So apparently the HOT RUMORZ is that this shocking announcement is the signing of someone a lot of us were clamoring for as the mysterious 02/21/11, log cabin stalker type.
Color me underwhelmed.

I guess I'm missing what a taping for next week's Impact has to do with tonight's pre-recorded Impact, unless TNA thinks that the key to avoid spoilers is to have brief live spots.

If they had an actual worthwhile surprise, I could see the logic of having a week to get the word out and then have them appear next week.
Dave made the point that one of the few mistakes with the Rock promo is that it was a surprise (more or less). Presumably, if they had spent a week saying the Rock was returning to RAW, the rating would have been big. As it were, this week's rating, the week after his appearance, got the big rating, since the average viewer likely expected him to be on the show again this week.

Which begs the question should they have had Rock show up this and can they go two or three weeks without him while still keeping a strong rating? I will say I think part of the rating had to do with fans turning in to see Cena and Miz's retorts as well as the regular pop the show gets after a PPV.

Them bringing in The Rock has nothing to do with ratings.
Edit: One thing we should all be able to agree on is that regardless of the outcome, TNA's hyping of this surprise is definitely a failure. I mean, this thread is only a couple of replies away from being the most-replied-to TNA or Impact tagged thread on this board in the last year, garnering more replies than the thread announcing the signing of both RVD and Jeff Hardy and not trailing too far behind the thread regarding the hiring of Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff. If TNA was hoping to generate hype, they've clearly failed.
And does Sting have ANYTHING to offer? The answer is no. If anything his ass should've been fired two years ago when he acted like a baby and wouldn't see the Mafia heel turn.
First of all, I laughed my ass off at the parody of the Undertaker's commercials. Not quite as hard as I laughed at the people who insisted it wasn't The Undertaker or that there were two people in the second commercial, but I still got a good laugh at it.
Secondly, I'm fucking psyched. FINALLY.... Jeff Farmer has come BACK to American wrestling!

You spent two hours watching a segment that they explicitly explained when it would be aired?

A parody of the Undertaker video, complete with rain, except blue tinted and seemingly an arena rather than the shack. And then the date 3/3/11. Most likely starring the guy that many people deluded themselves into believing would show up on 2/21/11.
Kennedy haters be glad to hear this, looks like he may have injured himself again, was holding his wrist and there wasn't a need to sell an injury. I'm a Kennedy hater by the way. We wish all the best endeavors.......
