Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... Nets pull out of race for Carmelo (sports.espn.go.com)
And from the sound of things, it ain't no negotiating ploy.
Instantly, Denver's gone from getting a potential motherload to most likely (AT BEST) getting scraps from a team that could rent out Carmelo for the rest of the season in pursuit of a title. The Knicks clearly have no reason now to give up the farm when 'Melo's made it clear that New York (and not Brooklyn) is his next long-term destination, and there's no other team out there able or willing to overpay for Carmelo long term.
Dare it might actually be best for Denver to stand pat and take one last shot before everything goes to hell in a handbasket this summer?
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

They're still in the picture for Melo, they just turned the tables on Denver and are now dealing on their terms.
Who is "they?" If you mean the Knicks, then I'm confused, because I'm not sure what they did to turn the tables, seeing as how this was all the doing of the Nets. And if you mean the Nets, I'm even more confused because I really don't think this is a ploy at all and they truly are out of the running.
I'm so sick of Melo. I hope Kroenke sends him to Cleveland, just to show one of these spoiled athletes that they don't get to hold an entire team hostage, just because they want to play in a big city.
Denver could be a title contender. They showed it with the way they've beaten the Lakers and the Heat. Instead, Anthony's single-handedly sinking them with this crap.
