I watched TNA from the beginning but couldn't get to the computer until 9:40ish so it kinda truncates things. Maybe that is good.

WHAT WORKED-

- The opening endless tease of THEM was horrendous, but the Hardy's were rocking the OMEGA shirts and that ruled. I also dig that crazy ass Jeff Hardy is starting to take make-up tips from the late great Klaus Nomi. I'll go ahead and stick the Shannon Moore Ink Inc win here just to keep the OMEGA tip rolling along. I didn't recognize the two guys who went by their last names. I assume they are the Deuce and Domino of the new decade. To-ooootal Eclipse- it wa a Tooooooo-oootal Eclipse! A total Eclipse of the su-u-u-u-u-u-u-un!

- Fuck yeah! Ladies! Taped fists! I've been to Kimarnock and the Northern Neck of Virginia enough to know Mickey James would have the advantage. Northern Neck is more Redneck than a pregnant 14 year old in a Brad Paisley t-shirt. Inexplicably, they do a lot of wrestling when you have yer fists all wrapped up. HEY LADIES! TAPED FISTS! YOU GOTTA HAVE BLOOD! Selling a hurt taped fist is soooo a lesser version of storied stipulation. Eh, knockout finish is perfectly fine. Doesn't make me forget DiBiase vs Sweetan but I doubt anything that will ever be on TNA will do that.

- The Life With Jeff Jarrett segments WERE FUCKING SOLID GOLD. I'm glad I'm not the only dad completely ruining his children.

- Will Jeff Hardy die big and ugly enough to make me give a shit about a Mr Anderson match? Jeff sells the assbeating early and the outof the ring into the ring transition was simple and effect to get to the guy with a fun offense on offense. Anderson crappily punches to COMEBACK but is mercifully cut off by Hardy to keep it above the What Worked Line. Hardy cuts him off a quick nearfall and THIS WILL WORK if HArdy can keep Anderson from ruining it by going on offense- which is a price you pay when Anderson does attempts at selling. Anderson doesn't lean into the shots into the steps like YOU KNOW Hardy would. The LaParka Flying Body Attack cuts off the cameback and they edit the hell out of Anderson's hilarious punches- though, to be fair, they do look they try to lay them in at the end of the exchange. Hardy leans into the Enzuguiri like a fucking KING and this is still working. Poopy Reverse Falcon Arrow and the match is teetering. THEM IS THEY! THEY IS THEY! THEM IS THEM! BEER MONEY is THEM! AL STYLES IS THEY! Fellow Carolinian AJ Styles turns on Hardy with a Styles Clash and Anderson retains! Ooo, I'm crazy because I still dig the Hardys and I look forward to Hardys versus Beer Money. Yeah, this worked.

- AJ Styles saying "THEM is US!" was truly a great moment in wrestling history.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK-

- Eric Bischoff talks at length and he keeps acting all scared. Way to undecut whatever you have left of your stable and way to FORESHADOW the THEM SWERVE~! Play it straight, hoss. GOOD wrestling is about subtle subterfuge. The unsubtle subterfuge of the following vignettes re-enforced the poopiness.

- The X-MAN 3WAY~! wasn't really bad at all. Hell, that Doug Williams Rolling Suplex was the best thing I've seen all week that wasn't Messias tope-ing LA Park and coming up with a blood smeared arm. But I put last week's TNA 3 way and a 3 way from Puerto Rico in the WORKED column and it would have to match El Dandy vs El Santo vs Negro Casas RIBBON OF BLOOD in greatness to make the worked column. So- sorry, little match. The goofy 3-way things were inventive but the Young Buck didn't really need his brother to distract the ref or do people in TNA get DQed for kicking folks in the balls? Seemed odd.

- Maaaaaan, the astoundingly listless and shitty Devon/ Bubba brawl almost made the What Worked list because SOMEHOW in THIS UNIVERSE that YOU and I share and have shared these low so many years, THINGS have fallen into place through fate and design and alcohol and stupidity so that a CROWD of WRESTLING FANS actually chant, "WE WANT DE-VON!" It was a bizarre moment. HOW? What series of incidents could cause this to happen. It gives me hope that somehow- in Columbia- a series of events will take place where a room of Columbian super models will somehow get to a situation and moment where they will somehow enthusiastically chant, "FUCK US, DEAN RASMUSSEN!" Fuck, ANYTHING is possible now. It's quite liberating. Thank you, TNA. Miracles.

THERE YOU HAVE IT.

I wasn't digging the Jarrett Family Saga until the littlest dude cracked a laugh at Daddy Jeff in the first segment, chucked the Jarrett figure in the second segment, and then the third one I was just in for. That little dude saved it and then everyone else started coming along for the ride. I fell for it. I won't lie.

