Honestly, I would have waited until after the Giants game. If the team loses that game with a new coach, the firing looks like the wrong fix for the problem.

Don't you want to put your team in the best position to win after changing coaches? Even hardcore Dallas fans have to admit it's unfair to expect Garrett to whip the team into shape to beat NY in six days.
Their best hope now is to assume a NY clobbering and prepare to beat Detroit a mere four days before you host the Saints on Thanksgiving. After that, they have Indy, Phil, Wash, Ari, and Phil again.
This makes sense to me only if the game coverage last night suggest the players are scuttling the game to spite Phillips. Collinsworth wasn't willing to say that outright, even as he pointed out boneheaded plays by Jones and Ware.

It's a total no-win situation. There's just no way to stop the bleeding, especially having to go to New York next. And it's not like Garrett's offense has been lighting the world on fire this year, either. Does Dallas win another game this year?
Cowher is eyeing up the Carolina job. Its under the radar enough there is little or no pressure and less of a slight to Steelers' nation then the Cowboys job. He also lives a few hours away. Firing Wade makes no difference to that team when Romo is on the bench and Garrett refuses to run the ball with all the weapons they have. If anything, he did Wade a favor by getting him out of there. If Garrett wins 50% of the games, he stays if not then the hot can not miss assistant is out on his ass.
Finally!! I never like to see a man fired, but this team had quit on him and was totally undisciplined. I am a Cowboys fan, and this season has been the most disappointing season I have seen in 27 years. That includes the 1-15 season, because that team sucked, and this team is loaded with talent.
I have always understood that Garrett was the heir apparent, so I think he will keep the job, assuming he can put together a decent second half of the season.

One of the factors in the Dallas coaching decision is that with the lockout looming next year, Jones apparently isn't on hiring a coach and then paying him a year while the league is on ice. Garrett might continue to be the coach through whatever exists of the 2011 season, and then once a labour deal is made, Jones will hire a big name.
The real problem, of course, is that Jones won't step down as the GM and get out of a good football man's way. If you're Cowher/Gruden/etc. who want a say in personnel, why would you want to coach in Dallas and have Jerry looking over your shoulder?

As a Giants fan, this concerns me. They had quit on Wade, and I was hoping for the 4th quarter to be New Giants Stadium chanting DALLAS IS DEAD! with the score 45-3. Now, they might get that one week jolt of pride that makes them competitive.

I always thought Carolina would be the place for him but Cowher has said that he learned from life before Roethlisberger and after Roethlisberger, and that he wants to go to a team that already has an established quarterback so he doesn't have to start from scratch in his 50s. Dallas would fit that. On the surface I'd think he'd want to avoid that circus, but as nauseating as it is for me to think about, he could probably stomach the mess for a few years and bank the $20m/year or whatever he'll get, while taking over a team that already has some good talent in place. Seems like the easiest course of action for him would be to wait for the other shoe to drop on Norv Turner.

If he wants to stay away from people like Ben, I don't see Phillip cry baby Rivers being a place he wants to go. There are not many options besides Dallas on where he could go. Maybe Denver if Orton keeps putting up the yards, but you have the pain in the ass job of training Teabow as well since he is on the billboards for whatever reason up there. I still say Carolina if he comes back and with the recent death of his wife, we may not see him back at all. Clausen is bad, but the main problem is the O-line. They have good RBs and an ok defense. He can fix that stuff by drafting as well as he did in Pittsburgh and some good assistants. I can easily see him in Cincy after Marvin gets axed and he will be a giant pain in the ass to everyone in that division. He would have been perfect for the Giants if Coughlin didn't once again save his job for the hundredth time.

He wants to stay near people like Ben, i.e. the great quarterbacks. This was the original article, he agrees with you about the Giants.
Originally posted by Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette This is the last year of Marvin Lewis’ contract and I would not look for him to be back next season. In fact, here’s a prediction: Lewis will be the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach for Bill Cowher’s team next year.
Which team will that be? Bill has been picky until now and has said he will never get another job like the one he had in Pittsburgh. That’s true and no job is perfect. But the one in Dallas is as close as they come. Cowher would step into the kind of situation he stepped into when he joined the Steelers in 1992. The team is brimming with talent and it has one of Cowher’s requirements, a good quarterback.
Cowher has told me that if he returns to coaching, he would have to have an established quarterback. Looking over the field, I see only two situations that offer that and one appears to already be eliminated – the New York Giants. Tom Coughlin has them cooking again, the hottest team in the NFL right now. The other is Dallas, which will be looking for a coach. Many people will look at the Carolina Panthers, look where Cowher lives and automatically marry the two. I don’t think so. The Panthers have no quarterback.
The perfect management team would be the Giants, but Cowher could work in Dalls for Jerry Jones, at least for several years. And that job looks to be one that both can pay him a huge amount and pay dividends on the field, where Cowher would not have to rebuild a team in his mid-50s.
Other possibilities? Houston and Tampa Bay if either of those teams fold in the second half.
He's going to be in San Diego. Even if Rivers is a crybaby, he is leading the league in yards and they have a decent RB, they have Antonio Gates, and they can make do at WR.
San Diego would make the most sense, as a coach who brings discipline and a clue could be scary with that talent. Chicago could also be a spot if Lovey is relieved of his duties at the end of the season.

Texas has no state income tax. California is one of the highest-taxing states in the country.
Advantage, Cowboys.

VTech is not the class of the ACC. Right now it's too early to tell between VT, GT, Clemson, and FSU. IMO, any of those could wind up winning their division. If I had to rank the ACC teams from 1-12 (as a Maryland/ACC fan), I'd go:
