I picked this book up on Friday morning and was done by Friday night. It is a really good book and picks up right where his first book left off. It goes into further detail about the backstage at WWE and his interactions with Vince. Also, it goes into detail about Fozzy and the shitholes they played.

It also leaves off the possibility of a third book.

If you did not read his first book and do not care about his pre-WWE run, you can read this no problem. However, I would suggest reading the first as it flows very nicely into #2.

Also, he does devote a chapter to Benoit. It is well written and it was interesting for me to read about it from someone who was friends with him and how it affected him.

Again, big thumbs up.

Would you recap the story about the backstage reaction to his WWF debut?

I liked it but less than A Lion's Tale. The first book I think was better and more fun. Jericho's travels around the world with his run in the WCW trainwreck made for more interesting reading. He met wilder characters and had better stories in A Lion's Tale, and he had no concerns about offending anyone (ahem, Vince McMahon). Vince is the weirdest character he talks about in the new book, and he tells some great stories about what it's like working for him, but since he loves the guy and intends to work for him again one day, he can only go so far.

I should point out also that Jericho said on Twitter that while he was writing Undisputed he had a tragic laptop issue that caused most of the first draft to be lost. The book did feel to me like he had to race to make his publishing deadline as I was reading it.

SPOILERS!!! I'm going to discuss details of the book...

My main issues with it were that it felt a little slight. He goes into great detail about his first 3 years and all the difficulties he had in WWE adjusting to the WWE and his new boss, but after he loses the WWE Title to Triple H at WrestleMania X8, the rest of his run until 2005 is glossy.

For instance, I would have been very interested to hear more about his storyline with Trish, which I thought was the best angle he had in between 2002 and 2005 when he left WWE, but that got maybe a sentence.

There's also his run with Fozzy, which comprised every other chapter, and I hate to admit it but I really wasn't interested in what he was doing with Fozzy.

Leaving off the narrative for a third book also meant we have to wait years to hear about his recent and most wildly successful run, which is the other stuff I really wanted to know about.

Because Jericho is on such wonderful terms with WWE now, he doesn't have any axes to grind. He tells some great Vince stories and he really didn't like Chyna, but if it's dirt you want, there isn't any. If you want his thoughts on Triple H and his first WWE Title run that "never happened" - I'll save you $28: He was fine with it!

Undisputed is a good follow up to A Lion's Tale, but I don't think it was worth the full hardcover price. I'd wait for the paperback next year.

As the first significant wrestling book that covers the 2000s, this was a big deal. I was also a little disappointed that there isn't even more detail, especially from 2003-05. I get that Fozzy is an important part of his life, but any time there was a chapter about them or getting drunk and meeting some famous person I'd be like "goddamnit, write about your feud with Rhyno." There's a period of time where WCW went out of business and a bunch of its wrestlers showed up in the WWF locker room to do an invasion storyline, but the narrative of the book is just "Our match with Austin & HHH was great, I was disappointed at how I was booked against Austin after that. Yadda yadda yadda, I heard I was going to win the unified world title." That said, what he does actually spend time on is very informative and gives a lot of background about his pushes and non-pushes over time.

If you're in it for the HEAT and the DIRT, he really only hits the politically safe targets (Chyna, Goldberg, Scott Hall) but outside of Triple H it's not like there's anyone you'd expect him to have problems with. The long story short on Triple H is that he was a prick and two-faced when Jericho first came in, but Jericho ultimately blames himself being unintentionally aloof and not picking up the WWF style. I think the biggest asset of the book is the insight into Vince's bipolarity/intentional mind games with talent.

Vince was not happy the way Jericho played the chicken shit heel He felt this took away any credibity Jericho had a a serious ME threat. Also, he eventually called jericho out as the "drizzling shits" and a bad signing. I was shocked because I thought that his first time appearance in Chicago was awesome.

Also, Vince loves apes. Go figure.

I also had no idea how much Rock loved working with jericho and how close they were/are. And Flair. It surprised me to find out how close they were as opposed to my thoughts they were co workers only.

It was cool to read the progression of Jericho from super star signing, to almost out the door, to mid level worker, disapointing champion to respected vet and confidant of Vince.

I think more than anything else, these two books of Jericho show that hard work and a positive attitude can take you a long way.

As for the feuds, I never expected him to get into the depths of his personal feuds (if any). I did wish he spent a chapter discussing lost angles (like Trish) or ideas he wanted to do that got nixed.

I did like the Fozzy chapters and his personal stuff. It helped understand him as a person better.

And the 1/2 page interaction with Shawn and jericho as Doink was hysterical.

And Goldberg. I never heard Jericho's side and it sounded like the truth.

Again, I really enjoyed it and have no problem waiting another few years for part 3.

Watching the Doink clip brought me to clips of "Jericho's Huge WCW Push" which has something like 25 parts to it. Well worth checking out on youtube, because Jericho is what made me flip back and forth between WWF and WCW.

Also, Jericho agrees and thinks he sucked at first before he learned how to work WWF style instead of Japanese cruisers. Harsh. Says his biggest advocate was Russo, but Russo put him in stupid shit. Then when Russo left he had no backers, so he agreed to work with Chyna, which got him heat with HHH and DX. He also says he thinks Vince was hard on him in part to motivate him, "to tear him down and then build him up."

