Recapman, feel free to recap, man.

What a great three days for WWE. It's bittersweet that it won't last since their future shows will no longer 1) be in front of crazy Texas crowds, and 2) be so wrestling-heavy to kill time before the holidays. But for now let's just exult.

Three more strong matches to match the three from last night. Orton/Miz was a big step up from the PPV, not that surprising since a real match is more conducive to being good than tables bullshit. The Rey tag match was a blast. And Ziggler put on another excellent performance against Cena. I've always liked Morrison and Ziggler a lot, but they've been especially impressive as of late. Swagger and Kofi are on a roll too.

We'll just pretend the Kaval/McIntyre match didn't happen. Fuck's sake. The story that McIntyre has been booked into a TV romance with Kelly just to piss off his possessive wife is incredible; professional wrestling at its finest.

This thread will be posted again in taped form on Friday.

Better late than never, but it's ready.

TONIGHT! It's revenge time for Randy Orton, as he gets a one-on-one match with The Miz! Meanwhile, John Cena goes into a handicap match against Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero. Wait, what show am I watching again? Raw SmackDown is NOW!

WWE - The Champ Is Here!

Promo for tonight's show that's about to come on.

Opening credits - Do You Know Your Enemy? Opening pyro! We are LIVE from San Antonio, TX! Tonight, John Cena faces Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero in a handicap match. Plus, Edge makes his first statement since winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

RANDY ORTON v. THE MIZ (w/ALEX RILEY): NON-TITLE MATCH
Chimel gets on my good side with his introduction of "DA MIZ!" We get footage of last night's six-man match and Miz's cheap shot to end it.

We start with a long lock-up and "Randy" chant. Miz gets the first cheap shot, but runs away quickly. Orton chases him back into the ring and hits the THESZ PRESS, BY GAWD! Orton sends Miz outside again and tosses him into the barricades before clotheslining him and staring down Riley. Back in the ring, Orton continues the punishment and gets the guillotine catapult for 2. Miz hangs Orton on the top and hits a boot to the face for 2. Miz gets a knee to the back and rakes the face. Orton takes control again quickly, but runs into a knee to the gut. Miz elbows Orton down for a bit and hits a vertical suplex for 2. Orton mounts another comeback, hitting his backbreaker, a pair of clotheslines, and his powerslam. Orton goes for the hanging DDT, but gets backdropped onto the apron. Riley turns the tide by pulling Orton down. Miz follows up by tossing Orton into the steel steps to send us to our first ad break.

We come back with Miz firmly in control. He goes for the mounted punches and stomps away. Miz scales the turnbuckles, but gets crotched. Orton hammers on the dazed Miz and hits a second-rope superplex for 2. Both men trade blows with Orton winning the exchange. Back suplex gets 2. Backdrop attempt is countered and Miz hits a neckbreaker for 2. Miz tries the boot again, but it misses and Orton hits the dropkick for 2. Orton gets distracted by Riley, allowing Miz to hit a backdrop. Miz follows up with his corner clothesline. Miz follows up with a DDT for 2. Miz goes for the Skull-Crushing finale, but it's countered. RKO is countered with a backslide for 2. Orton gets the hanging DDT. VIPER COIL! Orton knocks Riley off the apron and hits the RKO on Miz! Orton covers, but Riley runs in for the DQ.

WINNER: Randy Orton by DQ - Decent match. DQ seemed unnecessary, but whatever.

Post-match, Orton disposes of Riley and measures Miz for the punt, as Cole goes apeshit. Riley runs back in for the save and gets an RKO for his troubles. Miz manages to escape.

We get a look at the End of Wade Barrett. See chairs fall on Barrett! Now see chairs fall on Barrett...in slow motion! Everything's better in slow motion! Dave Chappelle said so! Later tonight, The John Cena We Know will face Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero.

Backstage, The Big Santa walks around with Rosa Mendes and Hornswoggle, handing out gifts.

Ad break - I could plug whatever WWE plugged here, but I'd rather tell you that the Psych season finale looks awesome and you should all watch it!

