Nobody started a thread yet?

This show was 100% awesome.

Nice pilot episode, introducing everybody, and giving just enough back story to the main guys to care about them. This looks like it's going to be a huge hit.

Anybody else see it? Or was everybody glued to Night Of Champions?

It was real good. The Beer Baron episode of The Simpsons done live action. When is Rex Banner showing up?

"To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems!"

It's also a great show if you love old timey dialogue:

"What kind of sucker pays three clams for a drink that ain't worth 15 cents?"

"You'd pay 12 clams for a piece of cooze that ain't worth nothin'!"

"You're a pip!"

"Now, you're on the trolley!"

I'm still so bitter about Carnivale (& Rome, to a lesser degree), that I'm not gonna want to be drawn into anything that HBO is going to decide is too expensive to produce & cancel.

I thought it was pretty good, but the problem is that the general topic has been done so many times. How are they going to be able to keep it all from being one big drinking game of "Sopranos did it.", "Which episode of the Untouchables was that?", "Goodfellas *&* Godfather both did it.", "The Family Guy parody of the Godfather did it.", ... You could say the same kind of thing about Deadwood, & they managed well -- it's not insurmountable, but that's gonna be tough.

No worries on that front. HBO already renewed it for season two.

They are doing this off of historical events, so that helps. Anything that has midget boxing and a good representation of Arnold Rothstein in its premiere episode is off to a good start.

I don't think I'll ever get over the cancellation of Deadwood. That REALLY pissed me off.

This was really great. Aside from the pro-gangster perspective, this really had a much different feel than Sopranos/Goodfellas/Casino, and it's set in a time period in NY of which I'm particularly fond.

And I think that there will be a decent body count. Sweet Mary, that was graphic.

Empire has already been renewed.

Folks I was watching with at work had a hard time keeping track of characters. Definitely worth 2 viewings to get the plot down.
