with AMW and L A X. Great old school type tag matches.

Why does ROH not have televised PPV anymore? Are they getting it back anytime soon? I've been wanting to get back into it, but saw that the shows are Internet PPV and I don't really want to watch a show at my computer.
