TNA's bigest problem here is the hyping of the "shocking surprise of the year" when they knew it was anytihng but. Either that hype was supposed to be a shot at the fans who worked themselves up over Sting in WWE, which is just stupid, or they genuinely thought that such a bait-and-switch was okay. Either way, they're cretins.

Had they run this video tonight with no hype and not at the end of the show, or even last week and then again tonight, it might have gotten a few eyerolls but you could see the argument that this was TNA having a little fun. By hyping it as a game-changer they're showing massive contempt for the audience and damaging their already-shot credibility even further.

Looking ahead at the spoilers it's also clear that the anticipation of Sting finally hitting WWE has them convinced that Sting should be their franchise player, which is hilarious, sad, and completely unsurprising all at the same time.

I think you are making a bigger deal of TNA's statement then TNA did. They said it was the surprise of the year which in reality its a surprise since none of us knew for sure Sting was coming back. We could guess, but thats about all you can do in this business. We don't have ESPN to break contract deals, so we have to rely on the dirt sheets which themselves are not always right. Was it as shocking as Rock coming back, Fortune turning face or the number of other things that has happened in the last few months, probably not, yet it was still a surprise.

Sting is a franchise player for TNA and has been since he joined them. He sells merchandise, can sometimes pop a rating and puts on decent matches. He is not as broken down as Hogan and still go at times. If he was such an after thought why did most of the IWC go as someone put it "Sting Crazy"? He is the last major player not to go to the WWE even though we have know they have made offers to him in the past. I don't agree they should what they are going to do with him in the coming weeks, yet if the IWC and people are psyched about him then why not throw him out there on the big stage. If you have a product that is in demand, you don't hide it away, you move it out to the front. You hit while the iron is hot. That business 101.

I am not sure what the ratings will be and I think Inverse is wrong. Rock coming back obviously had effect on the ratings, his overrun jumped by a million households when he was on. They had a 3.1 last week, now they have a 3.9, its not all about the Elimination Chamber results or 2/21/11 either, people want to see the Rock. Taker's returned before with a nice pop in the ratings and nothing this huge nor has an after PPV show hit that number in awhile. Ignore that is proving one's blindness to facts. Now, the question is do people want to see Sting, the ratings for next week will tell.

Based on the link that was posted I think we're all glossing over the BIGGEST bit of news from that clip:

They've signed ANGELINA from the Jersey Shore! I mean if there's a cast member from that show you want, it's definitely the one who quit early in the 1st season and the rest of the cast kicked out in the 2nd and isn't even on the show anymore. What a coup! I mean ANGELINA from the Jersey Shore, wow!

On the other hand, I had never seen a picture of Dixie Carter before (I was envisioning someone much older and well older), and while I doubt I'll remember to tune in to see her confront Hulk Hogan, if I stumble across it while changing channels (which isn't likely on a NBC Comedy Thursday night) I could conceivably stick around to see if she looks as good live, but probably not.

And I'll echo the notion that it was a WWE run for Sting that had me intrigued, and tuning in to watch him do whatever the TNA brain trust would have him do has me intrigued not at all.

You can blame the IWC for creating the fan frenzy for Sting which is true, but WWE doesn't mind that buzz, hell its better then a fan watching thinking "Oh, Taker is coming back and what do you know just in time for Mania, shocking. Whats on the NFL network." The Sting talk helped sell the 2/21/11 and I do think they changed their plans of having someone on the level of HHH being Taker's foe at Mania then Wade or Kane.. In reality, they wanted Brock and Dana White said no

I just find it funny how people go on and on about how Vince is the only game in town and Sting after almost 30 years of being in this business even with a giant payday at times has told him, no. After reading the spoilers, while I don't agree with what happens, it is a bigger deal then Taker and HHH miming their way through 15 minutes while the crowd hypes themselves up for a fight they will have to pay $65 to see.

Part of me wants to scream "FUCKING SHUT UP~!", but, that would just egg you on more.

Also, loved Tazz's exclamation about ODB's tits: "They're bigger!" That was about all I remembered about the show besides Angle's facial hair.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEAK.

Unless he turns out to be a last-second buyer of TNA and gets to boss around Dixie and Hogan, there's nothing new for him here. And I'd advocate that as it would keep him and his bat our of the ring.

P.S. I'm a fan of day-glo Sting wearing drum major jackets. Not dark, bat-wielding Sting. You bring back the original flavor, and I watch out of nostalgia.

I agree. Though instead of funny, I'd say interesting.
Has Sting ever talked about why he refuses to go to the WWE?
He is really the one 'modern era' icon who hasn't gone wrestled there, and if even Bret Hart can return to the "family" then what's Sting's reason?

I'll be good and keep it under wraps..but.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Sting beats Jeff Hardy on 3/3 for the title
I assume it will make the fans present cheer.
But isn't this just "Oh great, now the old guy is the focus again..along with the other old guys"?

And those 2 WWE old-timers (HHH and UT) might be the focus to spike a WM buyrate, but the rest of the card is filled with younger guys fighting for the belts etc.
What happened in TNA won't make people go "wow! Oh wait...again? Meh, I might see what happens next week....."
What happens in WWE is "wow! This could be epic! I might be willing to spend some money on it!"

I like competition in my wrestling biz as much as anybody, but after this surprise of the year I really just wish Vince would open up his checkbook, buy TNA, and get to work on those Angle and Sting retrospective DVDs already.

Sorry as much as all the garbage TNA puts out there I don't wanna see Wrestlers losing their jobs just because you wanna see the WWE put out Angle and Sting dvds.

You can bet that Vince wants the TNA library if only for that purpose.

Since nobody is going to start a thread about the show in general, I'd just like to add that as I was walking by the TV, I went ahead and flipped it over to Spike for the first time in I'm not sure how many months to help me remember to go back in and see what the surprise was. The very first thing I saw was Eric Young taking off his pants in the middle of a match. And I'm okay with that.

Neither did TNA. They said it was the surprise of the year. Considering the person returning to TNA was just rumored to have signed with the WWE a couple of weeks ago, I'd say that qualifies it as a surprise.

You guys are awfully easy to please. They promised you *the surprise of the year*, and they delivered something that vaguely qualified as a surprise, so that works? I think I'd like to sell you some stuff--I guarantee that at least one word in the description will be true. B^)

Yeah; but I think you sort of have to have low expectations when it comes to TNA. They've proven again and again that they will almost never deliver on what they promise.

I disagree. What happened at the tapings SHOULD be a big deal, but it'll likely be lost in the shuffle just like every similar situation in TNA has been, and will be forgotten in another month or two.

What happened on Raw is building to what could be the main event at Wrestlemania with two of the biggest stars of the last ten years in pro wrestling. It's memorable because of the unique situation where neither man said a word. I just don't see how what happened at the tapings can be considered a bigger deal.

If TNA could pull of Brian Lee vs Jeff Farmer, I think I would actually buy a TNA PPV for the first time since the very last weekly $10 show. (Now that I check dates, that was the last time I watched a wrestling PPV, legitimately, rented or pirated.)

TNA doesn't pay half of it's performers diddly, why would you expect Vince to?

Also, I'm sure AJ Styles, er Stylez, would be put to use, as would Samoa "Hey, Remember why the WWE Came Up with Umaga?" Joe.

One other question about last night's show. Has Bischoff been doing the "Wait for it...... wait for it....................." thing for a while? Man, that was irritating.

Where did I say I expected him to do that? Joe was a free agent at the end of last year and from I've read The WWE showed little to no interest and that's why he re-signed with TNA. As far as Styles, I don't think he'd get a chance to be much more than a midcarder in the WWE.