Indeed. "They never should have made you Doink." A distant but IMO highly important second goes to "Bulldog her, dumbass!"

I find his honesty about many of his disappointing matches/moments/periods of time to be refreshing. His first WWE run was anything but smooth and unlike a lot of these book-writing sourpusses, he's more than willing to admit his failings and shortcomings.

After struggling to care about the first one, I skipped all the nonsense Fozzy chapters because I couldn't care less about his crummy band or all the times he couldn't hold his liquor and acted like a weirdo. At least Flair's stories about getting all wasted usually involve beautiful women partying at the Marriott. Jericho's are all getting drunk and breaking glasses with a bunch of dudes. Far, far less awesome.

I was substitute teaching when I was reading that part, and laughed out loud reading that entry. It was a bit embarrassing, but that was the funniest exchange I've read in a long time. Just picturing it...wow. Highlight #2 for me was the dream he had where he wrestled the Loch Ness Monster.

I went to the Jericho book signing at Borders this past week and it was awesome. The line wrapped all the way around the store and it took me almost 2 hours to get to him. When he first came out, my friend and I ran to the front of the line to look at him. I was on my tip toes, jumping up and down for no reason, as if a couple inches of extra elevation would somehow make my eyesight better. When I caught myself and stopped, I saw a couple people laughing at me and some old black guy was looking right at me, shaking his head slowly in disbelief.

We went back in line and waited the two hours. There was a kid in front of us who had brought his mom and sister and they were PISSED. They kept telling him, "You're the one who wants to see him" and "I don't even know who he is". By the time we got to the front of the line, the mom and sister hated Chris Jericho.

As I got closer, I started going over the things I wanted to say to him. I wanted to ask him about the arm wrestling trick that he mentions in his first book, so that he would know I was cool and a real fan. I reminded myself not to ask him when he is coming back and to play it cool, because I didn't want him to think I was a dumb mark. Most importantly, I wanted to show him the wrestling move I could do with my friend (the blocked hip toss into a backflip off the opponent's head that X-Pac used to do in every match).

When it was my turn, I was so nervous. I felt like I had just hit puberty and I was approaching the hottest girl in school. I didn't know where to put my hands, what to say, don't sit too close to him, don't sit too far from him, don't be weird and touch him for no reason, remember to play it cool. Everything I had gone over in my head instantly went out the window.

"CHRIS JERICHO YOU'RE MY FAVORITE WRESTLER," I blurted out while handing him the book.

He seemed genuinely happy. "Why thank you, that means-"

"YOU REALLY ARE!" I smoothly cut him off while talking a little too loud.

He signed my books (I bought two Undisputed books and I had brought my copy of A Lion's Tale for him to sign). He asked, "Why are you getting two copies?"

I told him the truth. "In case anything happens to one of them like my girlfriend gets mad and throws it away or something."

He nodded his head, completely understanding. "Yeah, it's a good idea to have one for safekeeping."

I sensed it was time to go, so I stood up to shake his hand. They made me sit back down to take the picture with him, and he muttered under his breath to me, "I'll actually look up for this one."

This time, I got back up. I shook his hand and then out of nowhere asked, "When are you coming back?"

He grinned, leaned in close, and said very quietly, "Well, let's just say the Rock might have problems with getting interrupted again. Maybe when he's hosting that big show they have coming up..."

My friend was next. After his signing, he asked Y2J, "Can me and my buddy show you something?"

Jericho hesitated. "Uh... What is it?"

My friend ran to the open area in front of Jericho, and I ran towards him, ready to impress my hero with our best wrestling move. Right before I got to him, the Borders lady in charge of the signing screamed, "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" I looked in her eyes and she was completely horrified, life-flashing-before-your-eyes scared. I froze instinctively and all the security guards started to converge on us. I was scared someone would grab me in the middle of my move, and I would be dropped on my head, so I improvised quickly and { Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } He shook his head in disbelief as we ran out of the store, laughing manically.

...

The next day, I went out for lunch with my girlfriend. She asked me, "Why are you smiling so much? Is the food really good or something? You've been glowing the whole time!"

"Uh... yeah the food's just really tasty." I kept smiling. There was no way I was going to tell her that I was still thinking about Chris Jericho.

I feel that deletion would be the rest of the community's loss. This might be the best thing I've read on the Internet all year.

Also, perhaps it's because I'm in dialup mode but it seems odd that a -hide- tag would cause the hidden text to be much more visible than it was to begin with.

This comment says a lot about YOU!

(I will concede that it is well CRAFTED.)

No, it be would like that way either way - dialup mode wouldn't change anything there. As to WHY....well, we've always used red italics to denote hidden text. I think we WANTED it to stand out just to remind people it was hidden, and nobody was using red italics in their regular text so we picked it. I could go back and look if I was really bored. OK, I'm not that bored but it was an easy search to find the original announcement (The W). And now I've totally derailed this thread, not that it wasn't already.

Ignoring the obvious attention-grabber of the story, I'm still laughing my ass off at following "I didn't want him to think I was a dumb mark" with "I wanted to show him the wrestling move I could do with my friend."
