I had excellent seats last night at the Smackdown taping in Tulsa. We were about five rows back from the ring. You would think that would equal a GREAT time, but this was the worst TV taping I've ever attended. The crowd was just absolutely DEAD all night. I can't wait to watch Friday and see how much cheering/booing they have to pipe in to compensate. It was weird, too, because they did all the usual "in Oklahoma" stuff to pop the crowd, including having Jack Swagger talk about the Texas Longhorns and bringing out Good Ol' JR. Still, everyone sat on their hands with two exceptions: when Mysterio and Edge came out.

First off, Barrett, Jackson, Slater and Gabriel came out and Barrett announced the group will be called The Corre (?). Yes, that spelling is right - it's on their new Titantron vid.
Theodore Long came out and told these playahs that they better watch how they act on Smackdown. After he left, Del Rio came out for a match with R-Truth.

Alberto Del Rio beat R-Truth via submission. They kept cutting into the match to show that backstage, someone had beaten Long unconscious. They loaded him on a stretcher and took him to a local hospital.

Beth Phoenix beat Layla with the Glam Slam.

Rey mysterio beat Cody Rhodes after a 619 to Rhodes' precious nose.

The next match was utterly bizarre and easily one of the stupidest things I've seen in awhile. Jack Swagger challenged Kofi Kingston to an "amateur wrestling exhibition challenge" in which you win by pinfall or points within 3 minutes. Swagger beat him, but the live crowd was given no information on what the rules were, so everyone was just confused and wondering WTF was going on. Very frustrating.

Drew McIntyre beat Trent Barretta. Drew tried to shake Barretta's hand after the match but Barretta slapped his face. Drew went into a rage but Kelly Kelly came out and got between the two and stopped the imminent beatdown. The crowd was really surprisingly into Drew and everyone was disappointed in him for letting Kelly Kelly stop him. Weird atmosphere.

Miz came out and promoed on Orton before being interrupted by Edge. Edge ran him off by threatening the spear.

Justin Gabriel beat Edge in a non-title match with Ziggler as guest commentator. Jackson interfered and clotheslined Edge out of his shoes, allowing Gabriel to do the 450 splash. The Corrrrrrre then beat down Edge, then Ziggler came into the ring, put his foot on Edge and posed.

After the taping, Mysterio and Kofi ran in and chased Ziggler off. A dark match ensued in which the two beat Del Rio and Kane after Rey did the 619 to both of them at the same time. Jim Ross was the special guest ref and got the big Oklahoma pop.

Like I said before, this show was really dead. I went to Raw at the same arena last year and it was NUTS. I mean absolutely pandemonium. I think it's just a symptom of there not being enough starpower on Smackdown.

Also, as many others have noted, Maryse is absolutely incredibly beautiful in person.

Interesting. I know someone who also went to those tapings (Chris Masters kissed her during his ring entrance on NXT) and if I listened to her, those Smackdown tapings were as exciting as attending WrestleManias III, X, 14, and 24 combined. Now I don't know who to believe. (You. I believe you.)

One thing I do know, the spelling of "The Corre" is rretarded. "The Core" has a nice ring to it with an interesting connotation. What the hell is a "Corre"? Could they not get the legal rights to "The Core" because of that Hillary Swank movie about drilling to the center of the Earth?

<-- The King of Oklahoma used similar wrestling challenges before, including one within the last few months.

It may play well on TV, but for the live crowd of average redneck Joe's, it was incomprehensible.

Actually, I forgot to include NXT/Superstars spoilers...but I'll tell you this: Ricardo Rodriguez beating that rat guy was the highlight of the night.

I am sure they could come up with lamer names then Corre, but not by much. Well, at least we will won't hear the Nexus theme eight times during the Rumble. I am wondering with Long being gone and this champion vs. champion match is leading to the end of the brand split prior to Mania. Vickie in charge again either means Dolph is getting the title or large run towards it for Mania. An undisputed championship match at Mania would certainly make-up or be considered a dream match which at this point, we don't have.

I did a search for "Corre" to see what real world connotations it could have other than lame spelling.

Corre: http://www.corre.info/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corre_%28disambiguation%29

I guess Wade's new group is a commune in France offering retirement funds.
