Gold star to Cena for using the "Shirley, you can't be serious line." Punk was up and down on commentary but he did acknowledge how bad he was at times even though I thought him going solo at the end was pretty great. I have to ask the question is why is Cena doing guerrilla tactics now on Nexus instead of months ago? I am not really sold with having a heel King of the Ring followed by a heel win a championship TLC. Everyone did a great job with the main event from Cole to Miz to Jerry. I do find it ironic that Lawler was fighting in Philly in a hardcore match for his first title. Brock's inclusion may mean something as well as Lawler's profanity laced tweet.

I really ope it's the end of Cole (for now) as he and Punk sound waaaaaaaaay to much alike.

I also dug Punk's kudo's of respect to lawler at the end of the match. He's a heel, but damned if he doesn't give you respect if you deserve it.

Was very surprised at all the mentions of Brock and also the footage, too. Hell, they even threw out Savio Vega!!!!!

Vince must really not give a shit what Punk says with his mentions of Vinny's toupee and the haircut of some guy in a coma, (and Ted Turner's, too!) I WAS wondering what was up with the Colt tee, too. Nice.

I marked the fuck out when Miz went thru the table. For a moment there, I actually thought Lawler might get the title. Then Cole got up. That was that.

Am I the only one who is absolutely LOVING Alberto Del Rio as a heel? His facial expressions, his overly-heroic music, his Titantron video with him being all smug in some Mexican villa, his car entrance. And RICARDO RODRIGUEZ. My god, that man is awesome. I wish I had a weekly translation of what he says, but I can tell it is magnanimous hyperbole.

Great first speech by Champ Miz. "If someone tells you that you can't achieve your dreams, believe them. You're not like me." He's got the right tone for the weasel heel yet he cleanly pinned Orton to get the title. He really has worked his way to this position -- in character and reality -- and he uses that so easily for his gimmick. It makes him fun to watch. Still don't like The Stroke as a finisher though.

Nice build for the main event throughout the show. Lawler got a career montage AND the Arn Anderson rub (his continued TV presence makes me think he's getting in the HoF after all), and the match moved along well. Except, that is, for Cole's interference and inability to improvise until Lawler decked him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it." Over and over. That's weak for the voice of the WWE and doesn't give me hope for his full-on heel turn. I appreciate the young guys going through the tables and landing on ladders to save the softer spots for Lawler. It weakened them to the point that Lawler could compete AND protected him. That's smart stuff.

King Sheamus and Champion Miz make for a nice new balance of power. I also like the tweaked Nexus shirts.

Del Rio is amazing, and it's hard to believe he was not even with the company a few months ago. That is one new star who has been perfectly pushed so far.

As a fan of the King for 25 years, I was marking out near the end of the match. I am not sure he was the best opponent for the Miz his first week as champ, however, but at least it was well executed. Miz’s promo was great, but the suit was not.

I thought either Morrison or Sheamus would win KOTR going in, so I was excited as to who might win at the end. Rubber match at TLC?

After a bit of thought, the entire Michael Cole thing from last night makes perfect sense. They could even make it into a face turn for Cole.

As the Miz said, he's been shit on from day one, not only by the fans but by management and the locker room. Everyone told him he couldn't do it, that he'd never succeed.

In a similar fashion, Michael Cole is constantly being told that he'll never be half the announcer that Jim Ross was.

Cole is living vicariously through The Miz. When the Miz started skyrocketing to the top against expectations, he saw himself in the Miz. When the Miz got stuck with that nerd Daniel Bryan, he saw a parallel to when Michael Cole was stuck with that nerd Todd Grisham on Smackdown. Cole felt that Grisham was holding him down (Cole's best work was probably with JBL, after all, so he did go down a notch when paired with Grisham) and he was afraid that Daniel Bryan would have the same affect on The Miz. When Alex Riley came into the picture, Cole saw him as The Miz's JBL (or maybe Lawler, but the JBL/Riley jokes write themselves.) thus he was exorbitantly high on him.

And when Miz cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and won the WWE Championship, Cole saw it as proof that he, too, could achieve his dreams, because unlike the WWE Universe, he believes himself to be special on the same level as the Miz.

So when it looked like Jerry Lawler might make the ultimate comeback and take Miz's title, it was the realization of Michael Cole's worst nightmare. After all, who is the person most closely associated with Jerry Lawler in the WWE Universe? Jim Ross. The very man who's shadow Michael Cole is trying to escape. The very man that people are constantly demanding take Michael Cole's spot. If Jerry Lawler could capture the WWE Championship from The Miz, what's to stop Jim Ross from showing up again next week and kicking Michael Cole out of the broadcast booth?

So when Michael Cole told the King that he was sorry, that he didn't mean it, it was sincere. He felt horrible about ruining his colleague's dream, but he felt it was the only way to protect his own dream. It's survival of the fittest, and sometimes you have to eat your friends.

-----

Is it safe to say that that was the best TLC match of all time as far as story telling is concerned? Has there every been another TLC match that actually told a story? Maybe the one that Benoit & Jericho won when Benoit was taken out of the match, only to return later for the win.

Nobody has mentioned my favourite bit of commentary from Punk, after Rey Mysterio distracted Alberto del Rio by climbing into his Rolls Royce and honking the horn:

CM Punk: This guy has no business trying to steal the man's car.
Michael Cole: How do you know he was trying to steal it?
Punk: Because he's Rey Mysterio.
Cole: And??
Punk: And that's what he does! He's a car thief on the side!
Cole: None-the-less, John Morrison picks up the victory thanks to the distraction.
Punk: He stole my car twice.

Justin Gabriel's head hitting the side glass was so vicious that I'm wondering if it was on purpose. Cena seemed to hesitate and looked a bit concerned after that first spot, but apparently he was fine since they continued.

