He has been wrestling in OVW for a while and was here in Cal in UPW before that. He was trained by Tom Howard. He was on at least one show, ( I think it was on Discovery) maybe more, that were behind the scenes type things. He is big and has good fundemantals.

The show was called Bodyslam!(I think)and was on last friday night.I remember the show because they show a Christopher Daniels vs. Mike Modest match from WCW Nitro/Thunder,in which Daniels screws up a springboard move and about kills himself. He lands right on his neck, terrible to watch.

The Modest-Daniels match is a favourite of mine, just for the recap (Nitro 23.1.01) in which CRZ completely loses it when Steiner 'breaks their legs'.

Either this is a recurring mistake, or I'm just confused.

Ok, the guy on the TLC BodySlam show is this guy, Big Jon Heidenreich.

And HERE is Prototype, aka Jon Cena.

It's not the same guy.

I think.

Yeah, they both are from UPW. If Prototype was on, I missed it. Anybody else clear this up?

Yeah, both of them were featured on thatprogram. I think that they covered Cena first, then Heidenreich. I seemed to remember that Proto cut as good a promo as you can when you're trying to get your character over as being akin to a 22nd century cyborg or somesuch... made me think of the Sherminator from the "American Pie" movies, but Cena did it well.
And I actually caught an episode of "Manhunt" once. You may be thinking, "EB, what're you doing home on a Friday night watching UPN?" and I would be all like, "Don't go there!"
Anyway, I saw him establish himself as the "Nitro" character of this group of jungle gladiators, and was pretty effective in doing so.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch that "Hughleys" marathon I've been meaning to catch up on...

Actually, is it just me, or does Prototype sorta look like Sting without the makeup?

And from the pictures I've seen of CRZ, well, he looks like the kinda guy that'd try to buy a cat and get denied (the only reason I say this is because somebody who did look like CRZ tried to buy a cat from my friend Kristen, but she wouldn't give the cat to the person because we COULDN'T DETERMINE IF IT WERE MALE OR FEMALE). Well, at least I can tell that CRZ is male.

I hear all about this guy, so I was excited to see him in a dark match before a Philadelphia Smackdown taping about a year ago. Well, he wrestled Crowbar, and he SUCKED! Slow and lumbering were the two words used most about him in my company, but I guess I just caught him on an off night.

BTW, John Cena was also the guy who went after a fan during an APW show in California, chronicled on Beyond The Mat, because he thought the fan spit on him.

I always thought the WWF's Prototype was the same Prototype that was in ECW.

In OVW he was the certainly the best on the mic, one of the best in the ring, and one of the favourites of the local media when it came to having OVW wrestlers on their morning shows (he's very personable and charismatic).

I don't think he has any flashy moves that are going to make you sit up and go "wow," like Brock can with the shooting star press, but he's more in the '99 Kurt Angle mold in that he's going to be able to look good in the ring as he learns more and more moves and busts out an "Anglesault" or something down the road.

**Spoiler warning**

That they've supposedly put him in a match with Angle for SD! seems perfect to me, but I'm admittedly not an expert or anything.

Um... When that was filmed, Cena hadn't even started training yet. Cena also never worked APW. Plus, as someone who's worked repeatedly with Cena (I was a Production head for UPW in 2000-2001), I can tell you that that guy wasn't even REMOTELY like John, he's one of the most humble nice guys I've ever met in the business.

He was trained by Tom Howard at Ultimate University beginning in 1999. He was on an EARLIER TLC/Discovery Channel special. That's why the confusion. When the recent one was filmed (last spring), he'd already gone to OVW.

Yeah, he was on a TLC show, but not with anyone else mentioned in this thread. I believe it culminated with UPW's first online show, but feel free to correct me. ;)

Consider yourself corrected. Sonicfish had been recording shows before that for online use. It culminated with their first "out of region" show at Cane's in San Diego, which didn't draw well.

Thank you muchly for clearing all of that stuff up, Madman.

Were you still with UPW when the TLC special was produced... and if so, did you work with them, and is there anything you could let us in on? Does there seem to be someone high up in the network with a big interest in wrestling?

I think he looks like what would happen if Austin and RVD had a kid.

I hope that WWE lets him use the 'Prototype' name in the big leagues. It's much more creative than plain ol' John Cena.

I was born in a manger, like that other guy. You know, he wore a hat?