The Big Santa and his elves join us. Show, Rosa, and Hornswoggle hand out gifts, as they come to the ring for a holiday promo. Show takes a seat...until the chair breaks! Yikes! That's live TV for you. Another chair is set up, as the crowd has fun at Show's expense. Show tells the story of last Sunday's TLC PPV in storybook form. Segment ends harmlessly enough, as I wait for the inevitable heel run-in. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes doesn't disappoint, as he runs in and wipes out Hornswoggle! Show can't make the save in time, as Cody Rhodes has just ruined Christmas! Bah humbug, indeed!

Later tonight, Edge makes his first statement as 10-time champion!

Ad break

Tomorrow night, it's Tribute to the Troops. Didn't this show already air on NBC last Saturday? Why are they talking about this show as if it hasn't happened yet? It's ok to say it's a replay, guys!

Raw Recap showing The John Cena We All Know. This video package is particularly cheesy. But ok, I'll admit I laughed at "Vickie's so fat that her baby pictures were taken via satellite." I am a terrible person.

Todd Grisham is backstage with Beth Phoenix. Her sick bump at the PPV was acknowledged, but she assures everyone that she's ok. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov enter the picture. Santino and Beth have the awkward exchange between exes. Santino wants a kiss and has Kozlov deploy the mistletoe. Beth points out that Santino's seeing Tamina, but Santino says it doesn't matter because they're different shows. Santino puckers up, so Beth kisses KOZLOV! Kozlov enjoys it a little too much, as Santino takes umbrage. Ha!

Ad break

SANTINO MARELLA (w/VLADIMIR KOZLOV) v. CHAVO GUERRERO
Poor Chavo doesn't get an entrance, so I'm assuming this is the big blowoff for this feud.

Match starts with Santino hitting an armdrag. Chavo goes to work on Santino, before Santino backdrops Chavo over the top. Chavo catches Santino coming back inand goes to work again. Chavo hits a belly-to-back suplex for 2. Santino makes the comeback with an armdrag. He raises the roof, but the saluting gorilla press hits knees. Chavo goes for the Three Amigos, but the third one is countered with the Santino Stunner. Santino hits THE COBRA~! to end this one quick.

WINNER: Santino Marella - And that's that. Back to obscurity for you, Chavo.

Coming up next, Edge makes his first statement as champion.

Ad break - Tribute to the Troops promo.

Edge comes down for his first statement as champion. It's been a long, rainy night, so no transcription tonight. Edge says the antics with Paul Bearer were all worth it, because he's a 10-time champion. He's quickly interrupted by Kane. Kane's had enough of the sentimentalities and says he'll be taking his belt back. Edge offers up a rematch right now, but Kane refuses. And...that's pretty much it.

Coming up next, Jack Swagger teams up with Alberto Del Rio to face Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio. But first, here's a bunch of chairs falling on Wade Barrett. Now here's a bunch of chairs falling on Wade Barrett...in slow motion! Later tonight, John Cena faces Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero.

Ad break

Ezekiel Jackson is coming to SmackDown. Not tonight, as originally planned, though. He's now "coming soon".

DREW McINTYRE v. JOBBIN' KAVAL
I remember Kaval started his reign of futility against Drew McIntyre a couple of months ago. Surely, he'll fare better this time around, right?

McIntyre ambushes Kaval coming in and beats the hell out him, stomping on his head for good measure. Ref checks on Kaval and offers to stop the match, but Kaval refuses. Bell rings and McIntyre hits a big boot. Future Shock, see ya, at less than a minute.

WINNER: Drew McIntyre - Kaval got zero offense. Between that and Cole making fun of him for the entire match, how is anyone supposed to take him seriously? Or is that not the intention?

Tribute to the Troops video package. It airs tomorrow on USA.

That last match was so short, we have time for another one! Tony Chimel welcomes in Ricardo Rodriguez. This week, Alberto Del Rio joins us in a white convertible Rolls Royce, as Rodriguez gives us a special introduction with EXTRA PICANTE! As Del Rio comes out to Christian's pyro, we take our next...

Ad break

ALBERTO DEL RIO & "THE ALL-AMERICAN AMERICAN" JACK SWAGGER v. KOFI KINGSTON & REY MYSTERIO
We get still photos from last sunday's PPV of Del Rio falling off a ladder, through a table.