Good start to Yoshi Tatsu's undefeated streak on Raw. Mark Henry mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he needed a replacement partner after Evan Bourne was hurt. Has there every been an angle where part of a team got hurt and when he got back, his partner wasn't interested in teaming since he'd had more success with another partner?

The GM said that only Wade Barrett can reinstate John Cena. This is presumably because Wade Barrett is the leader of Nexus and the terms of Cena's contract stated that he had to be a member of Nexus. The contract doesn't state that he has to submit to Wade Barrett personally, however. So if the rest of the members of Nexus were to kick Barrett out of the group and appoint David Otunga as the new leader of Nexus, Otunga should then have the power to reinstate John Cena to the WWE. I'm guessing that's the plan that Otunga has in mind.

I think they dropped the ball by putting the crown on Sheamus. While I think he'll make a good king, I don't think he'll benefit from it much. Whereas King Morrison vs Champion Miz could have added an interesting twist to that rivalry. From what I can remember, Miz has won all of the major confrontations (Survivor Series, Bragging Rights) while I think Morrison picked up one or two unimportant victories. Being King of the Ring would have given Morrison some momentum to propel him up the card to a possible Royal Rumble title match against Miz.

And if they really wanted to put it on Sheamus, why go the chicken shit route of giving him a bye?

Also, I'm intrigued about Punk's comment about how William Regal chose not to throw his name into the hat for the King of the Ring and that how his career was at a crossroads and he wasn't sure where he was going to go next. Is that a hint that Regal is contemplating retirement?

Anywayz, decent show overall, probably really good as far as 3 hour Raws go. Not sure how smart it is to have two 3 hour Raws within 14 days, but I guess we'll find out. Can we get the Miz and/or Punk to host The Slammys?

We are not ready for Drew/Sheamus. We haven't reached that stage of evolution yet. We need space monoliths to prepare us.

The Cole theory is strong, and the only thing keeping me from endorsing it is Riley's presence. Does Miz need two hangers-on? Can he carry a stable of yes men? Can Miz one-up Del Rio's personal announcer with a personal commentator? He doesn't need a mouthpiece.

Rajah.com had something during the WWE's latest England tour that Regal gave some sort of pseudo-kinda-sorta "I'm gonna retire soon" speech. I don't remember the details or if it was later explained more fully, but perhaps that's what it's in reference to.

Did anyone else notice that they took Cena out of the opening montage, especially with replacing Cena holding the belt up at the end with Miz doing it from last week? Cena is GONE from Raw, muthafuggas!

Oh man, I think not. Just because Miz is the flavor the IWC right now, doesn't mean we have to make these statements. This match was actually a repeat of a much better match with Edge/Flair due to blood, ubberslut Lita and the fact that Flair winning is not as impossible as Lawler winning or would it have been as bad for Edge as it would be for Miz if the older wrestler won. Its a re-run with two better wrestlers doing it before. Granted, I thought it was very well done and it was good for Lawler as well as probably moving Cole out of the announcing booth. I am not sure it helped Miz much other then showing he is a beatable champ and is weasel plus Cole is in love with him. I am actually a fan of the WM 2001 TLC match out of all the TLC matches.

He said best match story, though. He has a point. Flair/Edge was similar (or the same, even) and had the same near-misses where it really looked like the old guy was going to do it, but that match also revolved around a lot more violence and Flair's willingness/desire to take a lot of punishment as opposed to this one's couple well-timed comebacks and timely table breaks. Wasn't Flair's family at ringside though, so there was that aspect. Thinking of storylines in TLCs the only other one I remember is the end of DX/Jerishow when Big Show broke all the ladders so Michaels had to climb one while Triple H held it up.

This is an awesome analysis of the Cole/Miz relationship, but I don't see how it in any way represents a face turn for Cole.

I watched Raw last night and I thought it was the night they could have made Morrison. They built him up really well and going into the finals he was a huge underdog with the bad arm, and facing a fresher Shamus. His winning would have been huge.

This was the first full RAW I've watched in ages.

-Shaemus was probably the absolute worst choice to win the tournament. I've never liked the guy and I have no idea why the office is so in love with have. But put that aside and he needed it the least. He's already been a world champion, so he has the cred that KOTR provides.

-I never watch Smackdown so this was the first I've seen of Del Rios. Really like that gimmick and I think he would have gotten a ton more mileage out of being King.

-Remember when everyone thought that Morrison was gonna be the Shawn Michaels out of Miz/Morrison?

-I almost wonder if there is a little bad blood between Cole and Punk for real. There were quite a few ackward moments where they were stepping on each others lines. Your best heel/face announce teams play off each other, they don't try and 1 up the other (see Gorilla/Heenan or even Vince/Ventura).

-They seem to be setting up a face turn for Punk.

-Great promo from Miz and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't channel so real emotion for it. Especially the JBL part. Wonder if he had a bad shower experience?

-Great main event that had me actually wondering if they'd have the balls to put the belt on Lawler.

I was thinking last night that some of Punk's criticisms of Miz during the match (even though he praised him at the end of the show) could lead to a nice, slow burn toward a title feud between the two.

I had Del Rio pegged for weeks as your new KOTR, especially with Striker making all the references to him being a descendant of royalty...but I'm fine with King Sheamus.

I think that was because Punk is still learning the ropes of the Voices In His Head and he and Cole both said the same line at the same time, that one of them was being fed. It happened twice.

I loved almost all of Punk's commentary, especially how at the end, he was all alone and got to be the Voice Of RAW. One exception: didn't need the Pat Patterson/Cody Rhodes gay joke in there...c'mon, Hunter's not on the show right now...
