TONIGHT: Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho is the main event of this taped Raw, the go-home show for Hell in a Cell (already!). That match is also being billed as “first-time ever on Raw.”

-WWE Open.

-A video package of The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan from Night of Champions, as well as the attack on Bryan from last week’s Raw opened the show. Interesting selection.

-Raw Open.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler opened the show by plugging Orton vs. Jericho. If Jericho wins, he becomes the #1 Contender for the WWE Title.

-The Miz and Alex Riley came out. Miz cut a promo on the way to the ring, saying Bryan has challenged the two of them to a tag match tonight. He thought Bryan learned his lesson last week and said every Monday, Miz embarrasses Bryan. Bryan came to the ring to his new music from last week. Miz asked Bryan who his tag partner would be, and it ended up being John Morrison, whose music cut off Miz’s catchphrase.

(1) The Miz & Alex Riley vs. Daniel Bryan & John Morrison
Bryan used his educated feet early on to take down Riley. Dropkick from Morrison, who tagged in, got a two-count. Riley took over on offense and did some cheating after tagging out to Miz. Miz choked Morrison on the bottom rope. Riley certainly has the size WWE likes. He kicked away at Morrison in the corner. Sit-down bodylsam followed that for a near-fall. Corner clothesline from The Miz. Morrison tried to dive over Miz to make the tag, and then he rolled under Miz’s clothesline. He kicked Miz off of him to make the hot tag. Bryan kicked Riley off the apron, then a German suplex. Miz pushed Bryan into Morrison, who was knocked off the apron. That led to a Skull-Crushing Finale for the three-count.

Winners: Miz and Riley, at 5:06. Pretty fun match. I like all of these guys.

Miz attacked Bryan after the match, and Morrison tackled Miz out of the ring after coming to Bryan’s aid. Bryan dove through the ropes and onto Morrison and Miz. Bryan went after Miz with forearms and Morrison tried to pry him off. Bryan gave him a forearm and the two of them started a melee. Bryan tossed Morrison into the timekeeper’s pit, then Miz and Bryan went at it again. Morrison came back just as the GM e-mailed Cole. This Sunday, at Hell in a Cell, for the first-time ever, Daniel Bryan defends the U.S. Title against Morrison AND The Miz. It’ll be in a match just invented by the GM- a Triple-Threat, Submissions count anywhere match. Crowd didn’t exactly pop for that.

-The babyface Divas were walking backstage…they walked right by the heel Divas. A battle royal to determine the #1 Contender for the Divas Title is next.

[Commercial Break]

-The announcers plugged Nickelback’s tour info, probably in conjunction with WWE using their song as the Raw theme.

(2) Divas Battle Royal- #1 Contender for the Divas Title Match
No entrances for any Diva, but LayCool did come out before the match. Apparently none of the Smackdown Divas are eligible to be #1 Contender? Lots of nondescript action to start as LayCool joined the commentary team. Tamina put Melina on her back and tossed her at :43 seconds in. Gail Kim and Tamina fought on the apron but neither was tossed. Natalya and one of the Bellas tried to eliminate Jillian. Kim was hung up on the top rope by Tamina, then thrown out 1:34 in. Tamina got Eve on her shoulders, but Eve pulled Tamina out at 1:56. The worst noggin knocker between Alicia Fox and Jillian ensued, courtesy of the Bellas. The Bellas went out at 2:40. Down to Eve, Maryse Jillian, Natalya, Alicia. Maryse out at 3:00. Eve a few seconds after. Jillian and Fox vs. Natalya at this point. Double suplex on the Hart relative. They tried to send her over the top, but she landed on the apron. Jillian turned on Fox, but Fox eliminated her at 3:47. Fox realized Natalya was still in and tried to push her out with her foot to no avail. Nattie slapped Fox and flipped her over her head to win.

Winner: Natalya, at 4:16. Bowling-shoe ugly.

-They showed all the media appearances John Cena has made lately to plug his movie.

-Tonight, on the Cutting Edge…the anonymous General Manager.

[Commercial Break]

-Ted DiBiase and Maryse were backstage. Maryse was complaining about Eve costing her the Battle Royal, but DiBiase complained about Maryse costing him the tag match last week. There was a knock on their locker room door, but when DiBiase opened it, no one was there. There was a note on the ground. It said, “next week, you will be mine.” DiBiase looked frustrated to end the segment.

-Sheamus came out for a match and got the mic. He told an Irish parable, and finished by saying he’d cut off his own hand to win the WWE Title. Sheamus once again brought up Triple H, saying Orton should go talk to Hunter, since Sheamus ended his career with his own bare hands. He made an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. They went to commercial before anyone accepted the challenge.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Sheamus vs. The Great Khali
During Khali’s entrance, Cole weirdly mentioned Mick Foley’s next book, even by name, and said Foley has some stories in it from his time in WWE. Khali backed Sheamus into the corner and slapped him in the chest. The fight went to the outside, and Sheamus used anything and everything at his disposal, including the top of the announce table and a few padded chairs from the desk. The chairs were enough to draw the DQ.

Winner: Khali, via DQ, at 1:04.

Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick and connected on the outside. Then he gave him one to the head as Khali was on his knees.

-Next is the Cutting Edge, with the Raw GM.

[Commercial Break]

-Edge came out for his interview segment. The podium (and the laptop) was in the ring. Edge said he appreciated the GM appearing as guest, despite their acrimony. The identity will be kept secret, as the computer will have a voice that will transmit the GM’s words. “Why are you such a spineless coward?” was Edge’s first question. “Why are you such a moron?” replied the modulated GM. He said if people knew who he really was, it would change everything. Edge said he thought it was Steve Austin, or The Rock, or Shawn Michaels, or Bob Barker, or even Lindsay Lohan, based on his decision-making. Edge called the GM a big, fat liar. “Why do you have to hate, yo?” asked the GM. He asked Edge why he despised him so. Edge turned the same question on the GM. He said they’ve gone from Steve Austin stunning Mr. McMahon on Raw to Edge arguing with a computer. Edge threatened to leave and ask Chris Jericho who the GM is. The GM said Jericho was bluffing and he can’t trace the computer. The GM did have news on who Edge’s opponent is tonight. It’s Edge vs. John Cena. And it’s next.

[Commercial Break]

(4) Edge vs. John Cena
Nexus was shown watching this match on a monitor backstage. The men fought in the corner, and Edge landed a right hand. He stomped away at a seated Cena in said corner. Drop toe-hold by Cena, but Edge countered the STF. Baseball slide on Cena, who was on the outside. Edge whipped Cena into the ring steps. Back in the ring, Cena got Edge up for the AA, but Edge got out and got a two-count. Edge continued the assault, but Cena fought back with right hands. Flying shoulder tackle found the mark, but a second one missed as Edge ducked low. Hard whip into the buckle by Edge. Suplex by Cena. AA countered into a nice Edgecution for two. Crowd alternated Edge and Cena chants. Throwback by Cena as he tried to come back. Edge slipped off the top rope, where Cena had placed him. Cena missed a charge in the corner and Edge speared him. Cena’s right foot dangled under the bottom rope, but referee Chad Patton missed it and awarded Edge the victory.

Winner: Edge, at 6:57.

The GM had something to say about it however…he said Cena’s foot was under the bottom rope and that the match would be re-started.

Edge went for another spear, but Cena avoided it and locked in the STF. Edge had no choice but to tap.

Winner: Cena, about 7:57. They’re certainly setting up a GM vs. Edge feud. And since the GM is talking, I guess we can rule out Cole (unless he has a surrogate).

Edge looked on the verge of a breakdown after the match. He walked over to the computer, who spoke to him. He said Edge lost fair and square and told Edge not to look at him like that. “Just walk away,” said the voice. Edge got a crazed look in his eyes. “You’ve got the crazy eyes,” said the GM. Edge came from behind and knocked over the podium. “Stop him Cole” said the voice. Edge took a chair to the computer and tore it in half, pounding on it with his fists.

-Still to come, Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole and Lawler talked about what happened moments ago, and Lawler said “I’ve heard of computers crashing, but this was ridiculous!” They then showed Edge’s attack on the computer.

(5) Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel vs. Evan Bourne & Mark Henry
Bourne bumped around for Nexus early, but Bourne avoided a flying forearm then sent a knee to Slater’s face. Henry tagged in and unloaded on Gabriel. He flattened Slater for good measure. Gabriel was pressed over his head, then dumped in the face corner. He readied for a tag to Bourne as the rest of Nexus yelled from the outside. Slater chop-blocked Henry and Gabriel took Bourne off the top rope. He went to the top himself and missed the 450 splash. Bourne headed to the top again and connected with Air Bourne. He went for a cover, but Slater came in and pushed Bourne, reversing the pinfall and putting Gabriel on top. He got the three.

Winners: Slater and Gabriel, at 3:17. They could’ve put Slater and Gabriel over a little stronger here.

Nexus attacked Henry on the outside, then Bourne inside the ring after the match. Gabriel landed the 450 splash on Bourne. Wade Barrett called for a mic and reminded people they’re either Nexus or against them. He said after Hell in a Cell, Cena will no longer be against them. He did say they didn’t need Cena, but he’ll serve a purpose for the group: taking them to the next level and helping them demoralize WWE. David Otunga got the mic and said they’re invading Smackdown this Friday, but unlike Raw, they’re giving those Superstars a fair warning. Michael Tarver took the mic and said they are the bad news, since no one can stop them.

-“Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre were walking backstage. They face the Hart Dynasty next.

[Commercial Break]

-Johnny Knoxville will be the special guest star of Raw next week.

(6) The Hart Dynasty vs. “Dashing” Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre- Unified WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Cole apologized for some of the things he said about the Harts last week when they were on commentary, but stuck to his guns by saying they were boring. Roll-up by Tyson Kidd for a two-count, but Rhodes landed the Beautiful Disaster springboard kick. Frequent tags by the heels, including an impressive clothesline from McIntyre. Kidd avoided a suplex and both men were down. They both ended up making tags and David Hart Smith cleaned house. High knee by Smith on Rhodes. Corner clothesline, then he set up for a powerslam. Rhodes backed out but Smith hit a back suplex, and the pin was broken up by McInytre. Mac was thrown out of the ring and Smith set up for the Hart Attack. Mac pushed Kidd off the top rope, and he landed awkwardly in the back of Smith. Rhodes then hit Cross Rhodes on Smith for the win.

Winners: McIntyre and Rhodes, at 3:15. Smith looked nice and crisp in the short time he was in there. Finishing sequence didn’t look great though.

Smith was fuming after the match, asking Kidd why he hit him in the back. He angrily walked to the back as Natalya stayed with Kidd at ringside.

-Jericho and Orton were both walking backstage, in a split screen. That match is next.

[Commercial Break]

-“Sacrifice” by Atom Smash was plugged as the Hell in a Cell theme.

-John Cena was sitting in the locker room when R-Truth came up to him. Truth said that no matter what happens on Sunday, he’s always got Cena’s back. Cena told him not to worry about Sunday, because he’s the guy they go to with everything on the line. Truth told Cena to be careful. Cena said he is careful, but Truth said he’s one of the reckless people he knows. Cena said he’d be on the premiere of Smackdown this Friday night, along with Nexus.

-Lawler and Cole previewed Hell in a Cell.

-Chris Jericho came out for his match. He said he’ll be the #1 Contender after tonight’s match, and go on to win the WWE Championship. He gave Orton some props but said he isn’t scare of Orton. He talked about Orton’s snake-like tendencies. Jericho called himself the Viper killer and said he’d cut the head off the serpent tonight. He listed off a bunch of big-name wrestlers he has beaten, and they went to break with him reciting the list.

[Commercial Break]

-They returned with Jericho listing off wrestlers he has beaten. Making the list: Villanos, Juventud Guerrera, Sting, Ric Flair, Goldberg, Booker T, Stevie Ray, Scott Norton, Buff Bagwell, Flash Flanagan, Flash Funk, Diesel, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Razor Ramon, American Starship Eagle, and others. I’m sure someone will have a more complete list out there.

(7) Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton
Jericho hammered at Orton in the corner, then whipped him to the opposite corner. Orton exploded out with a clothesline. Orton went to the outside and draped Jericho over the apron to deliver a beating. Uppercut from Orton, then more punches to Jericho in the corner. Jericho came back with a kick to the chest. Orton whipped Jericho into the ropes, but Jericho held on. That proved to be not-so-smart, as Orton just clotheslined him over the top. Jericho then whipped Orton into the barricade on the outside as they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Back with Orton clotheslining Jericho down inside the ring. As Orton applied the Garvin Stomp, Sheamus walked out to the stage to get a closer look at the action. Jericho took over and choked Orton on the bottom rope. Both men got to a vertical base and exchanged punches. RKO was countered into a backslide for two. Into a rear chinlock by Jericho for two. Dropkick by Jericho for a near-fall. Knee-drop found the mark, and Cole snuck in another Foley mention, RE: Hell in a Cell vs. The Undertaker. Back suplex by Orton and both men were down. Orton’s comeback was stopped by a bulldog. Back-breaker off a missed Lionsault. RKO was shoved away by Jericho, who hit the Lionsault for two. Orton came back and tried his DDT, but Jericho countered into the Walls of Jericho. Orton slithered under Jericho and kicked him off and to ringside. Orton caught him coming in with his DDT. He lined up for the RKO, but Sheamus ran in for the DQ.

Winner: Orton, via DQ, at 13:15.

For his troubles, Sheamus got a rope-assisted DDT. He set up for a punt on Sheamus, but Jericho interrupted it with a Codebreaker. Jericho went to ringside and retrieved a steel chair. He wielded it with bad intentions, but he missed and Orton RKO’d him. Some in the front row were chanting for a punt, and he went into the corner for it. He ran across the ring and kicked Jericho right in the head. Sheamus saw the damage brought about by Orton and looked a little worried. The bloodthirsty fans chanted for an RKO. They finally played Orton’s music and replayed the punt. Medics came to ringside to put Jericho in a neck-brace and cart him off on a stretcher. Orton looked over the damage he caused as the show ended.

Well, that's one way to write Jericho off television for awhile. (And make his fans even less likely to watch RAW then they already are-- it's not like he's exactly been strongly booked lately).

Submissions-count-anywhere? Really? Why not triple-threat, falls-count-anywhere?

Edge channelling the Naitch X 2 there...feuding with an inanimate object, then dropping an elbow on it.

A robot voice telling him "You've got the crazy eyes" = priceless.

Jericho claimed to have pinned "Kevin Nash, Disel, Oz, Scott Hall AND Razor Ramon." A nice homage to the legendary List Of 1004 Moves promo with the DVD out tomorrow.

Please don't break up the Harts... David Hart Smith, look what happened to Shad Gaspard! (what DID happen to big Shad anyway??)

Mick Foley was mentioned on RAW more tonight than he has been in the last month of iMPACT! collected. It's the reverse of when Schiavone insulted him while revealing he won the WWF Title.

I'm too much of a mark for the classics, so I'd say Edge smashing the RAW GM laptop and beating it up is still < Ric Flair wrestling the WCW Magazine, but it's damn close.

Almost as funny to me as Edge vs. laptop was the sight of little Daniel Bryan tossing John Morrison around ringside.

If I were Justin Gabriel's internist, I'd be making down payments on beach houses and yachts. Every time that guy shows up on TV, he hits a 450 splash, and every time he does, he hurts his abdomen. Cha-ching!

The Divas battle royal was NXT GONG worthy. Melina's stock sure dropped in record time. Chucked out first like yesterday's garbage. And the rest of the match was a clinic of watching the Divas eliminate themselves from the match.

Cole was rather subdued tonight. I didn't like it. He was a little more "himself" - his new self, anyway - during the Harts when he quipped that Natalya was the only winner, the Harts are boring on commentary, and David Hart Smith is terrible. All true. Hopefully Cole is back to form on NXT tomorrow, even if the gong doesn't appear on the show.

And Jericho's gone for the foreseeable future. Fozzy tour. Without Jericho, how will we know who's A STUPID MAN?!

I got the impression that Melina wasn't supposed to be tossed quite the early. No idea if she was supposed to win, but it looked like she lost her footing on the apron and was *supposed* to come back into the ring.

Well, it was fun. Goodbye, Chris Jericho 2.0. At the very least, you went out on one of your funniest segments in years, with a great homage to the old Man of 1004 Holds promo. I especially loved him naming off "Villano I, II, III, IV, and V" and "Kevin Nash, Diesel, Oz". I really wish they had discovered this kind of subtle humor with Jericho BEFORE they let his contract expire.

So the Raw GM is GLaDOS from Portal? I can't say I saw that coming.

What's the point of tacking Morrison onto the U.S. title match? Would it really be so bad if he stayed home for a PPV?

Breaking up the Harts? That sounds like it'll go very well. What do you think, Shad and JTG?

Hearing Mick Foley get mentioned AND hearing his book get a full plug is just...surreal these days.

I think the point was to be funny, not especially accurate. (Villano II was dead before Chris Jericho started his career.) Random mentions of Chris Benoit's name are not funny.

cubs' list actually got RT by Jericho. nifty.

Would've liked to have heard The Heavenly Bodies on the list. Oh well.

I wonder if anyone at the TV taping got the names mentioned during the commercial.

I hope at some point he got his win back from Konnan, after dropping the TV title, which led to the infamous (and beloved) CRZ "Fuck you, Kevin Nash" rant. (listen to CRZ on JVTW for more info)

Wait...so now that the 1004 holds are finally on dvd, he made another list and we have to get youtube copies of that? ARGH :)
The best thing on the list is that there are some reeaally random ones in there.

Because they could play up how Bryan is a submission expert and has the advantage, and they can do all sorts of fun crazy stuff on the outside. (even though Bryan really has no advantage cos the 3rd guy can always kick his face in)

And as Jericho himself pointed out, you don't need to be booked strong as long as you look strong/good.
And he kept doing that.
At least they have some sort of story ready IF he returns.
Heel: Getting revenge on Orton.
Face: Big time face pop as he returns from a serious injury!

I don't understand why Chris didn't add his win over WCW Champ David Arquette to his list?

Looking forward to this RAW on my DVR.

I caught Edge/Cena in between the Packers/Bears' game, so when Edge destroyed the computer, I decided that was going to be as good as it gets. Having read the spoilers, there was no mention of Jericho making another list, damn IWC nerds can't do anything right. I would have kept watching for that. I just can't believe we are getting another PPV this Sunday, does Linda need this much cash before the general election?
