Lately I've been watching whatever old PPVs I have lying around. Mostly stuff from the late 80s WWF. Is there an online resource or reviews of the PPVs that could give me more info on back story lines and perhaps even insider info from that era. Thanks.

I heartily recommend J.D. Dunn's reviews.

There's also Wikipedia, although because of their insane insular culture a whole bunch of the professional wrestling articles border on the unreadable.

Most of it is still online and he sells a .zip file of his complete work (check out rspwfaq.com and search there for details).

Thank you.

I've read the SmarK rant in the past and it's pretty good. Some rants are now dated because he did them in 1999 and compares what happened in 1990 to what was happening in WCW.

First time I've read Dunn, I like that he has all his stuff broken down by year and promotion. Seems like everything is complete, too.

Aren't all wrestling storylines well summed up by whoever's announcing or a montage prior to the PPV match?

I can't think of a single wrestling PPV/supercard EVER where some talking head, from Jim Ross to Tony Schiovane to Gorilla Monsoon, didn't go over the entirety of what had transpired according to storyline.

I've been a fan of Dunn, though he's not writing regularly anymore. Only problem is that sometimes he forgets about the match and elaborates on the backstory or goes off on pop-culture references. Sometimes a 19-minute match winds up being a 10-line blurb. But he's pretty good with history, which is what you want.

Insider info varies, depending on the writer, but this link might help you kill some time:

In addition to the main WWF PPV's of the 80's, we have junk like random episodes of "Wrestling Challenge" and compilation videos.

Our unofficial cut-off between "flashback" and "current" is roughly 2007. So 2007 and later stuff is here:
