Jacob Novak got cut and he sucked so bad that WWE switched his pro, Ziggler, for Masters mid-show just so they could keep Dolph on the show but get rid of him.

But that ain't the news. The big news is that next week there will be a double date with practically my four favorite people in wrestling: Daniel Bryan, Derrick Bateman, and the Bella Twins. If you have left behind the wonders of NXT, this I say to you: 1) you were correct to do so, and 2) this may be a reason to check back.

At what point did it sink in to Masters and Novak what was going on? You have to think that Masters is on the chopping block, right?

Bateman is really pretty funny, but his act is really odd for pro wrestling, in that its - really, genuinely funny. You know you're hitting something when you're a no-name and the live audience is actually laughing at your backstage shit. Good for him.

Felt legit bad for Novak, he was picked on all night and then sent home. What may be his final moment on national tv is overshadowed by the reigning IC champion calling him a loser and hamming it up on the ramp.

The rat man fucking sucks.

I actually dig Conor O'Brien. Push him as a sympathetic face where Divas laugh at him when he tries to introduce himself, Cole constantly berates his appearance, and Superstars constantly leave cheese and mousetraps in his locker. Then in the ring after he's had enough he goes into the old Ken Shamrock "zone" and starts destroying people and yelling. They could call it "Rat Rage".

It would be almost as awesome as Derrick Bateman's sweet bridge. I love that guy by the way. He seems to be the most relateable rookie the show has ever had, as in he acts like a teenage wwe fan on who bulked up on his summer break and joined his favorite company soon after.

I like Conor O'Brien too; the word I keep coming back to is INTRIGUING: his gimmick is that he is a living rat, he tries to eat cheese, his freestyle mic work has consisted entirely of jokes from the '70s, and his two catchphrases are saying "heyyyyyy" in the weirdest way possible and an impression of a 1950s gangster. Lord, the intrigue.

Bateman is really pretty funny, but his act is really odd for pro wrestling, in that its - really, genuinely funny.

Yup, exactly. It's unfortunate just how much less funny Bateman or Curtis (who are showing some real AJ-Kaitlyn superpals potential) would be in the chortle factories that are Raw and Smackdown skits.

OTOH, I pegged B-Sax in week 1 as the easy winner and he has been quite disappointing. Great delivery but has said nothing worthwhile all season.

I haven't watched any of this season (If it doesn't happen on television ...), so "Live from Tucson" is basically the first I've seen any of this bunch. Indeed I do have the NXT roster up, so I can get the names right.

Right off the bat, Bateman & Curtis were the only rookies bopping along with the music during the opening, & generally behaving like they were enjoying being there.

Did we know before now that the winner of this season & his pro will challenge for the tag team titles?

Up next, we have a battle royal among the pros -- winner has the option of swapping out his rookie.

For some reason, ADR's announcer Ricardo Rodriguez wants to take ADR's place in the battle royale. (If there was any reasonable cause for this, I missed it.) So he trots out there in his tux & street shoes.

We start with Daniel Bryan getting him up in an airplane spin ... for minutes! Not just 4-5 rotations, but minutes worth! That actually was fun. Most impressive is that when Bryan finally dropped RR, Bryan didn't even come up dizzy. R-Truth dumped RR over the top, & so much for that concept.

The rest of the battle royal was mostly pretty quick & straightforward. Ziggler wins sneakily, disses his rookie Novak, & takes Masters' rookie Saxton. To prove a point, Saxton & Novak will have a match.

I've never been a fan of Chris Masters. But I have to say, I really liked him tonight. He was down at ringside talking to the crowd, & generally being pretty cute trying to get some crowd support for his new guy. Facedom & working in a looser setting seems good for him.

The match was interesting. Although Saxton looks like he's probably more skilled, Novak was the one working really hard & making the big effort. And he wasn't that bad a worker. He's certainly not prime time, but I wasn't displeased with what I saw.

Short, cute backstage spot with Curtis & R-Truth. Something about them being a 2-man wolf pack (hmm) roaming the deserts of Arizona. "What are you talking about?" "I don't know."

Had the backstage spot with Bateman offering to double date with Bryan & the Bellas. Bateman was as good as Bryan was bad in that segment.

Next we had the one-on-one promo-off. Novak is incredibly bad on the mic. Don't know if there's hope for that aspect of him or not. Saxton was OK, but no great shakes. Clay was loud & monotonous. Finalists were Curtis, Bateman & O'Brian. Curtis & Bateman are both comfortable & clever. O'Brian was sophmoric insults, which I didn't find amusing. O'Brian's win over Bateman was more of a "Yea-boo" problem that an actual win.

Who named this guy Con(n)or O'Brian ?? Are we supposed to think he's irish or scottish, or any place north of New Jersey? He acts like a Jersey Shore wannabe. Giving him a confusing name isn't gonna help matters any.

Match between Brodus Clay & Johnny Curtis. Damn, DiBiase is generic. I kept forgetting who he is -- if it weren't for Maryse as his accessory. Match wasn't awful, for a big guy squash. Bad post-match promo.

Between the audio in the arena, & "no habla espanol", I have no clue what Rodriguez was saying on his phone call backstage. Best I got was that he was ashamed & embarrassed (or pregnant) about losing? Anybody?

They line the boys up along the ring for elimination. While still on commercial, Striker is chatting up the audience, as is Bateman. Curtis was having some slight problem after his squashage, but he seemed to get it together when he needed to. The rest of them were just standing there. Not good. If you're out there, you're on. You may need to "turn down the volume",
to not pull focus from something else going on. But there's really not much excuse to "just stand there". Bark at an audience member. Make faces at a kid. Do something.

Overall, not at all dreadful, as I'd feared. Would have liked to have seen Bateman work, so I may have to go look online. And that's the kind of effect they're lookng for, isn't it?

I think we're looking at Bateman & Bryan with the Bellas for TT champions. (Or, replace out the Bellas with Bateman's personality. That'd work too.)

I think the tag title info was just the latest in the tradition of making up the rules of NXT as you go along.

I feel bad for Masters for losing his rookie, and it's a shame they made the elimination so obvious early on with the switch, but NXT is still my favourite wrestling show. I'm enjoying Ziggler's overexcited putdowns when he has a mic on the ramp.

Except for when they've been down to the final few contestants, have they revealed the elimination in this way before? Without putting up a proper ranking board?

Before the promo-off, they showed the elimination points standings, which gave a pretty clear hint about who was probably going. And that boy is baaaaad on the mic. My theory is that they want Saxton to be doing better than he is, so wanted to move him to a better talker. And being in Vicki's stable can't hurt him any.

YEEEEESSSS.

I would like to see a NXT episode where Ziggler is behind the announcers table during the whole show to see how he does.

His constant taunting at Bateman during the obstacle course had me howling.

Sing this special song. It's just for you.
Dolph's also the only pro to my knowledge shouting audible, helpful advice while on the apron.

"Hook both legs like I would!" is a tad more constructive than "Get after him Brodus!"
