Hey; remember Bull Nakano? Rhonda "Bertha Faye" Singh? Both talented wrestlers who were burried because the bookers had no idea what to do with them. Rhonda in particular was damn impressive for her size but no; they stuck her in that stupid trailer park trash gimmick.

I'd love to be wrong; but I doubt I will be. If they book her as an unstoppable monster heel who's a threat to all the divas (both face and heel) then I'll be impressed.

While I have a lot of concern about WWE booking Kong well, I don't think using examples from the early to mid 90's is all that relevant. Especially since in that time they have shown an ability to book solid women's feuds, and to promote non-traditional looking women. Don't forget, these same people once convinced people they wanted to both read Joanie Lauer's thoughts and see her naked.

My concern comes from the fact that the same people who can't seem to get slam-dunk angles like Cena vs. Nexus right are the same people who will be in charge of booking the women's division. If Kong is booked well she will be the exception overall in the current WWE regardless of gender.

As a fan I have these same concerns, but...

She is a "professional" wrestler. She likely signed with WWE because that was the best thing for her financially. I hope she makes a lot of money and that she saves/invests wisely. I often think that we as fans put too much stock in what we see on TV and don't think about the fact that a performer is likely better off making twice what they'd make working for "X" by working for WWE, even if their push isn't logical.

Early Wrestlemania Prediction Thread Entry:

Love Her Or Leave Her Match Mark Henry vs. Santino Marella - Santino wins when Kong bodyslams Mark Henry and puts an unconscious Santino on top of him for the win, then throws Santino over her shoulder and carries him to the back. Kozlov makes a funny face. (* for the Match, Kozlov's funny face is declared to be a 3 on the Regal Scale)

And Kong can kill you.

I suppose it's worthless to hope for another Kong/Gail feud? I simply don't trust the WWE to run much of any angles right these days, let alone one with unattractive women who can wrestle.

Why I hate Naomi, I loves me some Kong. Hope she does well.

The WWE certainly has a good women's division now, if they chose to let them perform as wrestlers.

Remember just a few years ago, it was all skinny models who knew nothing about wrestling?

I don't watch TNA anymore (never really watched regularly in the first place) but I know who Kong is. She is definitely an impressive specimen, but despite that, I am still very surprised her signing would lead to a 3+ page thread. How likely is it that she's just another internet darling and the WWE Universe (I can't believe I actually use that term now) won't care as much?

The "WWE Universe" won't care because they've been conditioned not to care by 10 years of Diva Pillowfight matches.

What he said.

What's sad is that you could book Kong to be a star with you eyes closed. Just have a stupid typical gimmicky diva match with all the non-athletic divas. Kong comes in and kills them all. Then you build to matches with Natalya and ultimately Beth.

And yet, they'll probably blow the Phoenix match off on a Smackdown and have her do comedy angles for the rest of her contract.

As much as we all like Kong, let's be realistic, it doesn't make sense to bring her in and bury an entire division like this. I mean, if WWE signed Samoa Joe, you could get him over in an instant by having him come in at #1 in the Rumble and having him toss everyone out one at a time, but that'd be dumb and it'd also be burying the rest of your roster. As much as we want the women's division to be something more than it is, WWE seems content with it as is.

Adding to the womens division THROUGH Kong, and Destroying the Womens division, are 2 different notions.

They can be happy with the womens division, and still sign Kong, as an addition to it.

WWE mix and match says -

take something that was culturally relevant 10 years ago, and mix it with something that is vaguely relevent today.

Eddie Murphy movie Pluto Nash + Venus Williams =

Meet your new WWE Diva, Jupiter Nash.

Either that, or they call her Norbit.

You'd be giving the division a lot more credibility by bring in monster Kong and having Natalya and Beth step up to face the challenge then bringing Kong in as just another wrestler who wins some and loses some, so Undertaker's girlfriend doesn't have to look bad.

I don't think he meant what you think he was saying but yeah man cross the line, six sides of innovation, etc.

The thing about internet indy faves coming to WWE is that almost all of the recent ones have gotten over with the WWE Universe except for Colt Cabana (who I think only spoke on TV once). CM Punk was over from day one. Daniel Bryan and Evan Bourne's matches get great reactions and so did Kaval's before he became a two minute TV jobber. But Awesome Kong is the exact opposite of the smaller guys without extraordinary looks -- she's big and stands out a lot for obvious reasons. Even if her matches are nothing special because they're a minute long against girls who can't really take all her offense, she could still get over easily just by looking different and scary and crushing tiny girls. The onus is on the creative team who beat up a monster bodyguard in his second appearance to put her in a position to succeed though.
