Yeahhh... I was basically just setting you up for your catchphrase there.

(It looks like Sheamus is also in the "Small Plans" bin right now too.)

Apparently Superstars taping was Regal/R-Truth and Santino & Kozlov/Zack Ryder & Primo.

Cole sounded significantly dialed back on commentary in the last half of the show. It was much better to hear.

I like what Miz is doing for this road to WrestleMania, and I'm delighted to see him play the heel champ going into the big PPV.

Shawn's comments about conflicting emotions over the Hunter/Taker match were nicely done. That's the kind of depth he can bring to an angle, and it shows how simplistic the majority of other stories are.

The Onion A/V Club decided to cover last night's RAW. It's a rather impressive, well-considered analysis. (The Onion's wrestling credibility has always been surprisingly strong too. A writer for The Onion wrote the screenplay for The Wrestler.)

Am I the only one who liked the Josh Matthews/Jerry Lawler announce team?

Liked that (hopefully) Miz is all done with A-Ry ... I think Miz needs to stand on his own as a credible, badass champ & and I hope that's the direction he's going ... I was afraid that he was on the picking-up-Stephanie-McMahon's-dog's-poop route ...

So does Triple H/Undetaker go on last at WM?

Glad you mentioned this. One of the best under the radar things WWE has done in the past year is the gradual promotion of Josh Mathews to the near top of the announcing food chain. Josh is the unheralded star made by NXT (especially in season 3) and it's great he's on RAW and Smackdown as the sane, intelligent voice of WWE to balance out Cole's act. When it's all said and done, Josh might end up being, in his own way, the most successful Tough Enough hopeful of all.

As for the night after and the Monday after that, I guess it didn't work.

They've got real small plans for John Morrison.

After jobbing in 3 minutes last week and not booked for Raw this week, it does make you wonder why he was even in EC in the first place. I sense he may be the first MITB winner to fail when he attempts to cash in.

I think Morrison's either gonna win Money in the Bank or he's gonna be future endeavored during spring cleaning. And that goes double for R-Truth (except for the winning Money in the Bank part).

No. Cena/Miz has a lot going for them. It has the title, Cena being an established star, Miz being the up and coming heel and of course, Rock being involved. I do think HHH/Taker will be given the most time due it being a "dream match" as well as their positions in the company and their bodies will need the extra time. HBK/Taker II was anomaly.

Is it too early to start a pool for the post-WM house cleaning?

I wanna agree with you, but I'm also dismayed to see Morrison take two steps back when he went face. IC title, yes. Disappearance of mic skills, also yes. Miz, in contrast, remained virtually intact, and hit the main event.

Also? Shorts. Shorts = success. Miz doffed the denims and went big time. Morrison refuses to swap the tights, and as he clings to the full leggings, he cannot grab the brass ring.

Shelton Benjamin was a surprise release, but he hadn't gotten anywhere near the sustained push Morrison received from Survivor Series to Elimination Chamber. He's only been off TV a week - I don't think it's a sign he's going to be let go. He's more likely to get sent back to SmackDown yet again.

It seems like everyone besides Miz and the Nexus is a face to at least half the people. Heck, even in Rock/Cena people want to cheer the both of them.

I think - in retrospect - that having the Rock call out Cena was a mistake, because now the Miz is an afterthought. Of course, if the Miz cut a sincere "I'm am NOT an afterthought. I'm the WWE CHAMPION."-promo he could take care of that, I think. He's become a bit paint-by-numbers lately, though, and with the Rock in town he needs to step up his game.

And welcome back, Evan Bourne. Your Shooting Star Press is still the prettiest move in wrestling.

-I think they are blowing the HHH/UT feud already. HHH didn't mention Shawn once. The emotion of having HHH fight for vengence for his friend would bring in a lot more emotion than doing Highlander.

-Man did HHH bury the roster or what? Basically saying that he and Taker were so far superior to everyone else that it was a waste of time to even get in the ring with anyone but each other.

-Ceba blows it this week after having his best promo in years last week. Weak work by Cena, but I do approve of getting rid of Riley.

-Rock brings the awesome once again. Can't remember a Rock promo that was that serious or ANGRY. I was hoping he'd say something like, "I opened the door to Hollywood and the best you could do was THE MARINE?" Again, as awesome as this all is, it is stupid to do if they want Cena Vs Miz to be a match that anyone cares about.

The easy solution to all of this was to have Morrison win EC. He could face Miz instead of wandering around in the back last night and Cena/Rock could be the dream match. Rock looks fit and he could use the almost two months since he came back to train plus wrestle one more time on Raw.

Yet, I think HHH/Taker is the dream match or seen as the dream match, so there is no need for a second dream match. However, the point of Mania is to get the best match-ups they can instead of giving us one giant match with a bunch of matches that could easily take place on Raw or Smackdown or have already done so prior to Mania.

At this point as much as Miz can scream to the heavens he is the champ, the problem is no one cares. He can fuck over Cena til the end of time, but the fans want Cena/Rock. This is one of the last great matches wrestling has to offer and the fact Rock is bringing his A game ups the ante. He is pretty much in no man's land as far as the fans are concerned.

