Can't see Manny playing defense on turf in a dome and I don't know if Damon could at this point either. If they signed 1 as the DH it would make sense. Both is puzzling, especially for a team that has focused on defense during the past few seasons.

Manny will surely be the DH. Damon was pretty great in '08-09 but fell off last year. I think these moves give The Rays their best line up in their history.

Maybe they'll platoon as DH, with just occasional appearances in the field to spell one of the regulars.
Not to say that this would be optimal use; just saying that it is an option to be considered (and with Manny only getting $2 million guaranteed, a pretty inexpensive option at that).

Manny, with all his problems last year, still put up really good numbers. If he repeats those numbers (or even loses 50-60 OPS points), it's still a huge bargain for Tampa Bay.
So, Damon, Manny and about a million draft picks for the Rays this winter. Not bad. They'll still be over .500, though I'm not sure they'll make the playoffs again.
