At least this eliminates the potential for the #4 or even #3 team in the country being stuck in the Poinsetta Bowl.
Oregon was down at the half, so still wouldn't consider that winning easy.
Alabama should have been up at least 31 at the half except for the 2 crippling turnovers.
Auburn showed again they can take a punch.
Wannestadt with a chance to position himself for a BCS game loses again. Something at least stay consistent.
UCONN controls their own destiny for a BCS game. That is sad. West Virginia gets the Big East title, I won't complain because at least they have a track record of being able to compete against high level competition.

Well, so now it's easy at least, in that we're down to one potential non-AQ crashing the party. The question now moves to what has to happen for TCU to crash the title game.

I'm convinced that Oregon's in, even if they lose a close one in the Civil War. They get blown out then this is all out the window, but if they lose by one score or something, they don't drop enough to fall to #3. Auburn is a different story, just because if they lose, it'll drag up Nebraska again, and the argument that a team that loses it's conference championship shouldn't play for the National Championship. TCU, in that situation, probably gets in over a 1-loss Auburn.

Now, the REAL fun, of course, is if both Oregon and Auburn lose. If TCU winds up as the only undefeated in the country, and somehow DOESN'T play for the title, that might, might (probably won't) spur some sort of change in the system.

Oregon loses and Auburn and TCU win, Oregon is in the Rose Bowl. Late season loss, the computer hates losses compared to non loss teams, and Oregon State lost to TCU and Oregon would have lost to Oregon State.
If both Oregon and Auburn lose, then it gets interesting. Does LSU or Stanford pull a double jump and play TCU, or do the voters decide they really don't want any of that bullshit and put the Big Ten champion in. Also, how much fun is it if all 3 Big Ten teams win this week, but enough upsets happen next week that the 2nd Big Ten team jumps the 1st Big Ten team in the final BCS poll in a week when none of them play?
TCU loses to New Mexico and it is the biggest choke job in college football history.
Enough weird things happen, and split national championship becomes a possibility.

Flashback to 2006: #2 Michigan loses to #1 Ohio State, on the road, by three points, then subsequently drops below a whining Urban Meyer's Florida squad.

And down goes LSU. Did anyone have Stanford or Wisconsin as #4 this late in the season?

True, though I think that Oregon has a little bit of a buffer in going into their game as #1, and, assuming that Auburn wins the SEC title game, I don't think that TCU can leap an Oregon team that loses a close game to Oregon State. If State blows their doors off, that's a different story, but if the Civil War ends 48-45 or something like that, I don't see Oregon falling to #3.

I am not a Florida State fan by any stretch. But they are the least awful of the three other BCS teams in the state besides USF. And that ass whooping they handed Urban Meyer and the Gators was one of the most satisfying non-USF games I have seen in years. I loved every minute of it.

Coupled with USF's overtime win over Miami, and this was the best Saturday I've had all season.

Best weekend of the season already. Last nights Boise game was as fun a game as I've ever seen. So glad I stayed up to watch that.

And then today somehow Maryland hangs on to a three TD lead with six minutes left. Barely. I had no faith in them to do it, and they needed ref help, but still.

USF beating Miami was a ton of fun to watch too, but then I just found out it got Randy Shannon fired and I was kinda hoping he would stay there forever.

And finally FSU beats Urban Meyer. I'm giddy. Off the charts happy. Now if they can actually beat VT and get to a BCS bowl that will be one hell of a first season for Jimbo. Heck it already is.

I said last year that I didn't think Fisher was the guy for Florida State, but I think it's pretty likely I was wrong. It's hard to not be impressed with his first season at Florida State.

I'm also very interested to see who Miami hires. This is an important hire for them. Obviously every football head coaching hire is important, but in terms of success on the field, the move to the ACC has not paid dividends for Miami.

That god awful streak for the Irish gets put to rest in the Coliseum.
Only in an LSU game could a team score from 80 yards out with 6 seconds to go.
Holtz's kid did something even Lou couldn't do: Beat Miami on the road. So, does this mean the U isn't back?
Matt Millen endorsing Rich Rodriguez was hilarious. If that isn't a death knell for a coach in the state of Michigan, I don't know what else could be. BTW, do they still flash 'This is the moron who built an 0-16 team' on the screen whenever he speaks?
After Michigan State did what only Michigan State could possibly do after fumbling the game clinching interception, was anyone else positive Penn State would recover the onside kick and pull off the miracle?
Yes, I wanted Wisconsin to hang a hundred.

Yeah, Fisher is looking good right now. Shame they are two easy plays from 10-1, but still I'm happy. And the already great recruiting class will likely jump to top two if not top after all the recruits they had on the sidelines today.

