If this was any other season, the Eagles lose by 7 and the story of the game would be Reid not challenging the Jackson fumble. The parting image would be the close-up, slo-mo footage of Reid putting the flag back in his pocket accompanied by the sad and serious "injury" music that Fox uses. Instead, this happens. This is the Vick redemption tour, and it seems like nothing can stop it.
None of this happens without David Akers' absolutely beautiful onside kick.
I just watched Dan Connolly's 71 yard kickoff return and the only thing I could think was "look at that...he's a faster runner than Brent Celek."
My favorite end zone celebration is when the player just throws the ball like a bullet into the stands.
There was a replay of the Jackson punt return where you could see Pam Oliver on the sideline with her jaw on the ground. My face is still like that.
I had the Patriots defense, Danny Woodhead and Shayne Graham and needed about 25 points from them to win the semifinal game in one of the W leagues. So, I am very happy Aaron Rogers was not playing tonight, for two fantasy football-related reasons: Rogers is without a doubt my favorite player in the NFL right now, and I would have felt bad cheering against him, and he would have been far less likely to get sacked on two of the final three plays of the game, fumbling away the ball on the last one, giving me the points I needed to win. But Matt Flynn played amazing, obviously.
Really a pretty positive loss for Green Bay tonight, all things considered. They took the best team in the league down to the final minute, Flynn looked mostly terrific (and now GB can get some picks for him in a deal with a team that needs a quarterback) and they didn't lose much ground in the playoff race given that the Buccaneers, Saints and Giants all lost today.
And now, the Packers get the Giants next week, who have to be reeling after that horrific loss to Philly. Let's see if Coughlin chews out any more of his players on national TV.
I don't know if it was someone at Deadspin that noted this, but it's a valid point. If this is a Donovan McNabb-led Eagles team, they would have totally folded in that fourth quarter.

I can't think of any play that's had me fly through so many emotions in so little time. From "aw shit" to ecstasy to "WTF ARE YOU DOING?!" back to ecstasy again. It was a fun, tortuous ride.
Also, Jason Avant taking out DeOssie (and himself) is my favourite Eagles related block since Clemons delivered a running chokeslam to Tarvaris Jackson.

In fairness, if this is a Michael Vick-led Eagles they probably get beat nine-and-a-bit times out of ten too.

Agreed, but the Packers had better start stringing together some real victories to go with their moral victories, or else this will go down as meaningful as when San Diego beat Indy in 2005 to end their perfect season: an awesome game, a sign of how truly good they were, and completely irrelevant as they then lost the next two games and missed the playoffs.

I turned the channel on my wife during the run back, she threatened to divorce when she saw the celebration in the endzone then thanked me for not letting get a stroke when Desean skinned the cat on the sideline. It never really amazes me anymore on how well a new QB plays against the Pats, its game two they figure them out thanks to the tapes. As a Steelers' fan even with the Browns and Carolina on the way, I feel a bad feeling going into those games without Troy whose absence makes that Defense go from Awesome to average. All the teams I hated won in pretty shitty ways yesterday, I need the Bears to pitch a shot out or at least have more points in fantasy then the Vikings' kicker.
I want to give Giants punter Dodge some leeway because he's a fellow ECU Pirate and look more to DeSean and the Giants defense. DeSean fumbled the ball. He should have been an easy target, but he runs past everybody, gets to the goal line, kills the clock (the smartest moment of the day), and scores the touchdown.
And then Connolly ... well, Connolly gave us the happiest play of the year. The announcers gave him way too much shit for carrying the ball the way he did, but check out the Packer whom he stiff-armed. That guy was going for the ball which Connolly had wisely moved to his sideline arm. He did it as right as you could, and we loved seeing the Patriot players swarm him after the play.

Jackson does not get the benefit of the doubt in this situation.
In one of his post-game interviews, Jackson thanked "my punt return team." I guess he's OK again being the PR. Wonder if he'll go back to practicing it. I've never hated someone that I love as much as Jackson.
The ironic thing is, McNabb is one of the few QBs other than Vick who is physically capable to pull off those runs. The question is, would he have? It just seems Vick turned something on where he channelled his inner-Chris Griffin and was like "I don't like to be TOUCHED!" and then was like "Fuck all y'all." It was amazing to watch.

Polamalu isn't necessarily out for those games. The thought was that if Pittsburgh beat the Jets to nearly clinch everything, they could rest Polamalu for the rest of the regular season through the bye.
Steelers will roll Carolina. Browns will be playing their Super Bowl at home in week 17 trying to cost us the division. But they'll be doing the same thing against the Ravens the week prior.
Can't really call it the New Meadowlands when the old stadium was never called the Meadowlands. Still beats a corporate bank name or something. Seems the Dolphins home gets a new name every year.

I only saw the highlights, but ... wasn't the clock already at :00 when he did his little goalline run?
When I saw the highlights on NBC, I could have sworn it included a game clock that showed him eat at least two seconds by running parallel to the line.
If that's wrong, I take back my kudos because then he should have gotten across the line to avoid a fumble.

I'd say it wasn't the best game that day by a former BCS-winning QB making his first career start.