AJ Styles promo got me all rowdy after what had been a show mostly filled with things I don't like (X division three-ways, Shannon Moore, lack of more gratuitous Mickie James camera angles). I'm also liking Jeff Hardy quietly starting to embrace his redneck and forget all the modern hippy/raver jive a little.

On the other hand, Mr. Anderson is the *worst*.

The final segment was the best thing TNA has done since Hogan arrived. But since the Fortune turn was only done by default, I have no faith they'll follow through with anything good.

The Jarrett segments sucked. I'm sorry, but the guy never has been, and never will be, main event material. He definately shouldn't be getting 5+ segments every show.

Tired of segments with Bischoff (or any authority figure) backstage. In fact, I'm tired of backstage segments period. You want to do an interview? Put JB out there in the ring, with a mic, Mean Gene style.

TNA pays lip service to Reemphasizing the X division and then throws three guys in the ring already after commercials and gives them four minutes.Douglas Williams went from getting pushed for a few months to irrelevant.
You know throwing out Ink Inc Vs Gunner and Murphy as your first match after all the hype for the show is dopey. That’s an Xplosion Match and Gunner and Murphy have no credibility. It’s been a long time since Ink Inc has been on Impact.
The less said The better about Jarrett’s segments.I mean after all these years he’s still a focal point and that’s not a good thing.
The Sarita-Mickie Match was fine but had a stupid stipulation. I hope they feud down the line.
The Joe-Pope feud is dopey. Joe used to mean so much more years ago and The Pope has been fubar’d the past few months. Pope was one of the hottest acts a year or so ago. He was looking like a future world champ. Joe was the fastest rising star back in '05-06 and then Russo returned and jobbed Joe out and then had him running around with a knife.
The highlight of the show was A,J’s promo. It was one of his strongest promos ever. I wasn’t crazy about Bischoff’s show ending promo, it was more of a burial. He is on way , way too much. I hope TNA will really get behind Fortune as faces.
Hardy-Anderson was okay. Hardy having Anderson beat with the ref down doesn’t make Anderson look all that strong. I understand they're going have a rematch but still.
Immortal is now really weak and TNA has a ton of top faces and are ridiculously thin on the heel side of things. They really have little set up for a PPV coming up in a week and a half and they wonder why they draw terrible ppv buyrates.

It either speaks volumes about TNA's history of booking or it speaks for my cynicism (probably both), but all I could think about during that final segment was, "So when does Steiner turn on them?"

Apparently the plan was always to turn Fortune, they just had to speed up the process. So maybe there's a plan in place for this.

I have to admit, I LOVED the reveal on They. It wasn't just the best option available to them, it was actually much better than anything I'd actually thought of ahead of time. It was a great promo from AJ, who's not really known for his serious promos, and I can't believe this, but all the booking logic made PERFECT SENSE. The only things I don't like about it are that I'm not sure what they do with Flair now. I know he can work face, but the fact that he wasn't out there last night makes me wonder what the plan for him is. I also don't like the fact that completely removing Fortune from Immortal absolutely decimates Immortal's list of talented wrestlers. I mean, at this point it's pretty much just the Hardys, and honestly both of those guys are well, well past their prime. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but I'm not looking forward to a feud that has to have one end held up almost entirely by Abyss, Gunner and Murphy, and Rob Terry.

Turning Fortune was the right call, because these are the guys the fans want to cheer for. I also think Eric to come out and bury them was a bad idea. If you do a shocking face swerve then let it end the show and build drama to what will Immortal do next week instead of showing us right away what the response is. One of TNA's problems is they don't know how to create suspense which has been the hallmark of Russo booking. Russo's booking is like a Michael Bay film with too many fast edits and not enough time to actually build towards something, because there is something else exploding around you. The sad part is, if they would just do the little things like ending the show with the Fortune turn, they would be in better spots.

Even though everyone is saying turning Fortune was Plan B, the reality is we don't know what their real plans are. We have hints and ideas. For all we know they could have brought MEM just to have them as heels and turn Fortune in a month from now or they just hired Scott to swerve the IWC and fans into thinking MEM was coming. Who knows, all I know is they are in a better place with a storyline featuring the original TNA faces against wormy Bischoff and Hogan.

The turn makes no sense and it makes the Immortal storyline pretty much an abortion so far, but at least they've got AJ as a strong face out of this. What a shitty bait-and-switch show, though. The "They" reveal was obviously influenced by outside factors, but what's their excuse for the Hogan no-show?

lotjx, I'm sure every single online news source just pulled the stories about the MEM out of their asses. Come on. There's no way the Fortune turn isn't a rushjob to cover up the botch. If this WAS their plan all along it makes them look even worse, as now the big bad crappy heel stable is reduced to six active wrestlers, most of whom suck, against pretty much the totality of TNA (Fortune, Anderson, Angle, RVD, Crimson, Doug Williams, Matt Morgan).

