He's got some stiff competition (Mike Greenberg! "Psycho" Mike Catherwood! "Fitz"!), but he is promising to reveal "many secrets about Kelly Ripa [from when they] used to live in the same building on the Upper West Side"; ooooooh ...
"All RAW is these days is a cheap version of Saturday Night Live, so if you wanna tune in to watch the amazing star power of Al Sharpton and Nancy O'Dell, go ahead! Who's gonna host next week, Big Bird? Wow, that's must-see TV!" - John Morrison (10/16/09 Smackdown!)
The really sad thing is, Pettengill was actually ahead of his time. Had he come along in 2000, he could have easily played the Michael Cole role and HE could be the one reading Raw GM e-mails every week.
He'd be the Two-time Slammy Award Winning Todd Pettengill!

The difference is that Cole is trying to be annoying on purpose. Pettengill had that whole "wacky morning DJ" thing going on.

What was Cole's excuse during the first half of the last decade, when he was consistently the worst announcer in the biz? He's always been annoying. Really, the only difference between Cole in 2000 and Cole in 2010 is that now they've simply given him a green light to be an annoying prick and hide behind the "He's doing it on PURPOSE" excuse.
I absolutely think Pettengill could have thrived in the last five years. Turning the "Care" switch off and just letting loose (as opposed to trying to be a shill man) works wonders on certain stiffs. Look what it did for Jonathan Coachman.

His promos are good, he's over, and I liked every single match he had with Eddie Guerrero. Whether they were carry-jobs or not (and they certainly were), they knew better than to do anything but brawling.
