Donovan McNabb is now the third-string quarterback for the Redskins, since the team wants to see what they have in....Rex Grossman.

Yikes.

I was listening to the radio on the drive home, and former NFLer Harry Sydney was saying that from a player perspective, he respected that Mike Shanahan was honest about the situation (unlike for example the Haynesworth situation where he failed him on his physical two days in a row to show him who was the boss). Shanny says he needs to evaluate Rex Grossman and John Beck to see if the team needs to draft a QB early in the draft next year.

But I think that's stupid because he's giving Rex Grossman the start. Rex Grossman is in his 9th season (and John Beck is only one year younger, even though he's in only his 4th NFL season), so I think we know what to expect out of him by now. Furthermore, I don't think you go into the draft planning to draft whichever QB is still available at your pick. You need to evaluate them and decide whether they have the traits to succeed at the NFL level, and then decide whether that QB can help your team more than whatever other players might be available (a franchise left tackle or a shutdown corner, for example).

You've also managed to piss off the fans, who get 3 additional weeks of what you've told them amounts to an exhibition. And a lot of the players aren't happy either. You think Santana Moss (a 2011 free agent) is happy with the chance of having his stats (and therefore his future contract offers) depressed because Grossman's the QB?

I think Shanahan's losing control of this situation, and I may be wrong, but I get the feeling that all of this is happening so that he can put his son (Offensive Coordinator) Kyle in position to succeed. I don't think it's going to work, especially if they draft a QB. QBs take a couple years to be ready, and by 2012, Shanahan may be fired or resigned (and Kyle discredited).

He's 2nd string for the Dallas game, 3rd for the rest, unless Rex breaks his leg or something.

I'll hold you to that. I personally think there's no way McNabb isn't an Arizona Cardinal next season.

Who'd you rather have, the real weapons of the Vikings (Peterson, Schanko sp? Rice, Harvin) or the weapons of the Cardinals (Fitzgerald, beanie wells, and Breaston)?

The Vikings are set to WIN now. The Cards, not so much.

Does anyone know if Tom Jackson's kids are crying about this like they were when someone said 'mean' things about McNabb a few years ago?

The only reason I don't blame McNabb for his crappy year is that he is surrounded by old guys and some very old guys and he had a pretty nice year last year with good talent around him. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he bounces back on a team like the Vikes or Cards

I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, Donovan is also surrounded by one of the worst starting kickers (Gano, go home) and a bad offensive line. Then the defense gets hurt and all you have left is a quarterback stuck in a bad situation.

I love my Skins, but I will never support Sexy Rexy. I even hope they lose to my least favorite team in history, the Cowboys, just to prove how terribly run this organization is.

If the Cowboys are doing backflips over this news, it probably means something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

Probably my favorite Rex Grossman related thing (aside from the 'Unleash the Dragon' seal) would be this website. (reject8.ytmnd.com)

I can't believe that the Colts, by all appearances, at going to do the 'rest the starters' thing again even when they're 13-0. At what point does pride kick in and management realizes that they have a chance at history?
