Make that Todd Margret. Sorry!Anybody else catching this show on IFC? David Cross is super awesome as an inept salesman sent to England by his new boss (Will Arnett playing the same role that he always does) to sell an energy drink. He is pretty much the worst person in the world, and gets caught up in every lie he tries to get away with.

Overall I think it's a pretty good show.

I've only seen the first episode, but so far, I love it. Miles ahead in the inevitable comparison against the lame & sappy Running Wilde. This guy is such a schmuck -- it's a much bigger character than the one he played/s in both AD & RW. I think the Will Arnett character here is a much bigger asshole than usual -- certainly wields more power over others. The one employee in England, who quite deliberately tosses the totally inept boss into the shit is also great.

I personally have always had a sense of humour failure around both versions of The Office, but I could see this being a big fave!

I free admit to thinking this was about the poor decisions made by Todd Martin in his RAW reviews.

More accurately, the poor decisions of those who choose to read his reviews.

I was intrigued by the premise and series after being inundated by ads every time I went to Fark.com. However, looking up the reviews, a lot of people said the show is more mean-spirited than it could be and I didn't find a lot of positive stuff on the show, so I haven't gone out of my way to see it.

I thought the first episode was terrible, with uber-asshole GOB being the only good thing, but also a thing that was already getting old by the end of it.

Lloyd: When I met Mary, I got that old fashioned romantic feeling, where I'd do anything to bone her.
Harry: That's a special feeling.

I always like David Cross's quirky delivery and overall crass n' goofy demeanor, so I liked the first episode. His little energy-drink influenced bit about the Rocky movies made me laugh; even though it wasn't funny on paper.

If you have Comcast, I believe they still have the first few episodes available under IFC On Demand. Yeah, even the ones that haven't aired on the regular "live" IFC.

Wow -- my brain just error-corrected without even noticing. (Maybe we could put "Todd Margaret" in parens in the thread title?)

"More mean-spirited than it could be..." Huh? No, it certainly isn't nicey-nice. Is there a mandate that edgy, dark comedy shows are supposed to be sweet? We might have been sympathetic if he hadn't started off with the great big lie that he was in any way competent to take the $120K job running the office in London. The "Bad Sanitation" stickers & other "concerns" about the quality of the product don't seem to have any ethical meaning. From there, he keeps on lying, badly & persistently. That resolve to maintain the bullshit & keep digging in deeper -- in the face of all reality -- is also not a sympathetic characteristic. Why *should* any of these people be nice to him? And he's a cat killer! Doesn't he deserve what he gets?

Besides, I think we have a story arc going someplace across the series. Of course, there's an undercurrent of inept nice guy under the pathetic attempt at managerial bravado. But he has to learn his lesson that simple bullshit will get you in way over your head!

Meanwhile, as to episode 2:

The charges being read at the beginning of every episode are different! That'll be interesting to watch. As will the animal population in his US apartment.

Loved, loved, loved the guy in the hazmat suit disposing of the cans in the supermarket. Took me til then to realise why the proprietors at Ahmet & Sons were so innnnnterested in the sample can of Thunder Muscle.

I'm convinced that there's much more to Dave than we know so far.... :-)

There's a substantial understory going on here -- I love that!

My original intention was to start a thread talking about all of the cancelled network shows that were going to have unaired episodes burned off over the summer. After reading through this week's TV thread, I figured it would have been useful.