We start off with Rey and ADR, as Kofi and Swagger go at it. Del Rio waffles Rey from behind while the ref deals with the other two and Del Rio GOES FOR THE MASK! Rey fights him off, but ADR hits a kick to the back for 2. Tag is made to Swagger, who hammers away. Tag to ADR, who stomps some more. Rey leapfrogs out of a corner whip attempt. Flying headscissors and Rey makes the tag to Kofi. Kofi hits a flying forearm for 2. Tag back to Rey and the faces get a double team atomic drop/springboard senton combo for 2. Tag to Kofi, as Rey holds ADR for a Kofi missile dropkick. Swagger breaks the cover, as ADR tries to take control again. Del Rio rushes in, but misses and falls to the outside. Swagger comes in and gets dumped. The faces both scale the turnbuckles and hit crossbody blocks on the heels! That sends us to our next ad break.

We come back with Del Rio hitting the chinlock, giving enough time for all the replays. Rey gets chucked onto the mat and Del Rio hits a soccer kick for 2. Tag to Swagger, as Swagger works Rey over. Bodyslam sets up the running Vaderbomb, which gets 2. Now we hit the bearhug. Rey gets out of it, but can't make the tag. Swagger rushes in, but gets sent into the turnbuckle. Kofi gets the hot tag and hits a springboard crossbody block. Kofi's a house of fire, but a Stinger splash is countered with Swagger pushing him off with his boots! Swagger hits a big boot for 2. Tag to ADR, who hits a back suplex for 2. Del Rio kicks Kofi around a bit and so does Swagger, behind the ref's back. Swagger tags in and works Kofi over. We hit the headlock. Corner whip is turned into a Kofi crossbody. Both men tag out and Rey comes in the fresher man. Tornado DDT gets 2. Kick to the head gets 2. Rey runs into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, which only gets 2 for ADR. Del Rio goes for a bodyslam, but Rey sets him up for the 619. Del Rio tags out as Rey goes for the move, allowing Swagger to nail him! Swagger looks for the Swagger Bomb, but gets tossed into the 619 position. Del Rio tries to save, but HE ends up in the 619 position. Rey goes for the 1238! Del Rio escapes, but Swagger doesn't and he gets hit with the 619! The move sends Swagger staggering into Trouble In Paradise! Rey Drops the Dime to get the win!

WINNERS: Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston - Awesome match! Best one SD's had in weeks.

See chairs fall on Wade Barrett! Now see chairs fall on Wade Barrett...in slow motion! Everything's better in sl...wait, I made this joke already. How many times are we seeing this footage? Handicap match comes later tonight.

Ad break - SmackDown airs on SyFy on Fridays

We are LIVE from San Antonio, TX!

We go backstage to Kelly Kelly. Drew McIntyre comes in and apologizes for last week. He talks about his intensity in the ring, but assures Kelly that he would never hurt her. Drew walks away, as Kelly looks puzzled. Hmm...where is this going?

Elsewhere backstage, Dolph Ziggler tries to talk Vickie Guerrero out of the handicap match, but Vickie demands he help her stretch.

Ad break

The New Year's Eve SmackDown will see Kane team up with Alberto Del Rio to face Edge and Rey Mysterio. AGAIN? Didn't we just HAVE that main event last week? AUGH!!!

DOLPH ZIGGLER & VICKIE GUERRERO v. JOHN CENA
We've got less than 7 minutes left in the show, but since this is USA, I'm guessing we'll get an overrun.