Miami fans for some crazy reason want Gruden. I don't think that would work, but whatever. They have talent still, but last years and this years recruiting classes are terrible so they'll have to correct that in a hurry.

Also, the OU game was a perfect way to end such a fantastic day. That was fun.

Yeah I've been lurking around a Miami Hurricanes message board all week, and many (MANY) of the posters are just obsessed with the idea of Gruden being their next coach.

Not only do I not think Gruden would want it, I can't imagine why anyone would want Jon Gruden to be the coach of their college football team. The defining trait of Gruden during his career as an NFL coach has been that he prefers older veteran players to young guys with stuff to learn. Plus, I doubt Miami could offer him enough money to convince him to take it. If he wanted to get into the college game, there have been one or two other openings in the past year that would have been at least as attractive as Miami, I would think.

I hate to say it, because this always happens in the Big East, but I'm thinking Randy Edsall of UConn and Greg Schiano of Rutgers are two potential candidates, though both have probably seen their stock drop slightly after seemingly being on rapid ascents just a couple of years ago. Schiano is a former defensive coordinator at Miami. Rutgers had a pretty terrible season this year, I bet Schiano wishes he had gotten out of that dump when he was still a hot commodity.

Maybe they'll hire Jim Leavitt!

EDIT: Just to be clear, I don't actually think they'll hire Jim Leavitt.

Edsall gets to a BCS Bowl he becomes a hot coach again.
Schiano missed his opportunity.
Major problem for Miami is that they have zero home field advantage anymore. Playing around an hour off campus in front of people disguised as empty seats isn't the Orange Bowl of the 80's and 90's.
I know he's toxic now, but Mike Leach would at least bring back the swagger to Miami. Rich Rodriguez might also be an interesting candidate should the Matt Millen endorsement not hold up.

Notre Dame finally beats USC on the field and I don't get to see it. Even when my Irish win, I lose. Anyone else think Boise's field goal at the end of regulation was good? I can't imagine an Auburn team that is not a SEC champ or an Oregon team losing to a weak ass team like Oregon state going to the championship game. The Big 10 and Big 12 are now in the messy business of letting the BCS decides their champs or the teams playing in the title games. Cam has locked up the Heisman. I still don't understand how a team like Boise State is going to a crap bowl, but a three to four lose Big East team waltzs right in as well as a Virginia Tech team they already beat. Something is defiantly wrong with this system.

Every single team in the Big East has a higher strength of schedule than Boise State, according to this site:

http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/current_congrove_rankings.html

The numbers were entering this past week. Boise State is 80th. Pitt, the top team in the Big East by strength of schedule, is 45th. And while you might retort by saying Pitt is not likely to win the Big East, it's not looking like Boise State is going to win the WAC either.

Here are the Big East teams' strength of schedules:

Pitt - 45
USF - 47
Cincinnati - 48
Louisville - 54
West Virginia - 65
UConn - 66
Rutgers - 71
Syracuse - 77

Nevada has beaten *nobody* but Boise State. That loss is inexcusable.

EDIT: Actually, I looked at the standings and saw that Hawaii is also at one loss, and it's one of those "each was 1-1 against the other two scenarios," so it probably comes down to BCS ranking. We'll see if Nevada passes Boise State, personally I doubt it, so Boise State probably will win the WAC. Their schedule is still softer than the schedule of any BCS conference team I can find, even in the weak Big East or ACC.

EDIT 2: Just because I was interested in compiling it, here are the numbers for the ACC:

Miami - 7
North Carolina - 14
Florida State - 16
NC State - 18
Virginia Tech - 28
Duke - 39
Clemson - 40
Wake Forest - 43
Georgia Tech - 44
Virginia - 59
Maryland - 65
Boston College - 76

Big East average: 59
ACC average: 38

Not a favorable comparison for the Big East, unfortunately, but both of these numbers look amazing compared to the WAC, which only has one single team (San Jose State, at 49) with a strength of schedule stronger than the Big East average. In fact, the only other WAC team with a strength of schedule stronger than the Big East's worst team is Utah State, which checks in at No. 69.

One more EDIT: I went ahead and figured out the WAC average. It's 80.

Nevada was 18th in the country while no Big East team is ranked in the top 25. I am also not sure how the strength of schedule is going to look if VT wins the ACC, a team Boise beat. Ohio State hasn't beaten anyone with fewer then three losses. Name a win the Big East has over a team in any of the BCS title confrence games, not the winners, but just a team, hell I will give you teams in the running to get into those games. None. The Big East is a joke and I am sure given the choice the BCS would rather have Boise State then some doormate Big East team in any of the bowl games. Automatic qualifiers should be eliminated and teams in the top 10 to 15 should be given those spots. Automatic qualifiers are another tool of the cartel.
