The title sums it up. The Cablevision-News Corp cable fees dispute (Cablevision's third such dispute in the last year) currently has Fox 5 in the NY area AND Fox 29 in Philadelphia blacked out. I am so sick of listening to Cablevision's self-righteous looped message that's playing on Fox right now (I don't take sides in these things- I hate both sides equally).
Ultimately, I expect this to be settled by game time, but just in case it isn't, my question is, does MLB Network have the right to air a nationally televised game (in part or in whole)?

I don't see any way that's possible, especially since it's only one provider. Others in that area - terrestrial, DirecTV, Dish Network, telephone TV and other cable customers - will have access to Fox, which means MLB Network would have to put a feed of the Fox broadcast up on just Cablevision...which violates the whole point of this thing.
As far as highlights go, maybe, but probably not in a serious enough fashion to replace game coverage.
No on MLB network. Remember, the stations are still being broadcast, just not being put on Cablevision. That means either hit a bar to watch the game, or disconnect the cable and see if the over the air channel comes through on your talking picture box.
I didn't even know Cablevision had any foothold in the Philly market. Kabletown (aka Comcast) is practically a monopoly, with Verizon Fios probably a distant second.

Good advice in Philly.
Not so good advice in NYC.
Actually, 1210AM comes in pretty well in a lot of the New York area, and the New York ESPN Radio station was carrying the game, too (although joined in progress after the end of the Yankee game, and with the national announcers).

Yeah, I forgot to mention ESPN radio. Shulman and Campbell were doing the NL game. I don't know who was doing AL game (Miller/Morgan?, Boog and someone).
I've been listening to the games at night at work in the car (in Northern MD) on ESPN 1000 from Chicago.

Not everyone in New York is a Yankees fan, and not everyone who watches the NLCS will be a Giants or Phillies fan.
The NLCS is important to me, but it is not the most important thing being blacked out, as the New York Football Giants are playing the 1:00 game, and as of 1:15 cannot be seen on Cablevision.
Also, NewsCorp was blocking access to Fox.com and Fox content on Hulu for Cablevision Internet subscribers (paidcontent.org). This is getting interesting in a scorched-earth kind of way. I fear what this means the next time Comcast (my ISP) gets into 'negotiations' with a content provider. It'd be nice if there were more options for cable subscribers. I know that the availability of satellites and now FiOS means that cable doesn't have a monopoly, but this crap makes that seem ridiculous. Does anyone really have the leverage to drop Cablevision and move to another provider while this goes on?
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
Does Cablevision offer RedZone? If so, how is this impacting that, if at all. If it is offered and being shown, it is a partial back door around not seeing Fox football coverage.
I don't know if it's hypocrisy, but I would like to point out the contradiction in Cablevision acting like the 'victim' in having FOX off the TV while they are doing the same with keeping MSG network off all Direct TV subscribers. Full disclosure: The Dolan family, which owns Cablevision, also owns the NY Rangers, Knicks, and MSG, so they can force viewers to have to subscribe to their cable system if people want to keep track of NY sports during the winter. I don't think that's right, but they seem to get away with it every time Cablevision goes through this.
On the plus side, the blackout makes people in the metro area go to sports bars like the one I work in to see the football/ baseball games, so we end up getting extra business. The same thing happened when Cablevision blocked out ABC right before the Emmys, IIRC; people were actually reserving rooms at the hotel just to watch the show on a different provider.
Special thanks to CRZ for reopening this thread. Just wanted to let those in the NY metro area know that the Jets-Packers game on Sunday is going to be affected by the dispute. Normally, Jets games would be shown on CBS. But because the Giants have a bye and the Jets are playing a NFC opponent, the game is moved to FOX. Which means if you have Cablevision, you're probably not going to be able to see the game on either channel. You may get an out of market game on CBS, but otherwise, you're out of luck.
Between this and missing the World Series, this is a bad weekend to be a Cablevision user. And unfortunately, the dispute doesn't look to end anytime soon, so we may be missing more major sporting events in the near future.

You're close.
CBS has the rights to AFC away games and Fox has the rights to the NFC away games.
Since the away team is Green Bay, Fox has the rights to the game, regardless of who the Giants would be playing if not for the bye. In this setting, NFC away & AFC home, the game would NEVER be on CBS. It wasn't "moved" from one network to the other.