Match starts with the men, obviously, though getting Vickie out takes some effort from Dolph. Dolph rushes in with a clothesline, but Cena dodges it and hits the headlock. Dolph nearly turns it into a pin and hits his own headlock. Cena hits a shoulderblock and hits the headlock again. Dolph gets control with a right hand and stomps away. Dolph hammers away some more and pounds away in the corner, before Vickie makes the blind tag! Vickie looks to cause some damage, but Cena bench presses her off! She tags out to Dolph, who goes back to stomping. Dolph gets the fireman's carry and drops some elbows. He poses briefly and hits the jumping elbow for 2. Dolph works on Cena in the corner, but a corner whip is reversed. Cena hits a bulldog for 2. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Dolph shakes out of it and hits a DDT for 2. Cena rolls over to the opposing corner, as Dolph continues working him over. Hangman's neckbreaker gets 2, as we move into the overrun. Dolph hammers Cena, who falls to the outside. Dolph chases and slams Cena's head onto the announce table. Dolph tries to bash Cena's head into the steel steps, but Cena takes that idea for himself and bashes Dolph's noggin on the steel. Both men back in, but Dolph recovers first and hits a standing dropkick for 2. Dolph's vertical suplex attempt is blocked and Cena hits his own. Both men trade blows. Cena tries to whip Dolph into the ropes, but it gets reversed. Cena tries to hit the flying shoulderblock, but Dolph ducks it and Cena flies to the outside! Vickie taunts Cena before going back on the apron. Cena comes back in and hits a gutwrench powerbomb. Corner charge misses, though, and Dolph pounces with a chinlock. Cena tries to fight back, but Dolph hits a jawbreaker for 2! Dolph measures Cena, but Vickie blind tags herself in again! Vickie says You Can't See Me, but her running...something misses. Vickie tags out, but Cena comes back with The Usual. Cena looks for the Attitude Adjustment, but Dolph counters it with the Rocker Dropper! It gets a close 2! Dolph measures again for the Zig Zag, but it misses and he falls into the STF! Vickie breaks it up, so Cena gives her a Greco-Roman Liplock. Attitude Adjustment polishes Dolph off at about 14 minutes.

WINNER: John Cena - Even in a pair of losses, these matches have made Dolph Ziggler look like a million bucks. I think he's ready for the next big step.

Post-match, Vickie wants some more, so Cena picks her up for the Attitude Adjustment. But HERE COMES CM PUNK! He whacks Cena in the back with a chair and exits. Cena's down in the middle of the ring and Punk makes a triumphant exit. Show ends with one more look at the Tribute to the Troops main event and Cena standing up to his music.

FINAL THOUGHT

Best show SmackDown's had in week, thanks in large part to the Raw stars. It's worth saying again, but SmackDown needs credible faces badly, because it's just about time to elevate Dolph Ziggler.

Until next week, which might come late and/or abbreviated for obvious reasons.

I tried watching it, but Cole is killing this show and Raw for me. Just too much condescending shit from his mouth and laughing at everything that isn't even remotely. I guess they want to move Grisham out and have Cole do both shows which is a terrible idea. At this point with all the superstars guest starring on both shows, they might as well end the brand split since it seems like they can't get through one week without someone jumping ship to the other brand for a night. So, I guess that is the end of Nexus.

C'mon. They miss one week of shows to sell a beatdown by Cena and it's the "end of Nexus." Yup, it's the end. It's over. Throw all those new Nexus shirts we made and haven't sold yet in the furnace!

I still say the commentary has been the best and funniest it's been in a decade. I actually did a spit take when Striker said Vickie has the face of Adrienne Barbeau and the body of Adrian Adonis. And Josh questioning the logic of everything is almost like he and I share some sort of mind meld.

An open letter to Matt Striker (and Vince in his headphones),

PLEASE STOP THE "FAT" JOKES WITH VICKI GUERRERO!!! It's just awful and not remotely funny and offensive and I know she's a heel but that's NOT why she's hated and it never has been and it's also NOT TRUE...have you SEEN this woman on your OWN program in the past months? It's really unnecessary.

The actual wrestling content was quite enjoyable. And while I don't want to see a Kaval squash, I did at least love Drew's heel-tastic sneering of "Merry Christmas" to him.

He had more personality this show than he has since first arriving. If this was the Drew we were first introduced to, he'd be as cool as Alberto. Speaking of, Alberto looks more toned then when he first arrived. With a heel holding the IC title, there's no where for him and Cody and Drew and Swagger to move forward.

And Ziggler, bless him, brings it again. The main event featured another standout Ziggler display and a nonchalant Punk beatdown on Cena. I got my imaginary money's worth.

I may be late to the party here, namely because I haven't seen him in action much ... but does Dolph Ziggler remind anyone of a younger, better Billy Gunn (finisher aside) ... I was really impressed with this dude & his matches against Cena ...

I have to give WWE props for 2010 in that, they have really push new guys that are starting to look like viable stars ... granted they may never be the household names that Rock, Austin, HBK once were, but I can see some of these guys main eventing PPVs for the next few years ... Ziggler, Morrison, Miz, Sheamus, Barrett, Alberto, Daniel Bryan, etc ...

I've remarked to a friend a few times that Ziggler's look and offense would have made him a *HUGE* star in 80's Memphis wrasslin' Not sure how that goes over with fans who weren't alive then and weaned on that type of stuff, but glad to see him getting an apparent shot at becoming something more than mid-card type status.

The Smackdown heels are just great. Alberto Del Rio is going to be absolute gold for years to come. We can easily predict he will hold the main belt next year. I agree about Drew McIntyre, that last night he finally showed something that wasn't bland. The guy could really go places. Dolph Ziggler is just a bumping, selling machine and has a cool look. Reminds me of Mr. Perfect, almost to a tee. Swagger and Cody are lesser, to me, but I think they'll come along.
The problem is there are so few credible faces on Smackdown. Mysterio seems so slow and limited compared to what he used to do. Edge is so boring. Big Show is just a comedy act. And now I'm sitting here straining to think of any other viable faces. Oh yeah, Kofi Kingston...whose very presence is kind of annoying, with all of his flippy flopper enthusiasm.

Good point ... I feel as though it could fresh up with either Orton, Cena or Triple H making the move over there.

And I really like Big Show & how he's more of an attraction these days, but I really miss the ol' heel Big Show.

WWE Muppet Babies: Ziggler wrestles and takes wild, probably unsafe bumps exactly like Curt Hennig, to the point where they should just say he's Hennig's son instead of McGillicutty. Swagger's work and movement in the ring is like a cross between Angle and Lesnar, although obviously not as good as them yet. Morrison has the fluidity and body control of Shawn Michaels without the facial expressions. Kofi is sloppy but it works, like Rob Van Dam (CONTROLLED FRENZY). McIntyre is the pre-over Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

They should just do a soft reboot of everyone on SmackDown some day and set it up so that:

-Dolph Ziggler becomes Dirk Hennig, son of the late Curt Hennig

-"Dashing" Cody Rhodes becomes "Dashing" Cody Cena, kid brother of John Cena

-Husky Harris becomes Husky Rhodes, younger son of The American Dream Dusty Rhodes

-Michael McGuillicutty becomes Edwin Shyster-Quatermain, son of IRS, who uses his fictional mother's maiden name to honor her and went into law instead of accounting. After every match, he delivers a "closing statement" that requires him to deliver an impromptu speech on live TV every week because that would be awesome.

-Jack Swagger becomes Jake Angle, adult stepson of Eric Angle

-Michael Tarver becomes "Million Dollar Mike" Michael DiBiase, son of Virgil but raised to believe he's the child of Ted DiBiase and Sweet Sapphire after being bought and raised by DiBiase because Ted was so disappointed with his own flesh and blood son.

-Ted DiBiase Jr. becomes unemployed.

I like Shawn Michaels as much as anyone but household name? In wrestling fans households yes but the non wrestling fan has likely never heard of him. If you ask the non Wrestling fan to name wrestlers they've heard of I highly doubt his name comes up.

Is there a post of the year award I can nominate you for?

Except for maybe going Cody Martel, in agreement. Although Ted Dibiase Jr. could become Barry O Jr, Randy Orton's charisma-less cousin.

So we're also rebooting the Emancipation Proclamation?

I hate agreeing with the end of the brand split, but
a)this was an awesome show
b)the past month has mostly sucked
c) Dolph is ready for Prime Time. As in the spotlight, I don't think he's quite ready for Elix Skipper.

This has been exactly my point. It's all in the timing. But you have to go back even further than you did. Everyone harkens back to the days before monthly PPVs. The PPV before WM was the Royal Rumble. Think about it.