The best thing they can do at this point is have Fortune destroy Immortal as quickly as possible to make the point that "the Hogan regime is over". I think it is kind of fitting that Immortal now consists of a bunch of the talentless muscleheads that Hogan loves...and the Hardy's.

Dissolve Immortal, let the Hardy's fued with Beer Money over it and the title of BESTEST TAG TEAM EVA!

On a side note, the entire 3D angle screams "We have no idea what to do with these guys." You've got Joe and Pope who should be doing much bigger things, and 3D who should never have been resigned.

Can you tell me how you felt when you saw Booker T and Kevin Nash at the Royal Rumble and realized your original plans for "THEY" were screwed?
Dixie: Booker was not available for any MEM angle. Kevin Nash was under contract with TNA and was just recently released for reasons I will not disclose. From the beginning, if we did a MEM angle it would not have been with the original group and it would have been a short-term story to get to something else. To see “THEY” tune in TONIGHT on SPIKE. I’m pretty sure the fans will be happy. I know I am.

I think anyone who paid attention to what did has been doing for the last few months ie making AJ their wiping boy for everything would realize, they were going to turn Fortune. The moment EV2.0 was gone, there was bitching about too many heels, now there are too many faces. Most of the people you mention won't be in this storyline like Doug Williams and Morgan while Crimson is not a threat to anyone.
And who is to say these are the only heels out there to join the storyline? Fortune has been set-up to turn on Immortal since the alliance started. It made no sense to have a group that strong from the beginning and not break it up down the road. Its been a slow burn and yes, they could have done a better job leading to it maybe plant some more seeds. Yet, they have treated AJ like dirt since December, so how more weeks or months did they really need?

If in fact the MEM was the original idea and it fell apart, they definitely made lemonade. This is actually a much better option, as you now have four TNA home grown talents in the spotlight, instead of standing around behind Bischoff, Hogan, Jarrett, and Flair. They fell ass backwards into a better idea, as we have four of the better workers in the company in the main story, instead several guys who are over the hill. Let WWE push those same over the hill guys.

I wouldn’t get to worked up over Bischoff “burying” Fortune, what was he supposed to do? He is a heel, and he told them they were ungrateful and nothing before he and Hogan arrived. Now they can prove him wrong. I know TNA rarely deserves the benefit of the doubt, but this seems like wrestling 101. Think Batista vs. HHH.

Even you are better than this.

EDIT: This whole thing reminds me of Vince Russo calling Hogan "bald" and putting Booker over in 2000. It was good to see and everyone got real excited because OMG they've finally got a clue about what to do and so on, but it was still Vince Russo booking WCW. They've lucked into something that could be good. They've done that repeatedly for their nine-year existence, and never managed to turn that potential into long-term success.

I fell asleep during the second hour - oops, probably not what TNA was going for. Yet again, I felt this was a case of TNA hyping up what is supposed to be a "big" show and again it just falls flat.

And, ugh, enough with the STUPID Angle/Jarrett stuff. I don't care about Karen Angle and I don't care about the family. Jarrett needs to be off my television.

Couple of rhetorical questions:

If Fortune was really "they", then why did choke out AJ Styles *last week* only to be buddy/buddy this week?

How sad is it to see Douglas Williams lose the TV title to someone who is taking time off and be relegated to losing to Max Buck?

How do I get a contact with TNA, like Hogan has, where I can make a lot of money to no-show events where I'd only have to work one weekend every month?

Isn't Hogan out due to the back surgeries?

And as far as Styles being choked out. This happens in wrestling all the time. You take the beating until you suddenly reveal you were in cohoots all along.

And while I don't believe TNA never wanted the MEM, I'm sure they had some warning that they couldn't get Booker/Nash/Sting.
Probably none of them returned phone calls and/or had the courtesy to say No to contract offers.
So they probably knew at least one-two weeks ago (but after the taping where Steiner showed up) that it wouldn't work out.

No matter what, the ball is now in TNA's court.
Can they book Fourtune strong and will they be allowed to shine? And most important, will they make it a strong storyline and not have random switches all the time?

If this means AJ Styles becomes the top face in the promotion, I'm on board. Anderson doesn't have the charisma to play the shiny-happy face. Styles does, and he works like a horse in the ring.

Matt looked better this week, possibly because he tied back the dreads. He even looked a little more toned, which seems ... odd.

Daddy Jack Jarrett should be JJ's new ring name.

Anderson should turn heel to balance things out. It would be easy enough. He just has to say that he never asked Fortune to bail him out and that he's still the champ.

I think there are so many factions because they have no clue what to do with most of those guys. Vince Russo always loved his factions.

One thing I'll give Russo credit for though is that least he's always put an effort to use everyone. I'd take that over Bischoff's tendancy to pay guys to sit at home.