The booking for Miz as champ as been awful. His only good match was with Morrison where he won clean then he disappeared into the blackhole of Lawler needs a match at Mania storyline. His matches with Orton got zero heat and beating up old guys is not going to do him any favors. Cena has not helped him at all and I am beginning to question if Cena is not the next HHH where he buries everyone on the mic and in the ring for no reason then to secure his spot. Cena has been sliding on Hardy pops after the Nexus storyline and it showed last night. I do feel bad for Miz, they still have time to fix this with Miz beating up Rock or something. However, we are looking at HHH/Jericho at X-8 with Rock in the Steph role.

Man, they're just targeting my favorite guys on the roster at this point.

They'll probably forget about it by next week, but McGillicutty and Riley were both specifically barred from being at Wrestlemania with their losses last night, and the same will probably happen to Otunga next week, and Husky is already in a vegetative state. Are they trying to cut back on WM payday appearances this year? Hopefully, Tarver still gets to show up randomly backstage at Mania and gets some cash for it, though I was hoping they'd just have him randomly standing in the ring, staring, during the UT/HHH Mime Off last week.

Booking solution: Bellas try to pull Twin Magic at Wrestlemania (Crowd is mildy angry, but mostly doesn't care), Eve stops them by throwing the illegal twin off the apron before she can get in, injuring her (Crowd is mildly happy, but mostly doesn't care). Official then somehow gets distracted, allowing Eve to throw the healthy, legal Bella out of the ring and roll the injured, non-legal Bella in to pin her instead, retaining the title and destroying the effectiveness of the partner switch/Twin Magic for the next few years. (Crowd is confused, but mostly doesn't care.)

This would be a considerably better payoff to UT/Kane than HHH pulling a classic HHH on Sheamus. Undertaker just straight up killing Kane with Kane's own Deadly Mystical Lightning would be a perfectly logical and satisfying end to their storied history, especially if they went the MacGruber/R-Truth way and Kane blew up, leaving only his boots. Then maybe Josh Matthews could say something in a hushed voice about Kane leaving his boots/severed feet on the stage, and what does that mean? Then he could turn to high-five Cole, but Cole wouldn't be there because he has a match and Josh Matthews would suddenly realize how alone in the world we truly all are.

What is the story on the supposed Kevin Dunn/Sheamus feud, anyway? I know somebody here posted something about Dunn coming up with the king outfit (I guess as a way to make Sheamus look like an idiot) after the show where he ran to Cena for help from Nexus, but that's more of a bad writing issue than anything Sheamus did. If anything, over the summer he was the rare case of a guy going from "Why are they pushing him?" status to someone who hung in there and proved he was credible. Now they've eroded all that, and in the process, are bringing Danielson down with him and made Bourne's return pointless.

I appreciate the consonance in the phrase "doffed the denims", while simultaneously being repulsed by it. It's an interesting point however, especially after both the Miz and The Rock declared a Jort Jihad last night. By defeating and retiring noted long-pants enthusiast Shawn Michaels last year (and with fellow never-calf-nude Edge on his own retirement schedule), the Undertaker truly is the Pants Outlaw.

Next year's streak match: The Undertaker vs. the Wrestlemania XVIII Logo. Undertaker cuts a "Neil Armstrong is angry at the Moon on SNL" promo at it.

Answer? Very. Many folks were NOT happy they had plugged him prior to the show and during the show, but never noting he wasn't going to actually be there. I put two and two together when they weren't advertising him for a live appearance, but I can understand other fans being upset.

Two squash matches and a two minute Diva battle royal in the first hour and half really laid the groundwork for this fantastic storyline. The part where the announcers were bragging about the 16,000 fans SELLING OUT the arena was nice subtle touch.

I've never felt so bad for a live crowd - which made their face turn so great. That part when they sat on their hands for the Rock and HBK pretapes was quite the shocking swerve. The WWE clearly got the last laugh though, when they hyped Austin LIVE the next week and then teased an actual match with Bryan.

THIS x1,0000.

That was a terrible, terrible Raw to be there live for. Two weeks ago, Rock returned. Last week, it was Triple H and Taker. Next week, Steve Austin. This week...well, we got Evan Bourne!

We also got just over 20 minutes of in-ring action, Sheamus being squashed out of the building, a trademark Triple H promo (which I thoroughly heckled), more John Cena gay jokes (EDGY!), Daniel Bryan getting attacked before he could have a match which could've been the bright spot of the show, The Rock in a pre-tape followed by HBK in a pre-tape, no HOF announcement, and Alex Riley getting broken up from The Miz after being one of the more entertaining acts the WWE has. Did I cover everything? Not a lot to like here, and it was really surreal how silent the crowd was during Miz's attack on Bryan. We had clearly had enough by that point.

The stipulation was that if Alex Riley lost, Miz had to fire him. There's never been anything said about Riley having a WWE contract, it's always been stated that he's signed to a personal support contract by The Miz. Thus there's nothing preventing Miz from rehiring him next week. Or even nothing preventing Riley from just hanging out with the Miz for free. After all, if you're being mentored by the WWE Champion, who cares if he's paying you?

No offense, but I hope that doesn't happen. Something about using Eddie's death to get Chavo over doesn't sit right with me. They did the tribute, then moved on this week with little to no mention of Eddie.
